BROKE THE PLATEAU!

Sunday, June 19, 2011

I broke my plateau this week! Lost 3 pounds this week and I'm at the lowest I've been on my Spark journey yet. YAY! I had been adjusting my calories lower after losing about 10 pounds and when I've done that I have been hungry, ate above my adjusted calorie range and not lost weight. So I adjusted my calorie range back to where it was and lost 3 pounds this week. So unless I stop losing on the same calorie range and plateau naturally I'll just stay where I am thank you very much. :)

Yay for you! I recently came out of a long plateau too and once you're out it is so motivating and kind of reignites our commitment. Keep up the good work!

Why I do what I do

Friday, June 17, 2011

I work at a pulmonary doctor's office so we have many patients who are unable to walk even a little way down the hallway. I see it every day and didn't think much about it until today when something happened that made me think. One of our patients came to get sample medication and checked in at the desk in the front entrance of the hospital. The department called me and said the patient wanted to know if "One of the sweethearts" could please bring his samples to the door because he was having trouble today. I told them I would be right there - of course I would bring him! It's not too far for me to walk down the hallway at all. I've been working out 6-7 days a week for a while and have lost a ton of weight. I feel great and was thinking the entire time I walked down the hall that I never want to be unable to walk just down a hallway. So I'll keep working out almost every day and do what I can to prevent it.

I'm with you! It's amazing how much just having strong leg muscles affects the elderly's ability to walk. I'm going to keep on going! :)

Stuck on a plateau

Sunday, June 12, 2011

i've been playing with the same 5 pounds for several weeks now and I'm annoyed. I have had a hard time staying within my calorie range. I do really well for a few days and then not so good. In general, I'm eating REALLY well and I'm proud of that but I'm still frustrated. Sometimes I just get HUNGRY at night and go over my calories. I do everything I can think of - drink more water, do something else, etc., but just can't help it. Ugh.

The good news is that I've lost an inch in my waist and hips in the past month so that's a good thing. So why am I so frustrated?

Today is a new day and I'm looking forward to getting through this. Wish me luck!

Thanks KATERYN! Great idea since I tend to eat the same thing over and over again. I'm a real creature of habit. I do mix it up a lot with my workouts. I work with a trainer at my gym, I'm a black belt in Tae Kwon Do and I do cardio using the elliptical and treadmill at the gym along with a few workout tapes I have at home that I switch up sometimes. I think if I switch up the foods that will help.

And sometimes, you need to change up the foods you eat, as well as the exercise you do. I know I normally eat about the same 25 foods. So, once a week I try a new food and eat at the top of my calorie range. A couple of days later, I'll eat at the bottom of my range. It keeps the body guessing. I also change up my cardio every two weeks. I'm dancing this week to Zumba, next week I'll be jogging, two weeks after that I'll be bike riding, then I'll do the elliptical. I even change up the weeks so its not a regular rotation. I do the same with my strength exercises - I have about 50 different exercises of which I only do six a day. It's a chore sometimes to ensure I am working all my major groups but there's a lot of combos in there as well.

Inches lost is the best. If you're losing weight and not inches - you'd feel cheated. And it just could be your body is exchanging fat for muscle - lost inches but no weight loss as muscle weighs more! But ultimately, you'll be going down and down on the scale.

Thanks for the suggestions! I do make a point to eat frequently throughout the day but I just think sometimes it's just not enough. It's a balance that I have a hard time with. I usually do have fruit or something else here to snack on at night but lately our stash is gone fast! :) It's something I need to make a priority.

emoticonJust remember that sometimes the scale isn't the best indicator of how your progressing with your weight loss. It sounds to me like your losing inches, so that is another indicator that your doing something right! Just hang in there, but I would suggest that maybe you eat more during the day and space it out so that maybe you can have a couple healthy snacks in between so that by the time night comes, your not so hungry! Try to eat snacks that are high in fiber and that will fill you up more! I try to keep apples handy because at night if I get hungry and reach for an apple, it won't put my calories through the roof and I don't feel guilty! I wish you the best with your goals because you are worth it! emoticon emoticon emoticon

Another Advantage to being Thinner

Tuesday, June 07, 2011

Yesterday here in Wisconsin, it was 95 degrees outside. I walked outside and was shocked when my car thermostat said that. I didn't FEEL like 95 degrees. I told myself it was because it wasn't that humid so it didn't feel that hot. So today it was more humid but I was still not bothered as much by it as I had been in years past. I realized today that it's probably because I'm carrying much less body fat than I used to for the past 12 years while being overweight and now I'm not as affected by the heat. It was a good realization! Yay! :)

Same experience! Since Nov. 2009 I've gone frin 192 kbs ti 100 lbs. BIG difference in the way I experience heat AND cold. Felt a little colder that before with the lack of "insulation".

Congrats to you!

Good Problem to Have

Thursday, May 26, 2011

When I got my black belt it took a bit for the belt to soften up enough so it would stay tied around my waist during class. It had been pretty comfortable but last night and tonight it kept coming untied. It was REALLY annoying me! I couldn't figure out why it wouldn't stay tied.

Well tonight it dawned on me. It wouldn't stay tied because my waist got small enough for it to make a difference in where my belt tied around my waist! Go figure! AWESOME!

Had a great training session with my trainer today and a great workout at TKD tonight. I feel great tonight and really proud of myself. I'm looking for more good days coming up and to keep losing weight even though we're going camping this weekend and I'll be out of my routine. Have a GREAT Memorial Day weekend everyone!
