Restaurant Nutrition Index

Sunday, February 07, 2010

emoticon

I knew that SP had a Dining Out Guide, but today I discovered the Restaurant Nutrition Index. I didn't explore it thoroughly, but I was thrilled to find that Pizza Hut had a link to their Nutritional Calculator. On this site I was able to build my own pizza and decide how many slices I wanted! It calculated a list of the nutritional information for each type of pizza that I was considering! I happily ate my 2 slices of thin crust veggie pizza with a reasonable serving of salad and I was comfortably full! In the past, I have complained when we dined out with friends who wanted this same pizza, but today I enjoyed it and I did not feel deprived.

We made a huge salad (for 12 people) with romaine, spinach, shredded carrots, shredded red cabbage and cucumber slices. Most of the children had some and the ladies raved at how delicious it was. Most of them have brought bagged salads to our dinners, so there's definitely a noticeable difference in taste when the ingredients are freshly chopped. However, It was time consuming to prepare and I'm glad we have some leftover.

Thanks for sharing about the Dinning Out Guide. I am still learning my way around Sparkpeople and it is wonderful when people share. You have shown me several things.
Thanks!

I love the veggie pizza now where I used to want the pepperoni and sausage. I find I actually crave the veggies now! I love that you had spinach in the salad, that is awesome :)

On a mobile note, if you have a web capable mobile phone there is a Restaurant Nutrition App from Spark People to make it easy to check some restaurants out "on the go"

Have a great week!

Sounds like you had a super bowl party. Isn't it amazing how we can take the time to prepare freshly chopped veggies for company but it's to much trouble to do it for ourselves. I've been reminded of how much better that is here lately having people over for shows. Every time I comment to my husband that I don't know why I don't do that for myself.

Gym Update, etc.

Saturday, February 06, 2010

I went to the gym today and torched some serious calories on the treadmill after I did the more difficult hills program on the recumbent bike. The music was just right so I kept going much longer than I planned. Plus I did some ST after I got home. That's my kind of Saturday morning workout!

I talked to a staff member who said they're convinced the theft of all of the TVs was an inside job. Apparently a female employee quit on Monday, but did not turn in her keys. (duh!) The person I spoke to worked later that night and closed the club and set the alarm. However, the alarm was not triggered during the theft and there was no sign of forced entry. Everybody thinks she was instigator but they have to prove her involvement. The TVs will be replaced, but no news as to when.

I went grocery shopping and came home and baked 4 lbs of chicken breast and divided it into ziploc bags and put them in the freezerso that they're ready for use in casseroles, etc. We'll be preparing a huge salad to take to our home group pizza lunch meeting tomorrow. We're ordering 4 pizzas from Pizza Hut so I will check out their options tonight so I will have a better idea of which kind of pizza to request. We may order 1 thin crust veggie pizza for those of us watching our nutrition intake.

The street crew was working TODAY, a SATURDAY, at 7:15 AM and it was cold (about 35 degrees) !!! They must be trying to meet an earlier deadline b/c they haven't worked on Saturday before and it appeared that there were more workers than usual. It looks like about half of the other side of the street is now connected to the new sewer line.

I got a message yesterday from our neighbor two doors down that she took her mother to the ER on Thursday night/Friday morning. Apparently the mom was vomiting blood and they've admitted her to the hospital. She didn't leave her cell #, so I left a message today, but I haven't heard any further update. I'm going to call the neighbor in between us as they are very good friends. It would be very sad to lose her, she is so spunky for being 81 years old. She's the woman who literally shuffled over here to bring us a plate of Christmas cookies.

It sounds like you're doing an excellent job with both your exercise and your nutrition programs. Way to go! That's bizarre about the TV crime. The Bally's gym I'm attending on a visitor's pass has two stories but only one TV. You're lucky your gym plays good music; the music at my gym is barely audible, and the tunes aren't that great. Dont get me wrong, though: I LOVE mixing up my exercising by going to a gym. And the steam room is definitely a bonus. Anywho, enough about me. Keep up the good work!

Great job on exercising and planning for your meals. That should really help. I like the idea of taking a huge salad to the pizza luncheon so you can control what you eat. There is nothing like lots of veggies to fill you up. I hope you have a relaxing evening planned .

I Love Macy's!

Friday, February 05, 2010

I have needed a pair of casual dress shoes for a long time and my "Ideal Feet Inserts" have not been ideal as far as fitting into many styles of shoes. I did my online shopping homework this morning and it appeared that some great shoe possibilities were in stock at Macy's. Plus, wearing something red from yesterday through Saturday entitles the shopper to an extra 20% off sale prices! woohoo! I not only found the shoes, but a cute & cheap wristwatch (haven't had a watch in 3 years), and a few tops for work and play.

I lost 2.1 lbs this week! emoticon I was hoping for a good number since last week's wasn't a great number, in part due to having the flu, I presume. In conjunction with participating in the SP Healthy Heart challenge, I'm eating SIX servings of fruits and veggies a day and now it's almost automatic to have 2 veggie servings at dinner. I joined the Quickfire Challenge team today and I'm excited to have mini workout ideas that are meant to be done throughout the day.

I hope everyone has a wonderful weekend!

Take care of your emoticon

Back to the Gym!

Wednesday, February 03, 2010

Today was the first time I'd been back to the gym in a week due to having the flu and easing back into exercise. I also got my fix reading more in "The Spark" while on the recumbent bike in the "Ladies Only" section of the gym. I walked on the 'mill in the common area for my cool down and I noticed that all 6 of the hanging TV screens were gone! A gal hopped on the 'mill next to me so I asked her if she knew what happened to them, but she said they were there yesterday. hmmm On my way out I asked the gal at the front desk about it and she said they were STOLEN either Sunday night or early Monday morning. The alarm did not go off and they apparently have no clue who did it, although I'm sure they are investigating all employees. Bummer, major bummer b/c I love to watch CNN and ESPN when I'm on the 'mill. Now I'll have to adopt Louisa's term: the DREADMILL.

emoticon

Lastly, I have this question: In light of the fact that the gal who was working out next to me said that the TVs were there yesterday, how reliable is "eyewitness" testimony? emoticon

Reading this blog and posts made me really miss having my gym membership! I loved being able to really mix up my workout. I especially liked rowing. When the economy picks up, hopefully I can start back at it.

Yeah I got back to the Y yesterday. It was great to be back in the pool . Then today I got my TOM so I'm back out for the next several days. I for one will celebrate menopause. About the stealing- I got to the lab one morning and was at my computer checking my email befor I got started doing my tests and I looked over at the printer/copier and the top was open and the black ink cartridge was gone! Someone had stolen it! This cartridge weighs about 3 lbs so somebody had to see it! Never did find out who did it. People are weird.

Wow. Some people will steal anything. I business near the one I work at was broken into and a flat screen was stolen, but the person cut their arm breaking the glass and they just followed the drops of blood...

Well, hopefully they will be replaced soon... I guess the fitness equipment was too heavy to carry out :-)

Have a great Wed! The week is 1/2 over - woo hoo!

If you adopt the term DREADMILL, how motivated will you be and for how long. Language has power, and the pictures we create in our mind will somehow become our reality. So, make good pictures and use words that encourage. emoticon

Dallas Museum of Art

Tuesday, February 02, 2010

Today DH & I went to see the special exhibit "All the World is a Stage" today for FREE admission. DMA has free admission the first Tuesday of the month! woohoo! The exhibit had a nice variety of art forms including statutes, costumes, tapestries, paintings, etc. There was a totally worthless exhibit (IMHO) of a baby grand piano filled with concrete and other stuff that made no sense to me. However, if the exhibit happens to make it to a reasonably priced museum near you, I encourage you to go see it. My favorite exhibits have been the Titanic (some years ago at a science museum) and King Tut, which was at the DMA about a year ago.

I did my Pilates dvd today and a moderate amount of walking at the museum and I'm feeling stronger every day. I'm looking forward to going to the gym tomorrow. The Healthy Heart challenge is making me think of how I can fit more veggies into my meals!

I ma glad you are making it back to the gym tomorrow. I saw King Tut years ago in San Francisco and it was magnificent.
It's easy to fit in more veggies. Just add an extra serving to every meal.
