Started P90X

Saturday, August 06, 2011

I bought P90X because a friend of mine is doing it and it sounded like fun. I needed something I can do at home since I have ended up being gone a lot working out and it's nice to do it in my own living room for once.

I was a little afraid to try it since It's supposed to be intense and for really fit people. To me, that means with a lot of muscle and really thin, so I thought I wouldn't be able to keep up. But I started it last night and found out that a lot of the exercises I have already been doing in my fitness class and Tae Kwon Do! I guess I have underestimated my own fitness.

So I did a workout last night (core) and a workout today so far (cardio) and it wasn't so bad! I do have to modify a lot of things or go a bit slower than the people on the video but who cares. I'm in my own living room. There's nobody there but me to hold myself accountable and if modifying things means I can finish the whole workout then that's awesome! :) And I did actually keep up much better than I thought I would. Yay!

I'm pretty proud of myself for finishing both workouts just fine so far. Am I sore? Sure. But I've gotten quite used to that so it's nothing new or out of the ordinary. I'm sure I'll have more workouts that will be hard but I'll plug through and get more fit as I go. Can't wait!

Hope your new workout P90X, goes well for you. I don't even attempt that kind of thing, my poor old joints are too sore from all those years I weighed 328 lbs. But I try to walk almost every day and today I went for a bike ride, so in my own little way, I'm getting some exercise in there. Thanks for your comments on my "Insight from a Loser" blog. I appreciated it. Looks like you're well on your way to being more physically fit. Wish I had realized I needed to do something years ago when I was your age. You are much wiser than I was. Good luck on your journey!

emoticon Kudos to you for starting P90X!

And ALWAYS modify. I'm on Week 9, and I still modify certain moves. Like you said, it's better to modify and complete the entire workout than to skip parts and cheat yourself.

Keep me posted on your progress!

An Alien in My Own Body

Sunday, July 31, 2011

I have been shopping in the plus size sections and stores for so long that I automatically gravitate toward those places even though I bought several pairs of dress pants in a REGULAR size stored in a size 12 today. I KNOW I've lost a lot of weight, I FEEL like I've lost a lot of weight, I have people tell me how good I look and yet it really hasn't registered fully yet. I feel like an alien in a body that I am MUCH happier with but it still doesn't really compute how different I look. I still just don't believe it even though I can see the difference when I look in the mirror. I still have 20 pounds to lose, which is A LOT, but I've lost almost 70 pounds from my heaviest! I KNOW I'm not the same and don't even look close but it's still hard to actually believe.

I went shopping with my sister today. We went to Fashion Bug first. I bought 2 pairs of dress pants and 1 tank top. The pants were both a size 12 and I was so happy! But a lot of their clothes are long including their tops. As much as I love that store, I think I've even shrunk out of most of their sizes. I have a shirt in size SMALL and it's a bit too long but totally wearable.

Then we went to Boston Store at the MALL. I found a pair of pants that fit INCREDIBLY. I love them so much I went out to the rack and bought a SECOND pair of the same pants. In a 12! ME! Off the 70% off rack! I found another shirt in a SMALL there so it isn't a fluke just for Fashion Bug clothes. Total, I got 4 pairs of dress pants for work, 2 dressy tank tops, one casual jacket and three other shirts along with a pair of sandals. I thought I did pretty well.

Then we walked through the mall and I kept looking at Lane Bryant and other plus size stores and my sister kept saying, "We don't need to shop there anymore!" every time I did it. I remember going into JC Penny's one day and looking at cute clothes and they were all too small. No More! It was a nice realization that I can shop in regular stores in the mall and I don't have to bypass them for the plus size ones anymore. I can shop off the regular rack and fit into nice clothes. What an AWESOME day! :)

Seems to be working

Saturday, July 23, 2011

I have a friend who had a smoothie party so I went. Turns out she has started a business with Herbalife and I was interested in finding out how the products worked and what it was all about. I have always been skeptical about any sort of supplements and meal replacements and was very leery about starting anything new. I was also interested in finding out how much muscle I actually have so I had her come over to do a personal wellness profile for me.

She came over and did the scan and I decided to just try the products for a month and see if they worked. They have a lot of protein and that is supposed to help with hunger control so I thought I'd give it a try. I have so far lost 15 more pounds and it has definitely been easier to control my cravings and bring down my calories. Since I have been using the products, I decided to become a distributor to get the discount. It's been a great way to get the nutrition my body needs. Thanks Nicole! :)

Day Camp Week - derailed again - sort of

Sunday, July 17, 2011

This past week I was a 5-day volunteer at Girl Scout Day Camp. We were outside all day, Monday through Friday, and even though it wasn't really hot, it did make a difference in my eating and fluid intake. I drank a lot of water - no soda. I had a healthy Herbalife smoothie with fruit for lunches, healthy snacks including nuts and granola, more fruit, and a couple whole grain snacks. I did okay at night for dinner too and was within my calorie range most days. The big problem is that I was so exhausted two days that I didn't work out at all and I gained 1.3 pounds. I'm pretty sure it's water weight from being outside but it's still frustrating.

So this week it's back on the wagon, back to work and my routine and let's see what happens. I know that I had a LOT of fun this week spending most of it with my daughter and watching her grow as a Program Assistant in training and working with the younger kids at one of the stations. I got to spend a day with my youngest and we had a lot of fun. It's great quality time but I'm glad to be back to work tomorrow! Have a great week everyone!

Doing well this week

Saturday, July 09, 2011

Since my trainer suggested I stay at 1800 calories or less I've succeeded 3 days out of 7. The other days I was at 1860, 1900, 2300 and 2100. The highest days were the 3rd and 4th during the holidays, so that made sense.

I still have until tomorrow to weigh in but I've lost about 3 pounds so it has been awesome! :) Update to come tomorrow. Woo hoo!
