Well, I had a good day today. After getting the kids off to school I took hubby to the Rec Center with me. I got him an appt with the personal trainer I saw on Monday. Hubby has problems with his knees and lower back and he keeps saying he wants to "do something" to strengthen these areas and be able to run a 5k without blowing out his knees. In high school, he ran Cross Country. So while he met with the trainer, I hit the Treadmill for 20 min (.75 miles) and the stationary bike for 15 min (3.1 miles) and did some work on the weighted machines...I don't know what they are called yet.. lol
then we stopped at a family diner for a nutritional type breakfast and came home so hubby could go to work. I've done descent on the food department - I'm probably still over allowance, but not as bad as usual!
Tomorrow, I plan to leave the house about 7:30am after everyone is out of the house and head to the Rec Center. I'm pretty sure I won't get there on the weekend, so I need to go tomorrow. I'll spend about an hour, probably between tread mill and bike... maybe something else, too... we'll see...
We have a dinner to go to tomorrow night, so I'm going to try to really watch what I eat during the day. I'm having a 'crusted chicken' for dinner...we'll see what that is! lol

Trying to figure out what to name this blog entry.... Maybe it should have said "first visit to doc in a year - she's not happy"... lol
The good news! blood pressure was 116/78. a lot of times it's around 125/80 or something like that... so, that is good.
The 'not bad' news... I've lost 4 lbs in the last year. should be more, but we'll work on that.
the bad news... my A1C=9.1 She wants it at 7.0 or less. It was at 7.4 in Feb 2011 and 8.1 in June 2011. 9.5 in Oct 2011 (my last visit) So it's come down since my last visit but it's not where it should be.
So... What I need to do:
My BP is okay, so I don't have to do much there as other things will keep that in check.
My weight - this is the biggest thing because I know that if I can bring down my weight, everything else (bp and a1c) will fall into place. I have a goal. I want to lose 59 lbs by Sept 18 2013, to get to what I weighed when I got married 20 years ago. I wasn't skinny, but I was probably a little heavier than average... but so much better than where I am now. So I have to lose about 1.5 lbs per week (1.4 and change) to get to my goal.
A1C needs to be under 7.0
How am I going to achieve these goals?
I have to do better at what I eat (less crap, more nutrition)
Meet with a dietician or nutritionist
drink more water
*exercise machines/treadmills at Rec Center
Well, there it is... the good, the bad, and the ugly.
Now I just have to develop a plan to get there...
Wish me luck - and say a prayer if you're so inclined to do so...

Well, I tried a new recipe tonight. Zucchini Skillet. it was on one of those free recipe cards you can get in the grocery store. (Kroger). It was pretty good. I entered it into the recipes here on SP and got the nutrition information for it... not bad, not totally good... but It was about 365 calories per serving... We'll see how that fit in with my food logs tonight! lol

Start the clock! Thanks to my cousin, MIPALADY23, and another blog I read today (Tracynotgivinup), I have finally started to set some goals. They are not as "lofty" as MIPALADY23, but I will get there!
I think part of the reason I've had a problem with sitting down and making the goals is two-fold. One, I want to make them realistic. And two, I'm afraid of failure. Especially when I put them out here on SparkPeople for everyone to see!
MIPALADY23 is so organized in her thoughts and goals, and she is constantly working toward and reaching her goals...TRACYNOTGIVINUP set goals a little over a year ago that are very close to my ultimate goals. Lose weight, get a healthier, more fit body, and eat healthy.
Tomorrow, my husband and I will celebrate our 19th wedding anniversary. Not sure if 'celebrate' is the word - he's working 9-5, then he has an association meeting 7:30-9:30pm.. but we'll get around to dinner or something soon... maybe. Anyway, when we were married 19 years ago, I weighed about 165lbs. That is my first 'long-term' weight goal. I want to be at 165lbs for our 20th wedding anniversary. I have 52 lbs to lose in 12 months. just over 4 lbs per month. I think that is more than reasonable! My ultimate goal would be in the 125-135 range. But we will see.
Now, I guess I need to figure out HOW I am going to reach these goals, right? Well, I'm going in baby steps.
*Log my exercise daily - run the reports within SparkPeople weekly. Hopefully the visual graphs will help keep me on track.
*Log my nutrition (or non-nutrition in reality!) This will also be a visual. Having a better idea of the 'value' of what I eat as it relates to calories, carbs, fat, etc.
*Learn to use the SP videos - they are there for a reason - to help - and with fall/winter coming to Michigan, I won't have too many days to be able to walk outside.
*Utilize the Leslie Sansone walking DVD's that I OWN! they are doing me no good whatsoever, sitting on the shelf, still in their shrink wrap!
*Stay active, off the couch, and DON'T SIT AT THE COMPUTER ALL DAY!
*Start gathering AND USING more smoothie recipes (any suggestions for this 'anti-green' food person???)
*Start looking for good sounding recipes that are healthier, easy to make, that the whole family will eat.
*Watch food labels - try to reduce the processed foods that we eat
*reduce sugar and salt intake
*Walk M, W, and Friday every week, either outside or inside using the DVD's mentioned above. I am signed up for the 5K Virtual Walk in late October
*Follow the 5k plan designed for training for the 5k walk
*Stay active, off the couch, and don't sit in front of the computer all day!!
Longer term goals that will need more planning are:
*Start going to the Rec Center - cheaper if we get a membership...
*Plan to walk in 2-5 5k's in 2013. We always walk the one in September for the Cancer Center that took care of my father-in-law. I want to find 1-4 more that are for "good causes" and local that I can walk in.
So, there they are - for everyone to see. Please don't let my perfectionism, laziness, and fear of failure get in my way!

Well, I didn't break an hour, but I DID beat my time last year. Last year I walked the 5k in 1 hr 3 min 23.2 seconds... today I was 1 hr 2 min 14 seconds! A whole minute and 9 seconds faster! lol but, that's okay! I'm going to try to keep going and keep walking so that next year, I am better still!!!
