Black Belt Testing

Saturday, March 12, 2011

I just did my second black belt test ever last night. I am testing for my permanent black belt in Tae Kwon Do. The one with my name on it. :) My first black belt test was 5 hours on a Friday night with a 3 hour graduation ceremony the next day on a Saturday. Last night's test was only 4 hours but I think I'm more drained and sore than I was the first time. It's a good sore though - like I've accomplished something very few people even try. It feels great! Today is the graduation ceremony and I can't wait to get that belt and tie it around my waist. I feel official and I feel STRONG and SMART. I still have 50 pounds to lose (probably even more) but It doesn't matter. It's a great accomplishment and I feel good. I can do anything!

Personal dilemma

Monday, January 25, 2010

Okay, so I have never had this hard of a time losing weight. I've also never been as active or had such a hard time balancing the activity with the amount of food my body needs for fuel. Of course the fact that I just turned 40 doesn't help! I have followed Weight Watchers and am still following it, but am adding SparkPeople to my program since there is more nutritional value information available with the tracking system. I have been told by my Tae Kwon Do instructor that I need to eat more to fuel my metabolism but I find it hard to believe. It's hard to stay within my calories/points for the day since I'm really, truly hungry. It's a catch 22 I guess. I have been doing Tae Kwon Do for about 1.5 years now and am two belts away from my black belt. I take class at least 2-3+ hours per week, so I'm very active. But I've only lost about 10 pounds in that year and a half. Ugh! I know my eating habits when I'm not tracking are way overboard so it's no surprise but I'm still learning. So I've decided to take a different look at weight loss and eating less. I'm much more objective the last three weeks than I ever was before. I am not hiding when I eat more than I should or when I eat the wrong things. I just track it, learn from it and go on my way. It's working so far. Let's hope it continues!
