Homemade Corn Tortillas

Sunday, May 22, 2011

So I saw this recipe for Corn Tortillas, you need a tortilla press and I dont have one but with one this would be awesome!! You could also use this mix for Hush Puppies or a Corn Cake topped with Chili.

Mix together Corn Flour, Sea Salt and Water
Press with a Tortilla Press

Love this!!! I was just thinking of how much I miss my tortillas. Family tradition here too!

Gonna give this a try, will be adding a press to the Christmas list this year!

Thank you :)

I've always made the flour tortillas as it was a family tradition, but have never tried the corn ones. Sounds good! thanks!

Sounds like they'd be yummy. I'd probably make tortilla frisbies though seeing that I'm short of a press too. ;)

Homemade Chili

Saturday, May 21, 2011

So I bought a can of Amys Organic Black Bean Chili and it was good, but also was almost 4.00 a can so I thought I would try to make my own and it ended up tasting amazing!! I topped it with Tofutti Sour Cream and Olives and served it with a side of Bakery Whole Grain Loaf Bread with Roasted pepper Hummus and Olive Oil and broiled it.

Homemade Vegan Chili

Black Beans
Brown Rice (already cooked)
Onions
Garlic
Green Chilis
Crushed Tomato
Jalapenos
Tomato Paste
Tomato Sauce
Chili Powder
Corn
Garlic Powder
Flax Oil
Wheat Germ

I think that was everything lol I just kind of made it up as I went! As you can see it looks almost exactly like the Amys Chili I ate the other day and it tasted just as good!

That is for sure REBELBLITZ!! Since going vegan I have made all of my own foods compared to everything that I was buying frozen at the beginning and I have been able to make it cheaper except for Almond Milk, it was about the same but alot more difficult to make so not worth it lol

Black Bean Chili With Whole Grain Bread

Thursday, May 19, 2011

This has been one of my most favorite Vegan Meals!! I put some Hummus and Olive Oil on the bread and then broiled it for a couple of minutes and topped my Black Bean Chili with Toffuti Sour Cream and Jalapenos. If I would have had Olives I would have used those too but I was out. I also added some Flax Oil .. Next time I am going to add some Corn!!

Daiya is a very good cheese. I like the Tofutti sour cream and cream cheese too. I have not tried the Soysation.

I do not buy the cheeses very often because they are a trigger food for me. They are very tasty. I add garlic powder to the tofutti cream cheese and it makes the best dip. emoticon

So far I like Tofutti Sour Cream and Soysation Cheese ... Also Tofutti Cheese and actually all brands of Tofutti when replacing any dairy has been good :-) Soysation makes different flavor of cheeses and comes in a block or pre-shredded and Tofutti makes slices. Also Ive heard about Daiya but I havent found it in my area.
