Ai ya...

Sunday, January 13, 2013

My kids requested pizza night, so that's what we're making. Pizza is one of those trigger foods. I'm making 2 batches of dough, one white and one white whole wheat. I will of course eat the whole wheat. And I'm having a salad too so hopefully I won't overindulge on the pizza. Wish me luck!

First choice...good decision
2nd choice is to set a portion goal

Now just keep going!!!!

keep pushin'

Sunday, January 13, 2013

Instead of a blog entry, I offer you song lyrics that are quite fitting for my situation (except for the living alone part and being a man part):

Keep Pushin' by REO Speedwagon

I used to be lonely till I learned about livin alone
I found other things to keep my mind on
And I'm gettin to know myself a little bit better
Whoa , I keep pushin on
Keep pushin on, yeah

Goin through all the changes I made so many mistakes, oh yes I did
Tryin to leave behind the heartaches
And sometimes I think I was a little bit crazy, oh yeah
Whoa, I keep pushin on

Keep pushin, keep pushin, keep pushin, keep pushin on
Keep pushin, keep pushin, you know you have got to be so strong
Keep pushin, keep pushin, well even if you think your strength is gone
Keep pushin on

Well it's comin together I finally feel like a man, oh yes I do
I never thought that I'd be where I am, oh
Everyday I wake a little bit higher
Whoa I keep pushin on, oh yeah

Hmm. Maybe I'll add some of this to my sig. :D

Saturday In the Park

Saturday, January 12, 2013

I like to blog with song titles as my entry titles because if I just used something relevant to what I usually blog, it would be something along the lines of "same old same old". So I'm not actually in the park. But I liked Chicago. Had a few albums of theirs eons ago.

Currently I'm keeping one of the dogs company. Or he's keeping me company. I'm not really sure which. And I'm enjoying a few quiet moments before I have to go pick up the kids from GiGi's house, where they spent last night. And if I failed to blog last night, (which I did) it's because I was spending quality time with my husband. We prepared a nice dinner together, filet mignon, with roasted new potatoes, and tried brussels sprouts for the first time. They tasted exactly like what they appear to be, which is wee cabbages. His comment was that while he wouldn't want to eat them every night, he knew we needed to add more veggies to our repertoire than green beans and broccoli, and that these would be acceptable on occasion. He's not Sparking, but he's trying to be more health conscious too. Fortunately for him, he doesn't have the same sugar/carb addiction that I do. His problem is more one of portion distortion, and making up for skipping lunch by eating a huge dinner.

The recipe I used is
, but there are a bunch of roasted brussels sprouts recipes on SparkRecipes, too.

Plans for today include shopping. I may count that as my walking for the day.

Thanks for giving a description for how brussels sprouts taste. I've always been nervous about trying them, but I like cabbage, so I'll give them a shot now emoticon

I am adding more veggies in as well to help curb my sugar/carb addition. brussels sprouts is one of those things that I haven't tried. I don't like cabbage at all, so I'm pretty sure that I won't ever try them, but great job for you in adding another one to your repertoire! emoticon

sleepy sleepy time for bed

Thursday, January 10, 2013

Decent day. Did my walk. Made mostly decent food choices. Didn't get enough fiber, still, but I'm working on it. Got an entire day's worth of school done and then some with the 6yo. Too tired to blog about much else. Ready for the weekend!

I started to sit down and write that this was the first moment I've just sat and did something that didn't have anything to do with homeschooling, chores, or weight loss. But then I decided to listen to Spark Radio. I'm listening to the segment about New Year's resolutions, and how they should be reasonable. I'm not a big one for resolutions, anyway, but I have made those kinds in the past...the "I won't drink Coke anymore ever, or I'm cutting out sugar entirely, or I will lose 100 pounds this year!" And 3 weeks in I ditch them because 1) they're too restrictive, or 2) the resolution of the goal is so far away that I lose sight of it completely.

So I'm not making those kinds of resolutions this year. Monthly goals instead. My goal for the month of January is to lose 4 pounds by the 29th which will be a pound a week. I'm already a pound down in the first week so yay, I'm 25 percent there!

Now, I'm REALLY going to relax for the half hour I have left before my 6yo's bedtime. No homeschool, chores, or weight loss stuff. And after that, I'm off to bed myself.

I agree - the monthly goals are so much easier to follow! Woohoo for being 25% of the way to your goal already.

Enjoy your relaxation and hopefully a good night's sleep for you!
