Looking Back and Making STRIDES FOR THE FUTURE

Looking back I hardly recognize that girl anymore.



Who is she?




What kind of an example was she setting for her child?



How did she see herself at that weight? Or did she really see herself at all?



How did her family see her?



This had to have been at my heaviest.
I am not really sure as you when your big you don't want your picture taken.
You don't want to be noticed if you can help it.

I found measurements from around this era. It scared me.

HEAVIEST WEIGHT 265.

January 25, 2007 is the earliest I can find.
Height 5'4"
Bust 48"
Waist 43.25"
Abdomen 54"
Hip 55.5"
Thigh 33.75"
Calf --
Arm 18.25"
Weight 252
Body Fat % 45%

SEVERE DIABETIC.
SEVERE GLAUCOMA.
CANNOT WALK WITHOUT PAIN.
SEVERE (SURGERY NEEDED) CARPAL TUNNEL AND NERVE PAIN.
INFERTILE. NO KNOWN REASON.
TIRES EASY.
DEPRESSED AND RECLUSIVE.

To say the very least...scary.

I felt like giving up.

I really and truly did.

But someone, maybe more than one needed me.



So I continued to try.

I continued to show my Doctor that I was trying and doing all I could within my power to get healthy.

Sometimes all your trying and persevering helps but life sometimes throws a lot of sh*t at you.

My Doctor said I was a caught in a vicious cycle of health cause and affects. The more I tried to help my diabetes, the more it threw me under the bus.

He recommended me for a new trial program and I diligently went and continued doing the best I could.

Day in and day out.

Cause the day you don't try...is the day you die.

I wanted to live.

I was recommended and I received Lap Band Surgery 2 years ago.

It was the best thing for me, for my future.

I continue what I have always done.

Eat right.

Exercise.

The band is a tool. It is not a magic wand.

I have to work with it in order to succeed.

Good for you foods are harder to eat than the ones that are the wrong choice. So don't you dare say I took the easy way out. If anything I work harder today than ever, and that goes for most people out there.

I do kickboxing twice a week.

I do strength training twice a week.

I do Spin and strength once a week.

I do Zumba once a week.

I do Cardio up to 5 times a week.

What do you do? I hope for you and your health you move.

Weight - 188 DOWN 77 LBS
Arm 11.5 DOWN 6.75"
Chest 32 DOWN 16"
waist 30 DOWN 13.25"
hips 42 DOWN 13.5"
thigh 22.5 DOWN 11.25"
calf 12.5 DOWN ?
neck 13 DOWN ?

BODY FAT% DOWN 17.9%



I would say I am making strides towards the future.

In fact I am running to meet it!

Angela's Personal Plan of Action & a Year in Review

My POA for the new year but first a look of ONE year to compare.



Weight Down 4 lbs
Neck down 1”
Waist down 8”
Hips down 2”
Thigh down 3.5”
Arm down 2.5”

LOST A TOTAL OF 17 INCHES THIS YEAR (I am actually down a lot more, but using these areas to compare for now), ONLY 4 LBS GONE THIS YEAR. I STILL HAVE LOST A TOTAL OF 80 LBS, SO WILL NOT LOSE SIGHT OF THAT. emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

Size 10/12 Medium

BMR of 1566.8 down 22.1

Body Fat % of 27.1% down 0.45%



I am happy that I am thinning, but I really want to see the scale move. This year I am still focusing on inches, but more the scale too.

These are my goals, My commitments. I am committed!

I have committed to 5 days a week of fitness.
- Sunday & Tuesday Kickboxing
- Monday Spin & Strength
- Saturday ST and cardio
- Wednesday Zumba

SHORT TERM GOAL
To be accomplished starting as of now.
Eat clean. Re-evaluate my food choices and weed out non-Primal foods. Have been choosing sweets and flour items over the holidays and I feel awful. It is from the food choices I have been making. Too much processed and not enough natural.
Not a choice of have to, I Need to eat clean again.

Long Term Goal
I have 43 lbs to lose to goal. I don’t know if this is realistic or not, its the doctors number not mine. Size wise I don’t know what this would bring me down to a 4? 6? Is this me? I don’t know. But I am going to try.
So my long term goal is to move that scale.
I am on the right track as my inches show.

I CAN DO THIS. I AM DOING THIS. I WILL SUCCEED.

I don't know anyone who has actually reached their desired goal. they have gotten down to 5-10 lbs from goal but...

    You will do it all because that's the kind of woman you are. As to goal weight, you're free to set your own. You'll know it when you get there. Everything will come together: weight, overall healthy feeling, an appearance that makes you beam, pride, comfort and confidence within and without, etc. You'll know it.

The Plan works as well as you do...

My previous blog was about initiating a plan to cope with the holidays. I have to say it worked pretty darn good for the most part.

Of course it is only as good as the person working it and I do have my moments.

Like chocolates, not on Christmas Eve, not on Christmas day...
...my downfall was boxing day!

WHY??

It was a day of rest and relaxation; putting away gifts and goodies.

Unfortunately we had received chocolates as gifts.

I don't buy, I don't have them on my home.

Why?

Well, because of the mindless eating.

One begets two...

Two begets three...

...You get the picture.

Well, they are gone! They are out of here!

I hope it isn't too little too late, but they are gone.

Thank you, thank goodness.

Now I have a plan and am putting that into place.

I have enrolled in 2 classes per week of Kickboxing (Sunday & Tuesday).

I have committed to a Spin & Strength class on Monday evenings.

I have committed to a Zumba class on Wednesdays.

I am committed to working out with a friend on Saturdays.

That is a commitment of 5 days of exercise.

I am sure I can do it.

I am sure I can make it work and make my body work, perhaps even more than the plan.

    Those gift chocolates are a twofer guilt wagon waiting to happen. Glad they've traveled out of the house. The remedy is to enjoy the indulgence and get back on the Plan which you're obviously doing. Go 2013!

    Easily forgivable to have a sweet slip at this time of year. And just one day, wot the heck, Love!! Your plan helped me VERY much too. Chocolate is not my downfall, but dry cider can be ... so I bought 8 tins of my favourite Irish brand a week ago and enjoyed one a day! Now that, like your goodies, they are GONE, I am not sulking over having denied myself, nor do I miss them at all. Today has been 99% back to paleo, with only a Tbsp of stuffing crumbled into my sauteed veggies tonight. No cravings, no hunger, no guilt ... lovin' the one-day-at-a-time Be Good To Myself plan!

Thanks, as always, for your influence and example. Yeah, you still kinda rock bigtime, eh. Y'DOOOO!

    Way to go for committing to so much exercise - I know you will do do awesome at it! Chocolates are hard to resist, especially fancy boxed chocolates - hard to stop at one, that's for sure. Chalk it up to a Christmas treat and now you are on to bigger and better things - getting skinny in 2013!     The only chocolate i allow in my home is the 60% cocoa? chirardeli pieces I might have on a microwaved banana or pear as a desert for flavor that is it. I've done pretty well with portion and can say no. Great motivation you are Angela. You are a winner!

It is that time of year for most of us who celebrate Christmas, and for those who celebrate Chanukah, Solstice or just enjoy being with family/friends for the holidays.



Yes that time of socializing with the pitfalls of possible self indulgence.

Possible? Oh yeah...

It is so easy to fall into the YO YO! trap while celebrating your HO HO!



What am I talking about? Well the scale and your weight becomes your yo yo, rising and falling with the choices you make.

Does this make me and you happy to see? No unless it is on the downward side of our weight, then I am very jolly indeed!



But how do we avoid the pitfalls of this holiday season? How do we remain Jolly and retain our HO HO! while losing that YO YO?



That is a tough one, but in a sense not so tough at all.

WE need to PLAN AND STICK WITH OUR PLAN.

That doesn't mean we have to deny ourselves everything. If you are dreaming of shortbread and sugar cookies; plum pudding is dancing in your head; your drooling over the thought of Turkey dinner and all that goes with it.

PLAN

PLAN to have A cookie.

PLAN to have A small piece of plum pudding.

PLAN to have this or that.

PLAN to have what it is you really really want.

And most importantly --

STICK WITH YOUR PLAN!

I PLAN to have the turkey, salad, vegetables those are all a go and fit into my plan anyways.

I PLAN to have a piece of pie or a piece of plum pudding. These are not normally in my plan, but by adjusting my food tracker that day I will indulge GUILT FREE.

I Probably won't have wine or alcohol. WHY? Because I CHOOSE NOT TO, as it DOES NOT FIT INTO MY PLAN.

You may make your PLAN SPECIFIC TO YOUR GOALS.

Now this is my plan for Christmas Day, what happens if we go visiting?

Well....
I USE THE SAME PLAN!!

Keep it simple. If you plan to indulge make room for it in your daily calorie count.
I will cut back on my Breakfast, lunch and snacks so that I have more wiggle room at Dinner if this is where my PLAN needs to come into play.

It is also easier to bounce back from a day or two of indulgence than it is from a week or more.

I will also PLAN TO EXERCISE to combat this extra intake.

Walk, jog, stretch, strength...whatever you enjoy as long as YOU MOVE.

Yep...MOVE IT TO LOSE IT.



I am off to run now, followed by cleaning my house and walking the dog.

I hope you are PLANNING AND MOVING.

Together we can Plan and beat the YO YO! and make the HO HO! our focus.

    i planned to NOT have cookies, fudge or candy and i didnt
i did have a piece of prune cake
and a chocolate covered pretzel....the kind that people make at home.
and i walked, see, today was our family gathering, i have one more dinner here at home to get thru
but, i know i will not be fixing cakes cookies candy fudge or pie
and i will walk, that is my plan
happy whatever it is everyone celebrates

    Good for you! I'm confident that I can stay on plan where exercise is concerned but am a bit worried about my food plan for a few days. We're staying with my mother-in-law and I have no input on the cooking or the food we'll be eating. As a Southern woman, she LOVES casseroles and doesn't serve that many fresh vegetables. I definitely need a solid plan to avoid letting my weight creep up during the visit. Thanks for the reminder of how important this is!

Hi My Friends.
Just finished a painting and am very happy with it.
Not quite sure what to call it...
I am thinking 'Torn'...
Any ideas?

**since I posted I have decided to go with Merrikate's suggestion of 'TORN BEAUTY'. I was partial to torn anyhow because of the torn wing and it is a beauty. Thank you all my dear spark friends.

    How gorgeous this is, Angela -- superb! I like your tentative title's pointing out that gently torn wing-edge, so maybe something like "Torn Beauty" ... but? Hmmm ... even that may not be as subtle as this lovely image deserves. Shall mull. Suspect you will come up with something simple, original and perfect y'self, Love!

    How about "At Peace".... beautiful work! I have 23 butterfly bushes in my yard and had over 50 at a time in my yard this year it was breath taking! How about "Breath Taking" hahahaha emoticon
