I was just getting ready to do my walking DVD and caught some comments being made about the govenor of Arkansas or Alabama that has made some remarks about if you believe in Christ you are his brother and if not then you are not. On The View they were in an uproar about this. Elizabeth was the only one to stand and defend what he had to say. I applaud them both, Elizabeth and the govenor. Perhaps it could have been said a little differently, but the core of what he said, he strongly believes. We should not expect the unsaved to understand or necessarily like what we have to say. Yes, it can be very offensive to be excluded. That is not something we like to feel. But it is true. Not everyone that dies goes to heaven which is a very real place. The key begins with what we do with Jesus. If we reject Him, then, yes, we will be rejected. People want to go to heaven, but are unwilling to take the necessary steps and think they should gain admittance anyway. It just isn't going to happen. A lot of "good" people are going to be in hell, sadly. Yet Christians are told we are awful people for saying so. Someday, they will all know the truth and there will be much weeping. The gospel only offends those who are perishing and I think it was clearly put this morning. Way to go Elizabeth.

I was saddened, as my co-worker was, when we began discussing a baby shower for a seventeen year old from our local high school. One of the friends of the honoree had just had a baby. She was telling the others that she was a little disapponted that she had had a boy because she really wanted a girl. The she stated that she would just have to find another sperm donor to see if she could get a girl. It is a badge of honor for many of our girls to get pregnant while in high school. I wonder how this came to be and it saddens me deeply. The idea of the family has so eroded that we do not even understand any more the importance of it all, much less the morality of such thoughts.
Just look at the commercials these days compared with thirty years ago, not to mention the tv shows. Used to be that they used plastic maniquins to advertise bras and panties. Now they schedule a prime time show to have models walking around in them. There is no modesty left in our society.
Then my husband tells me of a local third grader who was found smoking a joint on school grounds. Upon investigating the situation, it was learned that the parents were rolling the joints to send to school with the child. He was to give away two and charge for the third one. The stories our girls at the drug rehab where I work can tell of mothers and aunts who got them started on a life of addiction is so apalling. My heart aches for the innocent children.
Then I also look at the third grader whose mom became upset when the cheerleaders were forced to chant a cheer about shaking their booty. When the mom protested, the girl was removed from the squad. The saddest thing about all of this was that the other parents saw nothing wrong with it because everyone was doing it.
The Bible tells us not to be a friend of the world and that it is nothing to be proud of. The world is at war with the kingdom of God. So take a guess at who is in control. We are to jump with joy when others call us weird or outdated and shake their head in unbelief when we stand for our morals. Shoot, when we stand for anything! If we are getting no resistance for what we believe, we need to take another look at what we believe. If someone isn't unpset, then maybe something is wrong. I am not saying we should go out with the intent of making people angry, but if they all love us, I'd bet we are following a watered down gospel.
Jesus did not come to bring peace, he came to upset things a bit. Look at how happy the church leaders where with him. My sister believes that real christians aren't offensive, she told me so. I told her,to look at who it was that wanted to put him to death and why. I knew she would understand because she was raised in the same Christian home I was. Look at Paul. He created a riot wherever he went because of the gospel he preached and lived.
We need to get serious about the gospel we preach. We need to let it transform us, body, mind and soul. Not everyone is going to like the transformation. It makes others uncomfortable because their own sin becomes so much more apparent. Not because we lord it over them, but because standing in the presence of holiness, sin must flee just as darkness disappears when the light is shone. We are to be light. Let us shine that light in the darkness that is closing in around us. Let us no longer sit and watch, but get up and do what we were meant to do as Christians.

People ask why it is so hard to stick to the program here at times? My answer is commitment. When your heart and soul are truly in to something, you cannot be deterred from your goal. Oh, but you don't understand, I love sweets one may say. My answer again is commitment. You can enjoy the sweets, just lower your portion size to not feel deprived. If you cannot have them and just eat a little then do without or substitute something like a carrot perhaps. Or distract yourself with exercise. You could give yourself a penny or a quarter for every time you resisted and keep it in a jar so you can see it mount. Then at the end of 28 days reward yourself with a predetermined healthy reward. The thing is, if you are committed, you will do everything you must to stay on track.
The Bible tells us to keep our eyes fixed on the prize and to not look to the left or to the right. Is that not commitment? If there is one thing I have learned in my life it is that God loves commitment. Nothing changed in my life until I put all my eggs in one basket. When I was wishy washy, I remained in the same unchanged state. If we move closer to God, He will move closer to us. What are we willing to receive from Him? As we reap so we will sow. Don't put your head to the plow and turn to look back, your prize is before you, not in the failures of the past. And it all begins with our level of commitment, boosted by our faith. Commitment is the car, faith is the gas.
So today, do what it takes and you will see results, no matter what part of your life you struggle in. Keep your focus and your goals in sight. Do your part and the rest will fall in line. The prize will not remain out of reach forever.
