suggesting sparkpeople

Monday, August 06, 2012

I am on another site called “the daily challenge” and one for my connections just posted that she an alcoholic and is has been sober for 17 days now and was asking for support.
I sent her this:
I have a connection Angelina R., last week she posted she just celebrated her 3 year of sobriety. Look her up if you are interested.
I am sure she would be glad to cheer you on too. She is great- lives in Alaska, with parrot's and her husband has to leave for weeks at a time for his job.

Good for you for taking control of your life! Addictions are bad in so many ways- however once you acknowledge that you do have a problem and want to improve your life there are so many people who will support you in every day.
It does sound like you have wonderful people in your life and even better it sounds like you really like your life.
There are no guarantees about life. Life is for LIVING! So go live! Celebrate each new day.
Some where on spark people I saw a line that said “Life is for living-not just existing”. I can't find it now but it has a motivation page with all kinds of statements. It just hit me at the right time- I have just existed in so many ways. I have been sacrificing my life for inconsequential things. I am going to stop doing that.

I joined spark people and have just now have been getting into it. It is 'for weight loss' but in actuality it prompts Healthy LIVING! By taking control of your life and being accountable. There are many tools on there to help in the journey. you can track things you ate, exercising and many other actions. You can make up some specifically for you and your situation. There are many people on it and there are also many different 'teams' you can join to focus on things your interested in.
I am new there- and this one guy, marathondad, keeps 'liking' things I have posted. I have thanked him- but I am going to do it again because it really matters. It gives me inspiration. He doesn't always post anything but 'likes' it! I get a message that someone likes what I did or posted with thumbs up. It is amazing how much that means. I don't know how he has the time but I appreciate it!
I am crying right now. I really didn't know how much it meant to have that extra support.

The most amazing thing about spark people is that so many do not leave after they have completed their goal. They stay on and encourage others to succeed because they know how important it is to succeed and they want to help you.

They have several with your challenge. : AA,
Friends In Recovery (for sobriety), depends on what word you put into the search for teams. Most don't have a lot of members. (By a lot I mean thousands). The ones I saw had double and triple digests. It truly is a great community!

Here is my link: http://www.sparkpeople.com/myspark/registe
r.asp?from=friend&ReferredBy=9551964

You get 10 points for asking a friend to join. The points are cool. On there you can ‘send ‘goodies’ Like: teddy bears, sunshine, peace signs, High five, WTG all kinds of fun positive things.

I just can't tell you how this support system has helped me so far. But I can feel it already. This time I am going to succeed in my goal to get healthy and be happy doing it!

I am leaving for vacation Monday but will be checking in. I just don't know how much I will be on line with the daily challenge. I will hit the 'done' every day if you want to join me in a pact~ “

Under the weather

Saturday, August 04, 2012

I am not feeling well. I went to the health and wellness center on Thursday and after 110 minutes walked out with three medications.

Hopefully they will kick in soon. I seem to get this once a year but I have never had it in the summer before. Pounding headache/sinus pressure, cough sometime major coughing, heavy and wheezing lungs. I have not caught it early in the past and have ended up with walking pneumonia. I always think it is just a cold so try and treat it myself. I am glad I went in this early time . If I wasn't leaving for vacation on Sunday I probably would have put it off and then been in trouble.
I am O.K. most of the day and could work but I do not sleep at night. So I am taking sick days before my vacation. Depleting my sick day balance once again. Boy I hate wasting sick days for being sick. I really would like to save them up in case of an family emergency or I have to have surgery.

I always start the year off wanting to have perfect attendance. In 10 years it has never worked out. Perfect attendance included not being tardy. In the winter with roads not being plowed it is hard to get there on time. I have to leave at 5:30 am in the winter.

Now... onward to hopefully get some sleep!
I can do some light walking right now but I want to do more! But if I get to hot I really cough and that is NOT a good thing.

If I would have perfect attendance I would get an extra 2 days off paid the next year. THAT IS WORTH A LOT! Almost $200 and more importantly extra time off! They also have drawings every quarter for perfect attendance and you receive $500. Now That would be awesome. It is a super big department so the odds are not good for wining.

Life Will Not Be Sacrificed Any Longer!

Monday, July 30, 2012

I wanted to write a long blog today but since it is way past my bedtime already I'm not going to be able to do so.
Right there you have my problem. It's always too late!!Something always takes longer to do or something comes up and I don't get to bed when I need to.

I've been wanting to get up in the morning and do it but that requires getting to bed earlier.
Well that just wasn't happening either-getting to bed at a reasonable time.
So I challenged myself to set the alarm and just get up and do it.
And I did it and it felt great! It was only 10 minutes but the important thing is that I did it.

So I just decided I would start setting my alarm five minutes earlier each day and make myself get up.
Eventually I'll get to the point where I have to go to bed at a time to be able to do this.

What prompted me for this challenge? It was a statement at the end of one of my emails from coach Nicole. Which said something to the effect: "make working out in the morning easier- sleep in your workout clothes."

Well I'm not going to do that because I've recently just started sleeping in my underwear. I think it does the body good not to have clothes confining it all the time. It needs to breathe.

I am one who needs plenty of sleep and I have sacrificed a lot of things to sleep. While writing this I started thinking about the things I've sacrificed or that I was sacrificing.
Then I had pivotal moment!
I realized I was sacrificing my life. And that was just too big of a price to pay.

You need sleep for your body to repair and rejuvenate. This is as important just as good nourishment and water is.
But like most things-- too much is not always good.

I was not changing my bedtime to fit my priorities so my priorities were falling to the wayside. So I'm changing around how I'm doing thing.

My priorities have to come first- which does includes sleep.
So other things in my life at the moment have to take a backseat.
I've been spending way too much time reading and and responding online.
So until I can get something figured out where I can do both at the time my computer time will be sacrificed.

So the length of time spent on things not necessary (like being on the computer for hours every day) will be sacrificed.

My life is necessary and will NOT be sacrificed any longer!

I struggle with the same problems. Something always seems to interfere with getting to bed early and then I can barely crawl out of bed in time to get ready for work. Exercising before work seems impossible, when the snooze button is readily available. I just might have to try the five minutes at a time technique myself.

You definitely have the right frame of mind. Keep up the great attitude and hard work and I know that you will succeed!

I find articles and blogs I would like to save to my favorites. Many times I can not find the 'save to favorites button'.
Wrote and asked for advice but haven't heard anything yet. Anyone have any ideas?

There are so many wonderful articles available- and there are just some you would like available to easily find.

I have many past emails I am looking at after doing the email for today.
I regret I didn't keep up with spark after I first joined so I am trying to make up for lost time in catching up with news.

If you have any special articles you would like to share with me- include a link please!

Sometimes you have to really look, but I've always been able to find the 'Save' option to get these good articles saved to my favorites. There is so much wonderful info that you can get lost in it!! Best of luck! emoticon

Sweet Tooth Challenge (STC) week 1, blog 2

Friday, July 27, 2012

Well- not getting three in this week but that is ok. It has been a busy week for me because I had family in the area from Tennessee that I drove and hour each way to see on two different days. Plus drove to Indianapolis one day and worked 5 days.
Some days I did really good by not having products with any added sugar (that I know of) other days I had a small amount - like to day I had 2 fresh baked PB cookies. they were small. and I love PB and the protein it gives me.
I haven't cut everything out but I didn't have any candy this week or pop and some days I didn't have anything on the sweet side at all so I consider myself doing good.!
