The Christmas Weight is Already Shedding Away.

Monday, January 07, 2013

I did my first weigh in last week on Dec. 30th and today I did my first official "diet" weigh in. I've lost 4 lbs since last week just by getting back to my regular eating schedule. It's a good thing Christmas is only once a year.

Finished My First Workout!

Monday, January 07, 2013

emoticon I just finished my first Turbo Jam workout. I've always wanted to try kickboxing so I thought it would be an interesting series to try; keeping with my new years resolution to choose fun workouts in order to ward off the dreaded burnout. Today's actual workout was only about 16 minutes since I started with the Learn & Burn video, but I'm pleasantly surprised that I didn't get bored. I've tried workout videos several times over the years and I can never stick with them because I'm bored within 5 minutes. Can't wait to try it again tomorrow. Although it didn't look incredibly hard in the previews, I can definitely see it's going to kick my butt once I get to the more intense workouts.

2012 Resolution = Success!

Saturday, January 05, 2013

I'm usually the negative type; always focusing on my failures rather than my success. I know it's a terrible thing to do, but it's a hard habit to break sometimes. Especially when it comes to self image and weight because a lot of times others aren't so kind either. For the past few days I've been sad about all my failures from last year, among them, ending another year without reaching my weight loss goals.

Tonight, however, I realized something. I actually achieved my health related resolution for 2012! Last year instead of generalizing by saying I'm going to diet or lose weight, I broke my health and fitness resolutions into smaller goals. Last years main resolution was to drink more water.

At the beginning of 2012 I was drinking about 6 cans of soda and an average of 4 ounces of water a day, mostly from the glass of water on my nightstand. I thought that is not acceptable in any from of the word so my main resolution was to consistently drink 8 glasses a day by the end of the year. January didn't see much change, but it somehow kicked in around February and by the 2nd week I was consistently drinking 6 glasses every day. Wasn't 8, but it was a major change and I was proud of the effort. It didn't take long though. By March I was up to 8 glasses per day, and by May, 10 glasses. Finally ending the year off by upping my count to 12 per day, every day, no matter what. I did not miss one day since the day in February that I decided to make the change.

Somewhere along the way my goal changed from 8 glasses to 15 glasses. (Because that's what is recommended for my weight range.). I'm still at 12 but this year looks promising. Also, at some point it became so ingrained into my life that I forgot it was a resolution, and my soda intake dropped to around once a week. I lost the desire for it, and it was replaced with the occasional homemade decaf sweet tea (Which comes to 60 calories per glass.)

My body got so used to actually being hydrated that now I don't feel well without reaching my goal for the day. There are still some days that I'm busy and get most of my water intake in the evening, and I feel it throughout the day. There are also days where I hate the sight of it as well; that I feel like if I have to ever drink water again I'll lose it. I power through though, and I don't allow myself to give into those feelings because so far they've been temporary.

Through all my pity parties this is a thing I can remember and be proud of, and pat myself on the back. It was a seemingly small change that made a big difference. As a result I lost around 15 lbs throughout the year, with absolutely no dieting or exercise (What they say about replacing soda with water really is true!), my complexion as cleared a lot, and although I could still use some improvement I feel a noticeable change in my energy and stamina.

My health resolution for 2013 is to set an exercise schedule filled with things I'll actually enjoy doing so I won't burn out easily, and stick to it as much as possible.

Thank you for reading my probably unnecessarily long post about water drinkage. Happy new year and good luck with all of your goals!

Great job and thanks for sharing! I started to exercise a couple of months ago (after a VERY long break) and found it helpful to include some variety in activities so I wouldn't get bored. After the first week, I started feeling more energized and am really grateful that I took that (big!) step to start exercising. Good luck with your goals for 2013!
