IM BACK . . .

Wednesday, March 12, 2014

I have not been on SP for quite sometime. The last few months I have refocused and managed to lose 35lbs. I am finally heading in the right direction with my weight. My personal life in a mess right now but the one thing I can truly control is my weight. Done with excuses and have finally taken steps that are progressing me towards my goals.

Week 3 - Action Plan for Jan 17 - 23, 2011

Monday, January 17, 2011

Beginning week three down 10 pounds and overall I am happy with my progress. There have been some hits and misses. Even with my mishaps I feel strongly that I am moving in the direction that I need to be. Still highly motivated to keep moving. I am not only working on the physical but on the mental and spiritual. Working on the whole me has effected how I feel about losing the weight. I feel strongly that this will be the last time I re-lose this weight.

Here is my plan for this week. Working out wise pretty much the same as last week. What I am noticing is that I start the week very strong and about Thursday I start to slack off. One of these reasons is that 24 does not offer many classes Friday - Sunday. I enjoy the classes and find it much easier to get through my hours while in the class environment. So one of my goals this week is to push myself in the gym outside of the classes.

I also am still struggling with running. I know that this is a get tool in weight loss, over all health, and a key component in getting through boot camp. I can not avoid it. I am going to have to force myself to get through the c25k. No excuses this week on the running must do it. I had downloaded a itunes c25k pod cast but have yet to use it. Lets see if that helps to motivate me to finish.

On the food side I am definitely eating over all much healthier. There was about three meals this week where I was not on the healthy side. But much better than the week before. I still need to eat more frequently. I am going to prep at least two days worth of food in advance in insure that I have no excuses.

OK - I must ask - for the list of activities, are those your class options at the gym that you like or are you doing each of those activities every day?

Congrats on your 10 pound loss and for making smart, healthy food choices along the way!

I'm also starting a running program, using the Spark 5k training instead of c25k.

I Hate Math but it does have its usage . . .

Friday, January 14, 2011

So my goal is to lose 65 lb, 1 lb = 3500 calories that are needed to be burned. Let the math begin.

65lb x 3500 = 227,500 calories needed to burn . . . &#$@!

I want to lose the weight in 3 months
227,000/3 = 75,833

There are four weeks in a month
75,833/4 = 18,958

I am working out six days a week
18,958/6 = 3159

My daily burn goal is 3159. I am going to raise it to 3500 that I have to burn before I will leave the gym. I also wear a pedometer an aim to hit over 10,00 steps every day.

It helps me to have goal numbers that I can quantify with my heart rate monitor and pedometer. I do not like to rely on the machines for my calorie count or just being on the machine for X amount of time.

This in addition to keeping accurate count of my calories should help me to reach my goal in the time frame that I set for myself.

Muscle mass in not an issue I am freakishly strong. The number of calories that I need to burn does not scare me. I am an ex-gymnast, cheerleader and use to work out 6 hours a day. With coaching you are constantly moving and lifting athletes. That is part of my problem. My body was use to such a high level of activity.

Some counter math to add into your equations before you get into trouble:)

The average ideal weight for a 5'7" 30 year old woman is 135 lbs.
Assuming 67 lbs overweight (202), the calories from food required per day to maintain this weight while undergoing heavy levels of exercise is 2864.5.

If this same woman cuts her caloric intake to just 1400 daily, she will have shaved off 1464.5 daily and should expect to lose about 3 pounds a week by shaving 10251.5 calories weekly out of her diet. So if this woman were after what you are suggesting, she would only need to exercise 8706.5 calories off a week to complete your weekly goal, less than half of the figure you're scaring yourself with.

That said, you reeeeally don't want to burn this much. The body has safeguards against this sort of activity and you will end up losing muscle mass and bone mass long before you lose fat when you work this hard. You're talking about daily about what a professional sumo wrestler does in a day (1400), and about what an elite (world competitive) marathoner burns in an hour of nonstop running.... that's craaaaaaazy high.

If you're setting the goal in that time frame for service readiness, you may want to consider relying on the alternate test for body fat, which would mean moderately high caloric burn and a 6 day a week strength training to raise lean muscle mass (which burns calories all by itself and eats fat alive). Not only would that achieve what you're after, you'll look a whole lot better and you won't have to work as hard in the long run because you'll be developing your body to want to release carbs, rather than just cannibalizing your reserves like an intense cardio/light strength routine would.

How do you burn that much at the gym? I did 30 minutes on the treadmill and only burned 335!

what is 40 x 3500? Numbers are useful because they are constant. You have lofty goals! Do you have a lot time to be active? Looking for tips;) Mary

I loved Zumba too back when I was going to the gym for my workouts. Killer exercise and you walk out feeling -worked-. I face the same problem you do with scrambling to fill my caloric deficit. While obviously getting the whole routine is important, if you find yourself precariously low and want to bump it up, here's a great site with lists of "nutritionally sound foods at the end of the day" that might inspire you with some ideas on how to cover that last little stretch...

She Zumbaed her clothes off . . . literally!!!

Friday, January 07, 2011

If there is one reason I love the gym it is for the great people watching; it is better than the airport.

So I am taking my Zumba class. Dancing away doing my thing and half way through a girl comes in and plants her butt about two feet in front of me. Plenty of space but okay, sure why not. Probably has to do with the fact I have the only two guys in the class behind me.

She is wearing an off the shoulders lacy shirt that is held together with ties, (yeah you can already see where this is going) and low riding tight grey capris. Ms. Capris does not feel the need to follow along with the dances because this class has now become her own private disco.

As she is doing her thing her pants keep falling down. She is not wearing underwear. I know this because I see her ass, her actual ass half a dozen times. As if she is not drawing enough attention to herself with her dancing, this is in between her top coming off. Yup thats right literally coming off. Apparently Ms. Capris does not know how to tie a knot. But not to worry her sting bikini top is covering her nipples. emoticon

When we started our cool down her dances became so overly sexual that I had to leave the class to hide my laughter. WOW attention issues. I love the gym. I hope to see Ms Capris again real soon. emoticon

absolutely hilarious.....one has to wonder what is going through someone's mind when they do something so overtly sexual...I would have had to leave, too.....to keep from laughing the whole time. Where was the instructor during this sex show......? emoticon

Someone asked my daughter recently why cheerleaders wear such tiny, tight outfits and she said "because they will literally fall off otherwise."
Not the case with Miss Zumba Exhibitionist! I'd quietly make a comment to the instructor that there was a... distraction... and let her deal with the situation.
someimes ya gotta wonder if people are playing with a full deck... emoticon

I saw some one like that but it was on an elliptical machine and it looked like she was trying to make love to the machine. Guess she did not know how silly she looked doing that, she did keep her cloths on though so I did not see things like you did. emoticon emoticon emoticon

This was at the base gym too!!!

OMG that is so funny. I love when people go the the gym to try and pick up guys. People who go to the gym for a serious workout don't wear string bikinis and ties up shirts...Very entertaining.
