Black bean burger salad

Sunday, June 08, 2014

Been exercising more consistently over the last three months - yay! - but haven't seen any weight changes. Positive changes in mood, sleep, and status quo in barely fitting pants size? - yes. But no weight changes. All this reminds me of the need to focus on healthy eating habits. Eating too much of a good thing? - let me be honest with myself, this is still not quite good enough, depending on my goal. Annoying, but true.

I've found posting healthy recipes here good for me. I am hoping to compile a healthy repertoire of go-to meals.

Black bean burger salad
Black bean burger, toasted and cut into pieces
Shredded cheese, 1/8 c.
Sour cream, no fat, 1 tbsp.
Salsa, store bought, 2 tbsp. (the sour cream and salsa are a good salad "dressing")
Two cups of spinach
Some cherry tomatoes

Simple, fast, filling and tasty.

I need to be my own inspiration

Sunday, June 08, 2014

I have successfully completed 3 months of a 12 month gym streak! My goal was to do 30-45 mins of exercise 20 days out of every month. Over the last three years, I have not been exercising as consistently as I used to....I gained all the weight I once lost back, and then some. In March, I set myself some goals, and am hoping to get back to where I was by next March 2015. I know that I can do it!

I am posting here as a reminder of the positive changes I've maintained so far.

The first challenge was to get my butt back in the gym consistently...that's been going well. I switched gyms to a neighborhood gym. The neighborhood gym isn't as updated as the university gym I attend BUT its been great to see a diversity of people and body shapes, all working hard to get fitter! I hadn't realized how strange the university gym environment was (and how non-diverse) until I left. Now instead of feeling like a fish out of water, I feel like I fit right into the new environment and social values, which they post on the wall:

I LOVE this place! It provides just the bit of inspiration I've needed to renew my commitment to exercise.

Every time I successfully complete a monthly goal, I reward myself with a new pair of shoes. The shoes are to remind me to appreciate a part of my body I don't usually like, and to represent different places that I will hopefully go in the future. This has actually worked quite well as a reward, and surprisingly has also improved my confidence a bit :) I've been happily visualizing the 12 pairs lined up when I successfully complete my goal!

These are the pairs I chose as a reward for the last three months:

Month 1:

Month 2:

Month 3:

emoticon Three months back, yeah! Looking forward to Month 4!

P.S. The hardest part for me has always been cleaning up my diet...exercising helps me a bit, and I don't usually have as much trouble getting into a routine with that. Controlling calories and portions however...I'm going to have to make a similarly inspiring goal structure for a while in terms of diet, so that I can be more mindful --WITHOUT BEING OBSESSIVE-- about making healthy eating habits. I'm gonna need to think on this for a while.

So good to hear that you've been doing well and love the shoe reward idea. Onwards to month 4 emoticon

I love your monthly shoe rewards for meeting your goals, and what they represent. I've tended to set 5 pound goals with different rewards for each, but now I'm thinking I could really get behind this shoe thing! Also, that is a great sign from your local gym. Wish more places were like that.

F/W 2013 Exercise reboot log - week 5

Sunday, November 24, 2013

Goal: 150 minutes, or 2.5 hours of exercise a week.

Week Nov 18, 2013:

Wed, 45 mins. Upright bike, elliptical. Gym time.
Thurs, 45 mins. Elliptical.
Sat, 60 mins. Upright bike, elliptical, walk and jog on treadmill.
Sun, 60 mins. Upright bike, elliptical, walk on treadmill.

emoticon Total time: 210 mins. This was a mix of light to moderate exercise.

No cycling class this week :( Things keep getting in the way in the evenings, and I am not making it to the 7 am classes. Actually, early morning meetings are almost getting in the way of those too :(

Good news: going to the gym more often. However, working out at a lower intensity. Just feel like moving more and enjoying being at the gym again, not pushing it or anything. Starting somewhere with something is better than nothing, I guess.
