The Keys of Life

Thursday, June 03, 2010

We are in control of our lives. Only us. We can give that control over to other things and other people and do so many times a day. When we allow ourselves to become angry, we have given control of our lives to whatever made us angry. Food does not control us, we give control over to the food. If we let our minds dwell on things that consumes our day and robs us of our productivity then we have a problem. We need to take stock of what rules our day. Then we need to decide if that is really what we want in our lives. If friends bring us down, we can do better without them, move on! We don't need to apologize to others for taking back control either. Our lives are ours alone to run. Be careful who you allow access to the keys.

Every Idle Word

Wednesday, June 02, 2010

We are so careless with our words. We say things we really don't mean.We wound with our words and we tear others down with them. Words are far more powerful than we think they are. The Bible says that we will be judged by every idle word that comes out of our mouths. Life and death are in the power of the tongue. Out of what is in our hearts our mouth speaks. What are we allowing a place in our hearts?
The Bible also says that our words should be seasoned as they were, with salt. Our words should bring grace to the hearer. Grace is unmerited favor. Gentle words can turn away wrath.
Jesus was our example, fully God and fully human. It is He who will judge us. He knows how hard it is to control ourselves. He was tempted in ALL way just as we are. Let us think twice before opening our mouths today.

I try to remember that I rarely wish I had said something I didn't- but many, many times I am sorry for what came out of my mouth!

"When there are many words, transgression is unavoidable."Prov 10:19

Thanks for the reminder!

AMEN--and, I will add that we should guard our ears as well--sometime we hear something different than what was truly said (if we have a spirit of offense)!! Miscommunication can kill peolpe these days--figurativly and literally!!

What's In a Name?

Tuesday, June 01, 2010

W e tend to treat names rather casually in my opinion. We name our children because of family, what's popular or what the trend is for that period of time. Rarely do we take into consideration the meaning of the name itself.
In Bible times a name was very important. If you look at the meanings of a name sometimes there is a whole nother meaning to a set of verses. This includes the meaning of the names of the towns. Abraham had his name changed from Abram to signify a work of God in his life. Or the name chosen had something to do with the circumstances surrounding the birth of the child like the tribes of Israel. Who do you know that does this today?
My husband got on some web site that gave an explanation into the consequences, so to speak, of our names. The characteristics associated with the names of our family were uncannily right on. I had asked him what our youngest son's name meant and he went to work to find out. Try it. You may be very surprised to find out what your name means to you in more ways than just to identify you :)

Yes, I have thought of the meaning of names...in biblical times and STILL in some religions/countries, the NAME chosen for a child is HIGHLY important.
Though there is less thought put into names these days, I truly believe God ordaines our destiny--my name means: brave, noble; eternal ruler; my God is a vow(Hebrew).
I think that we can grow into or grow out of our names and circumstances. Whichever is best to promote the Will of God...AMEN!!

What an excellent and timely post. You are right on when you say that we do not know what our names mean. Thanks for sharing the website information.

Names are very interesting. I like to look up the Hebrew meaning. Mine is "noble lily".

Thanks To All Who Have Served.

Monday, May 31, 2010

Thank you to all who have so bravely and unselfishly served our country in the military. Know that the sacrifices made by you and your families is so very much appreciated. We have what we have in this country in a large part due to your sacrifices. It is not forgotten and sadly only remembered on days like this, but know that you are often in my thoughts and on my mind. May this be a day that you receive the recognition you so rightly deserve! For those who have died, we cannot thank you enough. And though you cannot hear our thanks I give it anyway. Let us never forget.

You expressed my feeling beautifully. Today, at the traveling VW wall, I watched people leaving poppies, bouquets, letters, pictures and it dawned on me that many people can not get to the wall in Washington. Thanks to the people that bring the wall to us so we can pay our respect and in some cases mourn those we lost.

Dream a Dream

Saturday, May 29, 2010

What happens when we sleep? Occasionally we will dream. We many times will discount the strange happenings in our dreams to an overactive imagination and indeed they may be just that. But what if they are more than that sometimes? Would we give them any importance? I look through the Bible and see many instances where people were warned in dreams or told marvelous things in dreams. What if they had missed the significance of those things? Joseph was told in a dream that the child Mary was carrying was the Christ. What if he had discounted it?
I pray many times for my youngest child that will not find himself sitting in a church very often. I sometimes pray that if God cannot get his attention any other way to do so when he is asleep. My daughter the same. She was in an abusive relationship, but finally had some distance between her and the abuser. I prayed and God gave her the strength to leave him because of a dream, or should I say nightmare.
I think we can ask God to use our dreams and the dreams of others. I think sometimes He tries to get our attention in our dreams, but we are not listening. Hmmm interesting to think about anyway :)

Ha, I just wish I had dreams. Nothing anymore, not even the start of one. Guess I am not getting a good sound sleep.
