My Life chapter 3

Monday, April 19, 2010

My husband and I bought 3 house and he fixed them up while working full time. He fixed 1 up and we moved into that one. I was working out of the home but when we received the girls I stopped. I stayed home but started to sell Avon while they where in school. Henry came home ate dinner and then went next door and worked on the house. Through the years we bought 2 other homes next to use. Out older daughter moved out and went to live with her mother. During inflation I started a group called Stop Inflation Now and taught people how to conserve electric and heating oil. How to buy groceries and other items and save money. I had people come in and talk to the group and it helped people during a very trying time in our country. As I was doing that we where buying food from factories and meat companies. Some of the people asked if they could get the food through us and we said okay. One day my husband and neighbor came home to a blizzard with $2000.00 worth of frozen meats that they went to New Jersey for when the sun was out. We had to put it on the porch which was not closed in and try and get people to come and get their food. We decided after that if we where going to do that we better make arrangement, so that became Tull's Grocery Store and we enclosed half the porch it was L shaped, put in freezers and refrigerator, shelves and brought in milk, bread and whatever we could get our hands on. We under sold the big grocery stores and 1 of them when I went in to buy because they had specials by the case they told me they didn't want me in their store. Their lost not mine. We did that for about 8 years and during that time I also ran a Day Care for about 8 years. I started the Day Care before I had the store and after I closed it we went into Foster Care. We had 23 children in our home in a time frame of 7 years. One day they called me and ask if I would take another child and I said yes. They brought this dear little 2 week old girl and she was beautiful. Well, time to stop more tomorrow.

Wow, you're use to doing hard work and a lot of it. That's very neat. So, do you still have the 2 yo? I know, she wouldn't still be 2, but do you still have her?

My Life Chapter 2

Sunday, April 18, 2010

After my surgery and recovery I moved out on my own at 20 years old. My efficacy apartment which was really cute cost me $65.00 a month and I made $65.00 a week in a luggage factory. It was old hate 1 weeks pay was for rent and we could do that then, but I doubt many can do that now. After a while I changed jobs and was a professional dancer. I could do all the dances of the 50's and 60's. Remember Nancy Sinatra and "These boots are made for walking", well those boots where made for walking. I stop wearing the brace and could wear a pair of white boots like Nancy's and no one knew I had anything wrong with my leg. Funny thing is I have know people for 40 years and they don't know anything unless they come to my home and I am walking bare foot. Later in years they made an nice brace that fit inside your shoe so no one saw it and that is what I wear when I go out. I found that I could wear 2 1/2 to 3 inch heels and walk perfect. I knew how to hide flaws and still do. Well, back to the story I danced and taught dancing and just started to work my way down Route 13 in Delaware. I worked my way right to my husband of 36 years. I was being interviewed for a job and he was with the gentleman talking to me. He sat there and hardly looked at me and said nothing ,just a quiet country farm man. I thought to myself, "he was a funny duck", and I took the job. He worked at the same place and the more I saw him and learnt about him, I told one of the girl's, "I'm going to marry him", and she flipped. How do you know that she asked and I just did. I saw what a good, security minded, respectable person he was and wasn't to bad looking either. 2 years later we where married and 2 weeks after I had a 5 year old and 11 year old daughter. He had 2 girls and we raised them. I started to work in a restaurant that was a big ship as a hostess and bartender, my husband worked at Dupont's. Next chapter tomorrow

My Life

Saturday, April 17, 2010

I will start to tell you about me. I was the next to the oldest of 8 children and my sister and I where just a year difference. There was 5 girls and 3 boys and we still have 4 girls and 3 boys. My older sister died when she was 51. Mom and Dad are both gone. When I graduated I had a cyst behind my right knee and went in the hospital to have surgery. That was the turning part of my life. I wanted to be an Airline Stewardess but when I came out of surgery my leg did not act right. They said wait 24 hours and see what will happen. What happen was the Dr. cut 4 inches of the tipeial and another main nerve I can't think of right at this moment. The leg was paralyzed from the knee down, only about 25 % feeling and drop foot. Only good part was I had feeling on the bottom of my foot. 3 surgeries later and 135 pounds to 110 at 5' 7" was not cool I was sent home. I put my life back together the best I could and had to wear a brace. People kind of shy away from you when you wear a brace and it was the old kind that the post went into the heel of the shoe. I would break it and have to stop at the welders and have them weld it back together. Next chapter tomorrow and it is not that bad.

I know what you mean about people staring. I'm totally blind, and so carry a white cane. I do a lot, and people who know me don't get fazed, but sometimes strangers do. God bless you for what you do.

I am going to invent other ways to exercise when I am outside planting flowers and things in my garden. I swim and exercise in the pool and I will start that in May after I open the pool. I have a large yard and walk around it about 5 times and my dogs follow but the little one ends up on the deck after 1 time. I walk around the yard and up and down the deck steps to get in 2 exercises. I am putting in a bowling alley in my yard so I can get exercise that way too. How many things can you do in your yard. Can you give me any new ideals?

It is fun having children around because they can keep you so active. It is fun teaching them things also.
