Volunteering at school again

Tuesday, August 19, 2014

My volunteering at the Christian school starts tomorrow and I'm tired just thinking about it. It means getting up early, driving 30 minutes to the school, coming up with two art projects every week. Then I have to drive my Mum to her place 30 minutes farther away and spend an hour with her before I get on the overcrowded freeway to drive 45 minutes to our house. I know this is what the Lord wants me to do at this point in my life...I can't just exercise with beloved and have fun all day...I know we should be "giving back," and I know one day I wont be having Mum to be a caregiver to..but. Maybe tomorrow morning I'll feel more excited!

Just finished a 30 mile ride!

Friday, August 15, 2014

Beloved and I just finished a bike ride along the beautiful river of Greenville, SC. We were on our tandem so I had to pedal twice as hard as I usually do just to keep up the pace. Lots of hill work, my legs are barking now. I should sleep really well tonight! He wants to go out again Sunday and I'm game!

my dear friend died, two months after diagnosis

Monday, August 11, 2014

In June I told about my friend who went to doctors for TWO YEARS trying to figure out why she was having left flank pain and light blood in her urine. For two years she was patronized by health care providers and excuses were made that "she took a baby aspirin a day for her heart", or that she "had muscle pain from working so hard as a school nurse." She was an RN with an MSN so she knew what should be considered abnormal! Finally, after collapsing, a doctor did agree with her that a CT would be good, but only because he thought she might have a ruptured disc. It came back as a massive kidney cancer, so large surgery couldn't be done. She died suddenly last night just 2 months after a proper diagnosis.
Know your own body. PUSH for the healthcare you need and INSIST on necessary tests. I am a retired RN and I know how some people fall between the cracks...but this was my best friend...

So sorry for your friend, her family and you. HUGS and hope you have lots of memories to help you when you need them. I am so sorry as this was probably totally unnecessary if caught on time.

I am so sorry about your friend, but am glad you posted the warning about pushing to get a diagnosis when you know something is wrong.

I am so sorry about your friend. Unfortunately unless you push hard with some members of the medical community you get patronized and wrong diags or non diagnosis. emoticon
