Not Afraid

Monday, October 10, 2011

There are a ton of words in the English language that describe fear. Anyone who has been debilitated by fear knows the pounding heart, the sweating palms and how paralyzing it can be. The Bible tells us that the fearul will not be in heaven. It kind of upset me when I read that until I began to study it. Fear truly is a lack of faith. Without faith it is impossible to please God, impossible. We are to take every though captive to the obedience of Christ. I have had instances in my life where thoughts just went rapid fire through my brain at an unbelievable speed. These were not good thoughts either, mind you. When I realised it, I put a stop to it, just by recognizing it. When we truly believe that greater is He who is with us than he who is against us, it gives us confidence. God never leaves us or forsakes us. If we show fear in the face of the enemy, our defeat is certain. We are not powerless. We have the armor of God and need to learn how to use it. Then look and see that Jesus is our armor. He is our salvation, our righteousness, out peace, our shield. He is the truth. All we need to defeat the enemy is in Jesus Christ. Fear not for He is with you. He will fight for you. For this reason was the Son of God manifest, to destroy the works of the evil one. This includes fear.

Trip to Chama

Sunday, October 09, 2011

Oh my wonderful God! That was the most beautiful trip I have ever taken! We hit the changing of the trees just perfectly and the hills were ablaze with the most beautiful blanket of yellow I have ever seen. If you took a picture, you only got one tenth of what was before your eyes. Then halfway through it, it began to snow. Produced too many clouds to see much on the second half so we are planning a second trip to see the Chama end of things another time. we woke up to four inches of fresh we snaow in the morning. Transformed the whole town's look as snow will do. The people were wonderful. I was overwhelmed by the magnificence of my God and His creation.
I must share a story that will forever make me laugh when I think of Chama. A table of four ate at the restaurant that we went to. On the menu for the salad bar was green chili stew. They asked what was green in the stew. The witress did a wonderful job of keeping her composure as she explained that it was more of a stew and it was kind of spicy and that the chili was what was green. They were clueless, but one of them ordered it any way. Later she was looking over his bowl of stew and pointed to a floating pice of green chili and said,"There's some right there." The cook as well as us could not keep from laughing. We were not trying to make them feel bad, it was just impossible not to laugh!
I will try to post some pictures later this week. I cannot download straight to my computer because I do not have enough memory. I must first go to Walmart and get a disc. I will share when I do. What beautiful memories we now have. We intend to ride every train we can find anywhere near us and will be looking soon. If you ever get near New Mexico or Colorado, you should make this a priority. You will not regret it.

It's apparent you are happy you took this trip. It is often too easy for us to stay home making excuses rather than just going and enjoying as you did. I'm eager to see the pictures. i imagine they are of wonderful sights. -- Lou

Away We Go

Wednesday, October 05, 2011

In just a few hours we will be on the road to our first vacation in 28 years. We may find some snow where we are going and I hope it doesn't spoil it for us, but makes it even more beautiful. We are riding a narrow Gauge train and should be seeing the beautiful fall colors. We will see what is there I guess! On the way home we will see Joel Osteen in Albuquerque and catch the end of the balloon fiesta. We get to see our youngest to boot. Quite a trip[ in four days. I have my camera ready and am excited. Neither of us slept well last night. I have been awake since 3:30 he since 5. i should sleep well. I don't think mine is from excitement, but I had no choice about it. Just don't like starting off tired. So I will be gone for several days and you will not hear from me until I return. I hope I just don't eat too much!

Don't Say No

Tuesday, October 04, 2011

The Bible tells us that if we resist Satan he will flee from us. It's pretty simple in most cases. The Bible also tells us that there is no temptation that hasn't been seen before and that with every temptation God will provide the way out. So why are we overtaken by sin? Again it is pretty simple. We walk right in to it and don't put up a fight. In a sense we go into it more than willingly. I guess that's why it's called temptation, huh. Well what if, just what if, that difficult moment took a different turn. What if by not surrendering to the sin we decide to turn our back and walk away? Or just what if we decided to fight instead of giving in? Maybe in that split second we would have discovered exactly what we are here for, what God wanted to use to make us a pillar in the church rather than a pew warmer? Here is my challenge to you. Do not say no to God by saying yes to Satan. Read the back of the book. The future isn't so bright for those who resist God. When we are weak we only need to ask for strength and wisdom and the battle is ours. Fear is the greatest enemy of the church. I have heard it said that there is one fear not for every day of the year contained in the pages of the Bible. Maybe it is time we start hunting them down and reading ad meditating on them every day so that when we are faced with it we will have tools in our belts. Don't say no to God today for what is temporary. Don't sell out for a few minutes of pleasure. Don't trade that which is eternal for something that will mean nothing and yet everything two weeks from now. Don't say no to God.

Want Fries With That?

Monday, October 03, 2011

So many of us want a Burger King kind of relationship with God. When we are hurting or needing peace or just need bailing out of a difficult or uncomfortable place, we call call on God. At other times we hardly know he exists by our actions. We think just showing up on Sunday morning is enough because that is all we are willing to give. I am guilty of this as well. One time in particular stands out. I needed peace so bad and prayed earnestly to get it. As soon as I got it, I skipped out of His presence without so much as a thank you. I stopped short in my tracks when I realized it though. We need to quit looking at God as though he were Santa Claus. It hurts when you have a child who only calls when they need something from you. I have one of those as well. I would much rather have the two hour conversations we once had about absolutely nothing. So let's all take a look at our relationship with God and get honest. Then let's spend a little time just enjoying His presence even if no words are spoken. He's waiting for just such a day.

So true! Usually, when we ask God for something, we expect an answer from Him immediately, but get upset if it's not the answer we wanted. God knows what we need and will answer us accordingly! emoticon
