Fall

Friday, October 15, 2010

Well its starting to cool off to more seasonal temps this weekend. I wouldn't neccesarily mind so much only I contracted the flu earlier on this week and have been off for the last 2 days. Have had the chills and all the other "nice" symptoms of the disease (I 'll leave the rest to you imagination). So needless to say, I haven't been as active as I might have liked to,which is a bummer. emoticon

Apparently you cannot add a blog late at night ( I did the previous entry at about 10 pm MDT on SATURDAY and the site entered it as though I had done it TODAY and yes I tried the trick of resetting the spart points calendar and cutting and pasting it did not help) Groan

I'm a night owl point getter. I frequently get caught up in the system maintenance period between 11pm and midnight on PST. At that time no accumulation of points is possible. I wish they would stagger their down-time. (You'd think I would have learned my lesson, but I still race to finish my spark business of the day in that last hour...LOL)

I imagine that this blog and my other comments could be confusing to some of the community as we in Canada celebrate "our" Thanksgiving earlier in the calendar (and NO its has NOTHING to do with the winter- in spite of some misconceptions some might have ). The thanksgiving we
celebrate has its origins in a celebration Martin Frobisher had (after safely returning from exploring the Arctic in 1578). I still recall some ambivalence about this weekend and its association (along with other holidays namely Christmas) with over indulgence and need I say it gluttony. I recall my first time working for the federal government 10 years ago in the High Arctic at a weather station (on a three month rotation- one of the best jobs I ever had why did I quit?) and they had a very nice meal. Actually it was TOO NICE if you get my meaning. Its not like I hate food but at times it seems like food hates me, at least if you take into account how effortlessly one can put away the pounds as opposed to taking them off - I am an asthmatic so I dont always like aerobic exercise particularly when I haven't worked up to it. I know I gained probably a good 25 or 30 lbs when I was in Eureka so when I cam e down south it was tough to lose (although having to bank my OT made it easier as I had 3 months off) Fortunately I go into exercise and I was still going to karate 3 times a week (including one night I was teaching at my own dojo) so it made it a bit less daunting. I rue the days when I was 18 with the metabolism to match (of course you ave to wonder if its all do to declining age or is it simply the lack of moving?).

Indian Summer

Wednesday, September 29, 2010

Well at least this week and (last weekend) have been very nice especailly compared to alot of this summer being rainy and wet (not complaining as we needed the precip), so its been nicer to do the cardio outside. I have only a little bit of leaves to rake from the huge maple tree we have in the backyard (its a lovely shade tree but its a lot of work as the previous owners let it get overgrown). Its nice to have a bit more nice weather I know the snow seems to come sooner and sooner (funny I used to enjoy it growing up,but then i used to do a lot of things with my dad that I no longer can do).

The day after

Sunday, September 26, 2010

Well as far as day s go yesterday wasn't nearly as bad as I had feared - I managed to control my appetite as reasonably as I could - no seconds on the supper in spite of the delicious food (roast turkey and ham) I did go heavy on the salads - probably a good thing- about the only bad thing was that I had 2 cocktails (still its hard not to especially when its a free bar and you need to let your hair down once in a while!). At least I was starting to feel a bit better- went to a restaurant that was closing in a week (a converted motorhome famous for its huge burgers- yes I got one but NO I hadn't eaten it orany portion of it yet)- the one I did have was about the size of a quarter pounder but it wasnt very good at all- I felt ILL thursday night and most of Friday.
Not sure but I think I got food poisoning, Not FUN .
