Back at it again.....

So....I've been off track for a few months. (oops! emoticon) But I am very happy to say I am back on track and I'm determined to stay for a while. I have actually put nearly 10lbs back on over about 4 months :( But I am not letting it get me down. I have set a new goal and I am gonna hit it if not exceed it! I HAVE to do this and I will dadgumit! haha!

So this morning when I got to work I weighed myself. I was pretty scared since 2 nights ago I might have drank a little too much and ate junk :| So I was prepared to see the scale move...up. But low and behold it went down! I could not believe it! Not only was it great to see, but it was also the exact thing I needed to see to be rid of 60lbs!! Craziness! I know that my spark ticker only says like 45, but I had lost 15lbs before starting spark so I started with my current weight.

Anyways...I just had to get it out. I am so happy! I have never believed in myself to be able to do this before. Even after stuck in a long rut, I still managed to come out of it!

Now, if the work day will go by fast and easy and tonight we win the LoneStarSSC championship in softball, then it just might be a perfect day! Oh and maybe if the temp drops about 15 degrees ;)

Fat Burning Foods?!

Okay so this morning I was getting ready for work. (boo) As I do every morning I was listening to my morning radio show. (106.1 Kiss FM) There is one girl on the show named Jenna that is always doing research on things that are interesting/helpful to know.

Well this morning just happened to be about weight loss. I can't remember every little thing that was said, well because I was getting ready concentrating on not screwing up on my make up and well I suffer from CRS. (Can't Remember S***!) I blame my even younger days ;)!

I did manage to remember the last thing they said about fat burning foods. Basically they speed up your metabolism when you eat them. The first one they said was garlic. I'm assuming this does not mean garlic powder :( The second one was chili peppers, which I've heard this before about spicey things being able to speed up your metabolism. The last one which is the major one. The thing was if you eat this before every meal it blocks like 75% of the fat in the meal!!!! I was thinking GREAT! I'LL DO IT! But when I heard what it was I thought differently. It's seaweed! Now, I do love food but I just don't know about this. I guess it would be worth it, but man I just don't know. They had Big Al try it on the show and he made an awful sound when put it in his mouth. Also he said it melted on his tongue! (THAT'S WHAT SHE SAID!)

Anyways....has anyone ever heard about the seaweed before? Or tried it? Apparently it comes in different flavors, but I'm from the country and seaweed as food just sounds nuts! But I'll prolly try it, and I'll let you all know how it was and if it works. That is, if I can stand it long enough to see results!

    Honestly, I trust Jillian Michaels on this sort of subject, and she's said that all those "negative calorie/fat burning food" claims are false. And I do personally find it hard to believe that any food "blocks fat". Cayenne (or hot pepper) and garlic increase blood flow in the body, which helps the body detoxify more quickly. Both are very good to have when you're sick, as cayenne raises the body temperature, which helps kill bacteria and garlic creates a sulphuric environment in your body (this also unfortunately gives you bad breath) which kills bacteria. Both make your body an uncomfortable place for bad bacteria, so the bacteria cells are weakened and don't multiply as quickly, so your body has an easier time defeating the bacteria. So, these foods do help the body detoxify, which does aid in weight loss. But I just don't buy the "block fat" claim".

That said, seaweed IS healthy and has many nutrients that may help the body detoxify and function at an optimal level, but it's not worth eating if you hate it. I am one of those crazy vegetarians who loves asian flavors (seaweed included), so I do eat nori. But even for me, I can't eat it regularly, I only eat it when I crave it. It does have a strong taste, and the texture is one you either hate or love.

    I've eaten seaweed when it's with sushi. Eat some with a helping of sushi and you won't taste it. :)

  I don't know about blocking fat but seaweed in general is healthy for you. I would suggest looking up the health benefits of seaweed. I personally love it, especially in sushi and dried sheets you find in asian markets but it is an acquired taste.

    oh thank goodness someone else listens to the kid kraddik in the morning...i was listening this morning too and what they were talking about was "sea's gift roasted seaweed snack"...not if it melts like big al says it did, i would probably gag but hey if it's going to block that much fat, why not...if you google it, you can see the package and Jenna said she got it in the asian aisle at the store...

    Take some time to do your own extended research. I don't have any info on seaweed but have recently heard that there is no scientific proof about spicey foods speeding up ones metabolism.

  I don't think you have to go that route to block fat, you do need some fat (good fat), this may be blocking the fat you need! You need more info.Seaweed? emoticon

    I'd be a bit skeptical about that one.
I think if you're sticking to a low fat diet then blocking fats is not necessary.

    I've only eaten sea weed in my sushi rolls - it tastes fine, so maybe this is something to try! Would it be like spinach I wonder?

    seaweed is sold in sheets at asian markets..it is used for sushi and california rolls..it is also torn up and used to top miso soup..there are also seaweed capsules but dont know what theyre called

Help! I'm stuck!!!

I've hit a major plateau and I'm not sure what to do!! I want to get past this ASAP as summer time is coming up. My work out partner and I have been doing a lot of weight training lately, so I'm thinking it's time to start hitting the cardio HARDCORE!!!

I want to get into running again, but I know this is TMI but I have LARGE breasts and even when I wear 2 sports bras or ones that are small they still seem to give me a hard time. Especially in the back department.

Anyhoo....does anyone have any suggestions to get unstuck?? Is running really the best fat burner? I need to know because this is just frustrating. emoticon

    Hey girl - #1 - I had to invest in an expensive, but SOOO worth it, nice sports bra that I only wear when I run. #2 - try spin class! It isn't as much bouncing and I burn about 800 to 850 calories in there! For the same amount of time running, I burn about 900 calories...so very comparable without as much strain on the body/boobs ;)

    do HIT, which is high intensencety training.
you start off at a good pace were you can talk, do that for 3 to 4 min. then you go as fast as you can for up to 1 min or more. then slow down till you catch your breath and back to float out. you do this for 30 to 60 mins a day and you calorie burn will last up to 24hrs.

  Kick boxing is a high calorie burning workout. Try Taebo! That works. Mabye you're body is used to the same exercise you've been doing. Try something new. I've been stuck at the same weight for over a month now and it's very frustraiting. Good luck!

    If your passion is running (or anything aerobic) ...have you ever tried a smaller cup size just with your support sports bra? I'm uncomfortable when I do anything aerobic that jiggles me too much.

    Your fitness and exercise is not public on your sparkpage, so I couldn't look at that to try and give you some ideas... You might want to open that up.

I find personally that running is not the best for me. I too have large breasts and they really hurt after running even though I wear a sports bra from LadiesOnlySports.com (which is the best sports bra for large breasts that I've found). I've lost close to 85 lbs now with walking an hour or more 6 days a week and watching my diet here on sparkpeople. If you look at my records (which I have chosen to make public) you will see that I keep track almost everyday too!

    Have you tried 12,000 steps a day? No need to run to get your cardio in . . . The Step Diet works for other people . . .

    The elliptical machine is great for low impact and should reduce the problem you're having with your sports bras. I never liked running until I had my breast reduction surgery. Large breasts and running just don't mix.

NBA All Stars Games

Hello all! Just trying to get the word out about my apt in North Dallas that I will be renting out this coming weekend for the All Stars games in Arlington. My apt is about 30 min from the new Cowboys Stadium. It's 1 bd,clean, cozy, queen bed, big screen tv, free wifi, large sofa and love seat, kitchen, and pets are welcome as long as they're house trained. I am asking $750 for the entire weekend. I will not be there so you will have your privacy. It's a quiet neighborhood and close to a lot of fine restaurants including PF Changs and III Forks.
