Long time no see.
I'm back. And I'm back....
I'm working each day (and it's a struggle) to make small changes.
I'm focusing myself this weekend on setting up for success for the coming week. Instead of being lazy, as usual, I NEED to take some time to work out, cook some healthy food, and organize/clean my apartment.
Today I ran. I went back to the beginning of C25K Week 1 Day 1, as new running shoes have forced me to re-train my muscles. I had gotten to week 6 previously in my old pair of shoes.
My main goal is to not be lazy this weekend and focus on working out once each on Saturday and Sunday. I plan to do Nike+ Training on my XBox Kinect, and then maybe some zumba or dancing game for a while for some easy cardio.
Sometimes I think making an intention, and making it public, can help motivate you to come through.

Week three wasn't a total failure for my goals!
I worked out three days either at the gym, in yoga class, or using the kinect, and walked to and from work three days (my walk is about .7 miles and usually takes me about 15 minutes). I feel good about my body and felt like I worked a lot of differing muscles. I added weight to my usual gym weight lifting cycle and really pumped it on the upper body.
I did eat out too often this week, however some of those options included a chicken salad sandwich on whole wheat, chili, and a really delicious Greek salad with beets, chicken, and oil and vinegar. Part of the problem with this past week is that I did absolutely no batch cooking on Sunday so I really had nothing to bring to work, and I ran out of eggs halfway through the week and ended up getting breakfast out too.
Today I worked to set myself up for success food wise this week by grocery shopping and batch cooking! Today I am making a raw kale & brussel sprout salad with a Dijon mustard vinaigrette, a skinny baked mac and cheese (uses broccoli and low fat cheese with whole wheat protein pasta), and an cous cous super salad with broccoli, asparagus, cilantro, garlic, almonds, cucumber, avocado, feta, and a lemon vinaigrette. Yum!
Already got off to a good start for the week by getting in 53 fitness minutes today and burning over 400 calories! I did a combination of running, gym games, cardio boxing, jump rope, and dance classes with the kinect. Time flew by and I had no idea I'd been at it that long!j
So far over the course of the month, I've gained two pounds, but I'm not letting that get me down. I know I'm taking it one day at a time and trying to make good decisions, so in time, things will come!
Here's to the last week of January being a success! Maybe I can get back to the weight where I started the month!

I failed at pretty much all of my goals during the second week of January. I got super busy at work and didn't work out but only one day - and that was my low key yoga class.
I ate out WAY too much due to having little time to prep meals, and feeling like I wanted to eat crap.
As a result, I gained two pounds!
I'm back on track so far this week. I'm working to get myself up earlier in the mornings, and plan my workouts based around my work schedule. If I have to work late, I need to do so before work. If I don't have to work late, I can get myself to the gym after work.

Because you should always choose to make good changes in your life any time of the year, it shouldn't be based on the change in an arbitrary number in a calendar that was invented by man. However, it always seems after the holidays (and one of the busiest times of the year for me at work) that I should get back on track since I have a bit more time to devote to making food and exercising.
That being said, I am trying again with setting goals for myself (daily, weekly, and monthly), using a calendar to keep track of those goals, and hopefully regularly blogging about my progress.
My weekly & monthly goals this month are to:
- Work out at least 5 days a week
- Drink 8 glasses of water a day
- Only eat out twice for lunch and twice for dinner, the rest are healthy packed meals for lunch and dinner at home
- No more cigarettes! I wasn't a smoker, just enjoyed one occasionally. NO MORE!
- Do my nails nightly and care for them more. One of my rewards is to have a manicure
- Blog every Sunday about my weeks and how I did.
So this first week, I worked out Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday. I took a break on Friday due to tiredness & soreness, and because I went out to dinner and a movie. I also am taking a break today, Sunday, because the workout I did yesterday involved a lot of squats and strength training with cardio, and my entire lower body is HURTING. I did work some good muscles though as I can feel soreness in the muscles around and above my knee, which need to be strengthened from a knee injury. Monday is my yoga day, so I look forward to a good stretch!
I had a little bit of candy at work - damn NERDS, but didn't go overboard. The boyfriend and I ate out on Friday night for dinner to celebrate some good things happening at my job and we had lunch out on Saturday at Findlay Market while shopping for some yummies to make for the week. I also had a glass of red wine on Friday night and two glasses of rum & vodka with apple cider drinks on Saturday. I should drink less next week!
Looking ahead to week two - I hope my soreness goes away quickly so I can keep at exercising. I'll go to yoga on Monday, and to the gym on Tuesday.
Sidenote: I have a kinect for xbox and the Your Shape Fitness Evolved game will KICK YOUR ASS. It's got tons of different types of workouts, but it's really good at incorporating strength training into cardio and it makes it easy to work out at home. I'm lucky to have this opportunity! However, I'm still alternating that with going to the gym and doing ellipticals, weight machines, and hopefully more swimming in the pool.
Maybe the weather will continue to be mild so I can ride my bike to work sometime this week!

This week went pretty well for me overall. I am sick this weekend, so I haven't worked out the past 3 days since I'm trying to give my body some rest and recovery time.
However - I DID hit my calorie burned goal before I got sick for the first time in forever! I kicked butt at the gym and worked with my kinect at home. While at the gym I did two week one C25K sessions and it felt really good!
I only ate out a few times this week - not great foods unfortunately, I've really got to get better at that. Then while being sick this weekend I haven't been eating horribly, but I did make some bangin' chocolate chip cookies that my bf and I have now consumed in their entirety. ;)
I'm hoping this week I can nip this cold in the bud and get back to fitness focused.
I made some crockpot chili today that will be a nice healthy thing to eat at work this week!
