How do you handle news that is less than perfect? Most of us tend to go into a slight depression I would guess. The Bible tells us that depression is caused by anger. We think we have a right to have things go our way and when they don't we can be like spoiled children. We were not guaranteed a perfect life with all ups and no downs. In fact. the Bible tells us we have an enemy that is out to kill us, steal from us and to destroy us. Sounds pretty serious to me. We are to take every thought captive to the obedience of Christ. Sounds kind of like warfare to me when there are captives involved. If we can be defeated in our thoughts, the battle is won. Is it easy to fight our thoughts? Absolutely not! Is it worth the hard work to guard our minds? You bet it is. We may have to replace those negative thoughts every few seconds. If we will just resist the urge to think the worst of ourselves or the situation, funny thing, but eventually they will leave us alone. We cannot allow ourselves to dwell on anything, but victory. It is ours unless we give up fighting. Being a Christian is an active thing. The Bible also tells us that just because we sit in church and hear the Word week after week doesn't mean we a righteous. We become acceptable by getting off our duffs and entering the fight. Go give him a black eye now and make him wish he hadn't awakened ou from your slumber. Tee-hee!

Thank you, Cindy, for the reminder and encouragement. Last night I felt like giving up being my husband's wife after he messed up the cabinet stuff under the bathroom sink. He just doesn't get it and how important putting things back is. I'll keep fighting the good fight!

Cumbres Toltec Pictures

Tuesday, October 11, 2011

these are the pictures of our recent trip to Chama, NM to ride the Cumbres Toltec scenic railroad. These only show a tenth of the beauty. We just stood in awe of the magnificent wonder and glory of God. We stood with our eyes and our mouths wide opened. We woke up the next day to four inches of wet snow. We are now making plans to ride trains all over the United States. This was a gift from our daughter. She knew we had wanted to do this ever since we got married 28 years ago, yet we had never done it. she finally got tired of waiting on us! What a wonderful trip it was. Hope you enjoy the pictures half as much as we enjoyed our trip. Pictures just can't do it justice.

Wow! I would love to take the train to see all the beautiful scenic wonders! My husband and I did manage to take a couple of cruises lately, but the train sounds wonderful and the photos are great!

Not Afraid

Monday, October 10, 2011

There are a ton of words in the English language that describe fear. Anyone who has been debilitated by fear knows the pounding heart, the sweating palms and how paralyzing it can be. The Bible tells us that the fearul will not be in heaven. It kind of upset me when I read that until I began to study it. Fear truly is a lack of faith. Without faith it is impossible to please God, impossible. We are to take every though captive to the obedience of Christ. I have had instances in my life where thoughts just went rapid fire through my brain at an unbelievable speed. These were not good thoughts either, mind you. When I realised it, I put a stop to it, just by recognizing it. When we truly believe that greater is He who is with us than he who is against us, it gives us confidence. God never leaves us or forsakes us. If we show fear in the face of the enemy, our defeat is certain. We are not powerless. We have the armor of God and need to learn how to use it. Then look and see that Jesus is our armor. He is our salvation, our righteousness, out peace, our shield. He is the truth. All we need to defeat the enemy is in Jesus Christ. Fear not for He is with you. He will fight for you. For this reason was the Son of God manifest, to destroy the works of the evil one. This includes fear.

Trip to Chama

Sunday, October 09, 2011

Oh my wonderful God! That was the most beautiful trip I have ever taken! We hit the changing of the trees just perfectly and the hills were ablaze with the most beautiful blanket of yellow I have ever seen. If you took a picture, you only got one tenth of what was before your eyes. Then halfway through it, it began to snow. Produced too many clouds to see much on the second half so we are planning a second trip to see the Chama end of things another time. we woke up to four inches of fresh we snaow in the morning. Transformed the whole town's look as snow will do. The people were wonderful. I was overwhelmed by the magnificence of my God and His creation.
I must share a story that will forever make me laugh when I think of Chama. A table of four ate at the restaurant that we went to. On the menu for the salad bar was green chili stew. They asked what was green in the stew. The witress did a wonderful job of keeping her composure as she explained that it was more of a stew and it was kind of spicy and that the chili was what was green. They were clueless, but one of them ordered it any way. Later she was looking over his bowl of stew and pointed to a floating pice of green chili and said,"There's some right there." The cook as well as us could not keep from laughing. We were not trying to make them feel bad, it was just impossible not to laugh!
I will try to post some pictures later this week. I cannot download straight to my computer because I do not have enough memory. I must first go to Walmart and get a disc. I will share when I do. What beautiful memories we now have. We intend to ride every train we can find anywhere near us and will be looking soon. If you ever get near New Mexico or Colorado, you should make this a priority. You will not regret it.

It's apparent you are happy you took this trip. It is often too easy for us to stay home making excuses rather than just going and enjoying as you did. I'm eager to see the pictures. i imagine they are of wonderful sights. -- Lou

Away We Go

Wednesday, October 05, 2011

In just a few hours we will be on the road to our first vacation in 28 years. We may find some snow where we are going and I hope it doesn't spoil it for us, but makes it even more beautiful. We are riding a narrow Gauge train and should be seeing the beautiful fall colors. We will see what is there I guess! On the way home we will see Joel Osteen in Albuquerque and catch the end of the balloon fiesta. We get to see our youngest to boot. Quite a trip[ in four days. I have my camera ready and am excited. Neither of us slept well last night. I have been awake since 3:30 he since 5. i should sleep well. I don't think mine is from excitement, but I had no choice about it. Just don't like starting off tired. So I will be gone for several days and you will not hear from me until I return. I hope I just don't eat too much!
