It's been awhile

Wow- I've been MIA for 3 weeks now from Spark and normal life, but I'm back. It felt great to be home doing all my normal stuff today including a workout.
After working 12 out of 14 days, the boys and I took a week off for camping. Nothing like a week in the woods to clear your head and revive your spirit!! We all came home a little browner, with a few more bug bites than before, and grateful for our beds.
I looove our state! There are so many great places that I never get tired of visiting.

Okay, on to the important part, how am I doing? I haven't weighed in a month, and quite honestly don't plan on it until next week. I don't think I'll be up any. I've done well with moderation and getting my water. The hardest part was sticking to my exercise routine. It's too hot to run so I've moved it inside on the gazelle when I'm not mowing, hiking, or swimming. My schedule was so crazy the past few weeks that I just couldn't exercise the 4-5 times a week I've been use to, but I did what I could.

Now, I'm back to my routine! What a difference in me.... I knew those 3 weeks OUT would be hard to stick to my regiment, but I've also learned that it'll be okay. That I can trust myself to do well most days and get back to my routine as soon as possible. Those things were always impossible before.

It's good to be back. I'm looking forward to a summer of special projects and little trips, but I'm also looking ahead to my next half marathon and the training schedule that starts in September.

I hope y'all missed me. I missed you.

    Where did you go camping? DH and I just got back from a MONTH of traveling/camping and I know what you mean about the routine going out the window!

In July we are going to take a couple of weeks to go up around Fayetteville; a part of the state we've not spent much time in. We'll do the Crystal Bridges museum, and walk the trails at Devil's Den State Park. We'll probably stay at Beaver Lake.

I love Arkansas too! Where is your background photo taken at?

I'm not much on camping. Mostly because of living where I live. My idea of a camping trip would involve the ocean and a beach.

What I've Done Right (this week)

Goodness, where does the time go? I've not been doing these reports weekly for the past month- on purpose. I've reflected on it weekly, but didn't feel like blogging about it.
However, I do want to keep this line of thought going, and I love hearing back from my SparkFriends so here goes the next installment.

According to my SP ticker, I am in my 7th week of maintenance. That feels great especially since making good choices is just almost second nature now. This is big success for someone who was raised on fried potatoes and sweet tea! I no longer automatically reach for the worse foods!

Last week, "Lenagolightly" challenged us to eat 5 fruits/veggies each day of the week. That's a hard one for me, but I managed to pull it off 4 of those 5 days. The day I missed was a "busy- gone from sunup to sundown- working" kind of day. There just wasn't much eating going on at all that day.

I'm maintaining a 5 day/week workout schedule. I won't be running another half marathon until December so it's been very nice to mix up my workouts a bit- hiking, biking, running, and mowing!

I have inspired my dh to cut down his soda intake and increase his vegetable intake. YA! He's healthy as a horse, but there's no need to wait until you start losing your health to take care of yourself. Through nothing more than "being an example", he decided that he could make some better choices also. He's been doing this for a month and lost 7 lbs. I didn't even know he had 7 lbs to lose.

Now, for the heavy... the last week of life handed me some of the hardest things I have ever dealt with (and I have dealt with some stuff in my life, who hasn't?).
The victory- I didn't resort to food to numb the pain, to ease the anxiety, or to lift my spirits!!!!!!! I didn't just give up and throw in the towel on taking care of me.
I tell you one thing about living through enough fires is that you come to know "you will get through this one too". I have stayed the course... kept my body active and kept feeding it the right things.

So here I am today- an emotionally-wiped out, middle-aged woman with too much to do in one day, BUT still stronger and healthier than I have ever been in my life thanks to my God who never lets me go and always tries to steer me in the right direction. Sparkpeople was definitely one of those right directions.

Keep Sparking, Friends. Life is a journey not a destination.

    I've been doing the same things this week as I did last week. Not much changes here on the farm which is just how I like it. I've hit a plateau on my weight line and have been trying to change my diet a bit, eating more veggies and fruit and making a concerted effort to drink more water. That is my biggest challenge......getting 8 glasses of water a day down my throat. Blah!

Gonna Be Absent for a Bit

Are you like me? I can't stand the day before vacation- ARGHH!! All the prep work, and all the anticipation is killer. Plus, hubby is having a horrible day at work so I just feel so bad for him that it's bringing me down. I obviously need to get a grip on myself!!

For the first time since we had kids, hubby and I are going on vacation without the kids. emoticon I still can't believe that we're doing it, but we are!! We're celebrating our 20th anniversary so I think we're due.

I've got an afternoon of yardwork (which is just what I need today). Then I can finish packing tonight. So don't look for me next week. I'll be in the Ozarks doing some of my favorite things with my favorite person- fishing, horseback riding, ziplining, museums, dancing, flea markets.... I'm outta here!! Y'all take care and have a great week.

What I've Done Right

Oh Hallelujah, even though we had a mild winter, it is pretty much over. Spring has sprung. The daffodils are everywhere. The tulip trees have started to bloom. I even had an iris bloom over the weekend. I love, love, love Spring.

The past week was interesting. After working for over a year to reach the goal of running the half marathon, it felt odd to have that one "under my belt". I have learned enough about myself to know I have to keep goals set or else I get laaazzzy. So...

1. I've set my next half marathon for December. That'll give me the kick I need after the heat of summer to get serious about running again.

2. I'm going to count it as an accomplishment that I wasn't really sore last week after the Half. Yes, my body was tired once I'd finished, but nothing was sore by Monday morning. I owe that to good training.

3. My husband who works a very physical job and wouldn't have time to train for a long running event decided that as much as he loves cheering us on he wants a piece of the action. So he's decided to run a few 5ks with the family this year. That will be fun. His 6'3" self will probably be able to walk and stay at the same pace as my short-legged run!
He and the boys have also been inspired to start doing set-ups and push-ups every night. I made them a funny chart and cheer them on!

4. I decided to start waking up earlier which I've done for the past week. That will help me run a little later into the season as it gets hot quick around here.

5. Lastly, I've been thinking of yoga for some time. I started with a yoga DVD this morning before I ran. I'm looking forward to it. It'll help to keep me focused through the heat of summer.

Seems to be a theme going on here. I love the Spring, but down here we can't help but dread the heat that is just around the corner. Last summer, I didn't do so well at exercising throughout those months. So I'm setting new goals for myself to stay on track this year.

    If I recall you are under the age of 50, right? I only mention it because I do Yoga twice a week at the Hays Center. It really made a difference in my flexibility and strength! I love how it makes me center on myself and push other thoughts out of my head. It keeps me focused and is so rewarding!

    Roxanne, I love all the things you've done right!! Congrats on have such great success with your half marathon! That's wonderful! I agree that setting goals and sticking to them are really important to keep making progress and not get lazy.

Over the last few days, I have done a few things right. First, I have stayed away from candy. I've also been working through some old emotional baggage that was part of the weight gain in the first place. It feels really great to let go of that and be free!
