Setting My Limits

Thursday, March 10, 2011

First I want to thank everyone for their kind words and encouragement. They mean a lot.Spark friends are the best emoticon

My shins are feeling better but I need to still pace myself and not work out so hard to Walk It Out.

Just finished working it out to WIO for 36 minutes.I really wanted to go longer but my shins started to hurt some so thought I better stop and not push it.

The day before yesterday I went for 48 minutes which felt really good since I took it easy on Monday.

I really enjoy WIO and love that I found a workout that is rewarding and fun.Hopefully my shins will get better as I slowly work my way back up to WIO for about an hour or so.I will continue to listen to my body and stop at the right time. emoticon

Half the journey is won when you find something you really enjoy to be more healthy. Congratulations! Sounds like you enjoyed just a little too much, so take it easy and heal before you get back on the wii. emoticon

Walked It Out A Little Too Much

Tuesday, March 08, 2011

I was enjoying the Wii game Walk It Out so much but over did it a little.I now have shin splints.

I have had shin splints before and know the drill.I need to ease up on the intensity of Walk It Out.I really get into the game and the beat of the music.Need to tone it down some and let my shin splints heal.

I had shin splints a few years back thanks to walking too fast on an outdoor track when I first started walking that spring.I saw the whole track ahead of me and wanted to get around that track pronto which was a big mistake.

I now enjoy Walk It Out and the pace of the different music.I've been walking it out too fast and too long.Took the day off from it yesterday and walked around in the mall instead. As long as I walk at a slower pace my shins don't bother me.

Going to give it a try again in a few minutes but going at a slower pace and only for 15-30 minutes depending on how I am feeling.

I'll post back tomorrow as to how I did.

I am 35 apartment buildings away from finishing my third time through WIO. I got shin splints the first time when I was doing several hours a day on it. Now I limit my time to about an hour, put a soft pad under the mat on my hardwood floor, and wear soft slippers while I walk so I have a little support. I also do some foot stretches every day which helps since I have had plantar fasciitis in the past. It is an addictive game!

It's good you aren't just laying around with an excuse not to walk. AWESOME.
I feel very lucky I haven't had that problem . . yet.

Some Observations on My Journey

Monday, February 28, 2011

Been sitting here reflecting on my two months back to Spark People.I have two big accomplishments so far on my getting healthy journey.

I am down 13 pounds and exercising has once again become a part of my daily life.

I started working out to the Walk It Out Wii game a few weeks ago and so glad I heard about it here on Spark People.I am even more glad that I stuck to it after the first fews days when I didn't have a clue what I was doing.

After being two months into my journey, I can finally see some of the results of losing some weight and exercising.I am feeling stronger and more energetic. My slacks are getting longer on me due to my thighs shrinking thanks to all of the walking I have been doing.

It's so rewarding to me to be able to have such success in the winter time when it is so bleak outside. This is the time when I am usually gaining weight and feeling lazy. Not this year emoticon

Instead of getting too big for my spring and summer clothes I will have the opposite happen in that some of them should be too big for me.Glad I have some smaller size clothes to aim for.Should get some out and see how I am doing in regards to how they are fitting now and should fit in 2 months emoticon

Will blog more as I travel along my journey. What a wonderful way to track my journey.

Walk IT Out!

Thursday, February 24, 2011

Who would have thought that I would become addicted to a video game but I sure have. emoticon

It's an exercise walking video game...WALK IT OUT!

I love,love, love it!

Been getting in some wonderful exercise by walking to the upbeat music while playing the game. You earn points by taking steps and keeping to the beat of the music. You use the points to build up the island. My island is coming right along emoticon.

My Walk It Out virtual trainer told me today that I was in the zone. What music to my ears.I set my all time record today of walking 8,636 steps and burning 321.8 calories in an hour. Those results are so exciting for a 60 year old grandmother.I am very proud of my accomplishment and want to continue to build on it.

I've been walking and exercising to Walk It Out for a few weeks now and feel more more invigorated.I even found myself moving around and dancing to some of the music today as I get more used to the different beats of the different songs.

One area of the island that I really enjoy walking around is the beach area.Didn't get to that area today but sure makes me feel good to walk in the sandy area and see(and hear) the water and have the sea gulls flying above me.

How Time Flies!

Tuesday, February 15, 2011

Here it is already the middle of February. How time flies. This year I am happy to say that I have worked hard during our bleak winter months of January and February to kick start my healthy lifestyle. It will be very rewarding to the rewards of my hard work come Spring and Summer.

I can already tell a difference in my clothes and how I feel thanks to the 11 pounds I have lost and all of the exercising and movement I've been doing.

Since it is winter I have been concentrating on indoor exercising.I've worked out to Leslie Sansone Walk Away The Pounds,Richard Simmons Sweatin To The Oldies and now my new favorite Wii game Walk It Out.

I was so disappointed that I couldn't workout to Walk It Out yesterday. Our grandson misplaced the Wii Controller. His solution was telling us to go out and buy another one. What logic of a 9 year old.I told him no that I would eventually find it and I tried not to get too upset about it.

After we picked our grandson up after school yesterday we had a big search for the Wii Controller but to no avail.I even pulled the couch out and looked behind it but no luck.We gave up and I said I would look again today.

First thing this morning I decided to make it my mission to find the Wii Controller.I put my hand down between the cushions of the couch and what do I feel....the Wii Controller... emoticon

Can't wait to hear my virtual coach on the Walk It Out game tell me that she missed me yesterday.. emoticon
