I've been feeling a little blue today...maybe because I'm tired and feeling a little off, maybe because it's been so damn gloomy for the last few weeks and hasn't been the easiest getting outside for exercise. But, I have to remember that there is something good in everything. Maybe the gloomy weather is a way to help me change things up and keep me interested in exercising.

Just heard on the weather today that mid Jan. to mid Feb. is considered the "dead of winter". After today things will be looking better! I hope so. I miss the sun.

Looking for exercise buddies

With all my friends moving away this year, I want to make an effort to make new friends. I am hoping I can find people I can exercise with...I so need motivation via other people to work out and I need new ways to socialize. I am really trying to hit more of the teams here on SparkPeople to find people who live in my area...If anyone reads this blog and lives near Hammond, IN, I would love a response...

Okay, so this is my downfall...I pray every day that I can get away from weight gain temptation, but then start really missing those temptations after awhile...and eventually let them creep back in. Like I'm too tired to exercise. It's raining, sleeting, and snowing.

walking in sand

I am so sore today. I went for a hike yesterday at Indiana Dunes State Park, walked about 5 miles. I tried to do a bit more than what I normally do on the foredunes, and man can I feel it today. My legs are so sore!

And, I read an interesting study today on the benefits of walking in sand...it was a 1998 Belgium study that found that walking in sand burns 2 to 2 1/2 times the calories one would burn when walking on a hard surface like concrete or asphalt. I guess my theory of getting more of a work out in sand than on the streets is right!
