Never Quit Pledge (shared from SUNFLOWERGAL40)

Thursday, April 26, 2012

Today, I promise I will not quit.
I pledge that no matter, how many ups and
downs I pass through,
I will continue on my journey.
I pledge to make a NEW START today,
and forgive myself for my past,
and to stop being so critical of myself.
I pledge to take control of myself,
To Stop making excuses,
And stop blaming other people or situations.
I pledge to treat myself as I would my Best
Because that is who I am.
I pledge to stay in the race
and to be a WINNER!

Gold's Gym Challenge Results

Monday, April 16, 2012

I should be happier but for some reason I'm not. I lost a total of 6 pounds in 12 weeks, which is good in my book. Lost a couple of inches off my hips and waist, nothing off my thigh but who cares. I felt pretty good! Then I looked at the picture. Ugh. I feel like I still look pudgy! I don't know why - I just do. I hate myself in pictures even though I look and feel so much better than I used to. The good news is that my husband said I don't look pudgy so that means something.

I'm still at 158 according to the Gold's Gym scale, which is about a pound heavier than mine here at home. Still under 160 and I know I just got back from vacation but I had that ONE good week before we left and since then not much. I'm just complaining - no worries. I can still rock a workout and I can still feel good about my progress so far. But I'm whining. And I know it.

Pity party for one and then continue on tomorrow to my healthy lifestyle - no matter what weight I'm at. Good news is that I'm not inspired to eat my way through it - just annoyed at how I feel about that stupid picture.

You are 6 pounds lighter than you were 12 weeks ago, and definitely more focused. You are amazing, inspirational, and by far the best sister anyone could ask for. I've said it before and will continue to say it: I'm SO PROUD of YOU!!

I work as a dental assistant. Sometimes, people come in complaining of a chipped tooth. It takes the dentist with his magnifying glasses to see it. We'll fix it, but I have to admit, I never do see it.

This is just an example of how we can focus in on something about ourselves that no one else notices. Maybe, we need to look at ourselves like others do. Take off those magnifiers!

You look beautiful!!

I think you have done awesome, but totally get what you mean about seeing the imperfections! Some days I look in the mirror and think wow, i look great and other days I think ugh, improvements needed. I guess we need to look more at those "before" pics and realize how far we have come. Congrats on a great 12 wk challenge! emoticon

I get what you mean. And congrats on not eating your way through it! Weight will drop and new pictures will be taken. Some days I like the way my body looks more than others. I think that's pretty normal. And success on the weight and inches lost!
You've got this!

What is it about pictures that makes us focus on what we have left to improve? I know that my latest progress picture looks pretty good - to other people. When I look at it, all I see are pudge and dimples!

I think my after pictures are disappointing because I feel like I work so hard that I expect it to look amazing. I expect to see the abs of a 22-year-old Victoria's Secret model who's never had children and SURPRISE! I'm actually a human being. It's not fair!

Honey, you're doing fantastic! I read on someone's blog yesterday, "As long as I know I'm making healthy choices and exercising, my body will catch up later." Your body is catching up all the time!

Take another look at that picture and find three things about your body that look GREAT. You'll find them -- just trust me!

Vacation Was Fun But Glad to Be Back

Sunday, April 15, 2012

As some of you know I'm a creature of habit. I like my routines and really get uncomfortable when I'm out of them. I really needed this vacation with my family and loved being gone. I love road trips and we drove to Florida since it was a lot more expensive to fly the 5 of us than to drive.

We left around 8:30 p.m. on April 3rd and drove through the night to Atlanta, where Ken's best friend lives. Stayed that night in a hotel. We went to dinner and then went to Stone Mountain to see the laser light show but a thunderstorm blew through suddenly and they canceled it after about 15 minutes. The next day we went on to Florida and checked into the resort.

Last Friday we went on a tour of the Kennedy Space Center and it was really fun and interesting. The kids really liked it, too. It was good timing because we got to get fairly close to the Shuttle Discovery and they just took it to a museum so we were luck to see it.

Saturday we planned on going to Cocoa Beach but had to do a breakfast timeshare thing that was supposed to last 90 minutes but lasted almost 4 hours. It was BORING and we didn't buy one but finally we got to go to the beach. Ken and the kids spent a little time swimming in the ocean while I got a little sun and then we roamed a few shops there.

Sunday, Ken's parents came over from Clearwater where they've been staying for 2 months and we hit the pool at the hotel for a bit. Then we went to Downtown Disney and roamed around there for a while.

Monday, we parked at Epcot and took the bus to Hollywood Studios for the first part of the day. Spent some time there and then went over to Epcot for a while. It was a little bit of a bummer since we wanted to see more of each park but we made it work. We got to see my friend, Debbie, from up here since she and her husband happened to be there on the same day. It was nice to see her but really funny that we had to go all the way to Florida to spend some time together when we live about 45 minutes apart! Watched the fireworks and went back to the hotel.

Tuesday was Magic Kingdom and it's always my favorite place. We spent the whole day there and even got back to Epcot to see the Captain Eo show since my daughter is a huge Michael Jackson fan and we didn't get to see it the day before. Got back to Magic Kingdom and spent the rest of the day there. My feet and legs were SO SORE by the end since we had to stand a lot to see the parade and the fireworks and I was really glad to sit down that evening!

We were so tired after two days at the parks but the last time we went I was about 50 pounds heavier so it was A LOT easier to walk around. I didn't get sore the first day at all and that's a huge surprise. But it was awesome! :)

The bad part of the vacation was the eating out. We did have a lot of meals at the condo since we had a full kitchen and usually had breakfast there and leftovers a couple of times for lunch or dinner. But the most part we ate out. We did stop at a Subway twice and I usually found a place for a salad but I just couldn't keep my hands off the kids' plates! If they didn't finish their chicken nuggets - I had one - or two. I had fries almost every day from their plates. I had some of their dessert one day. We got chips and salsa for an appetizer one night and nobody else ate them but me. Ugh! That's why we don't eat out. I have no self control with that! My idea for the next time is to eat my own portion and then chew a piece of gum to keep my hands away from the kids' plates!

Then we left Wednesday morning to come home. Went to Atlanta again and had dinner with Ken's friend but then went back to the hotel and I got in a 5K on the hotel treadmill. Thursday morning we set off for Indianapolis. Stopped in Chattanooga at the Tennessee Aquarium and spent several hours there. Had lunch and then kept driving. We didn't get to Indianapolis until about 10:30 p.m. and we were wiped out. Didn't get a workout in at all that day.

Friday, we were going to let the kids swim but when we got up I just wanted to get home so we left right after breakfast. Got home and I helped unpack and then immediately got in a workout and shower since I felt like such a slug being away from my workout schedule.

I did get in workouts almost every day there, though. Except for a couple of days when Ken's parents were there and when we were on the road.

All in all, I gained 4.9 pounds, at least 2.9 of which was water since it's gone today. I'm glad I didn't do too bad but I'm really glad to be home and back in my routine. Hope everyone is having a great weekend!

Sounds like a great trip! I wish I could say something different but eating out is part of the fun cause you don't have to cook or worry about the food on vacation. It's also a way of celebrating for me. If you just GET BACK TO THE REAL WORLD AND ROUTINE of health you will be just fine. Thanks for sharing.

I understand that the schedule was off, but it sounds like you enjoyed yourself and that is what matters most.

Back to the grind again huh?

I plan on taking my wife and four on a family vacation this summer. If we can all decide on a destination that is.

Sounds like a busy, but fun vacation! Eating out is always a problem for us when we are on vacation too. We always intend to cook, but it doesn't take long for that to change to eating out all the time.

I hear you about routine though... I get all out of whack when we go on vacation so it's always nice to get back to the normal routine when I get home.

I'm glad most of the weight gain was just water.

"I'll Feel Better When I'm Done......"

Sunday, April 08, 2012

The alarm went off at 7:15 this morning. Rather late for me since I usually get up between 5-5:30 every day during the week but since we're on vacation we've been staying up later. I REALLY didn't want to get up. I REALLY didn't want to do my planned strength training workout my trainer gave me to do in my hotel room. But this tiny little phrase kept going through my head.......

"I'll feel better when I'm done."
"I'll feel better when I'm done."
"I'll feel better when I'm done."

I just kept repeating it over and over in my head until I got my butt out of bed, got dressed and did the workout. And it's true!

I feel better! And glad that I did it!

That's the secret to staying on track. Doing the work even when you don't want to. It would have been so easy to stay in bed until Ken's parents got here (they're staying in the condo with us for a couple of days and going to the Disney parks with us). But I didn't. I got up, got the darn thing over with and I feel good.

AND I got to have my favorite Herbalife smoothie for breakfast since we have a full kitchen including a blender. YAY!

Happy Easter everyone!

Good for you! Back when consistency was an issue for me, I'd just have to make myself get dressed and out the door before my brain had a chance to talk me out of it!

When DH was telling me about his plan to workout everyday after work, I asked him what he was going to do if he got off work and was too tired to workout (a common reason he skips). He said he didn't know and I said, "You go anyway!" Sheesh! Not rocket science!

There's a Reason WHY I Don't Eat Out A Lot!

Friday, April 06, 2012

Good news! Today I stayed pretty well within my calorie range but not perfect. I'm happy with today. AND I got in my hotel room workout this morning. So I'm happy with THAT! Found out the fitness center at our hotel is only open 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. So I can't go early OR late and might not be able to use the treadmill if it's busy or we don't get back in time. The hotel room workout is for strength training and I can't/shouldn't do it every day so I need me some cardio! Ugh! I just might have to resign myself to the walking for the day and the ST workout three times or so while I'm here. We'll have to see. Maybe I'll have to move the coffee table and do my tae kwon do forms for cardio - who knows. I didn't bring any DVD's to do since I figured I'd have access to a treadmill.

So in addition to sitting in the car for HOURS on end and getting NO activity, we've eaten out almost every meal since Wednesday morning. I won't bore you with the details. It's ALL there in my nutrition tracker. Like when I had vegetarian lasagna for dinner one night and it was a HUGE portion. I had about 1/3 of it and brought the rest with us. Then I HAD to have a slice of MEAT LOVER'S pizza with it. Then later, when I was tired and should have just gone to bed I had to have two MORE pieces of pizza lover's pizza. Or last night when I had a steak salad for dinner but was hungry so when they brought the bread I had one roll with butter. Then 2 and a half cornbread muffins! Ugh. Then we had a Dairy Queen blizzard for a snack yesterday afternoon. Then tonight I did PRETTY well and had a chicken spinach salad at Denny's but then had some nachos and 1/3 of a piece of peanut butter pie. I was still within my ranges though for the most part today, so that's good. But my activity level is down so that's still a challenge.

I guess my goal needs to be to MAINTAIN my weight this week. I was only trying to lose about 1.5 more pounds by the 16th for our Gold's Gym Challenge. We'll see - I still have time. Wish me luck! :)

We all have our moments, especially when out on vacation. You can't beat yourself for giving in... sure, should've been in smaller portions but it's really hard to stay on track when away from home and when tired from being out all day. It's never too late to start over. Best of luck on the Gold's Gym Challenge!!
