Spark is not a diet-- but a life plan

Saturday, August 25, 2012

I wrote this on my daily challenge A(which is a small challenge to accomplish everyday to improve your well-being). Someone asked what was spark when I wrote I had been more active on this site.

My spark I do is the spark people web site. I JUST LOVE IT! and the more I do the most I love it. It says it is a diet plan. BUT IT IS NOT. It is a life plan and you plan it!. it has information, resources, video. IT IS FREE. which is amazing for all that it provides. and spark friends. I am not sure what is more valuable. the information, trackers or the support from other spark people. When it comes down to it I would say... in that order. TO START WITH. now that I have become more active in giving myself a healthy life the tracker are helping me but the support from the spark friends means so much. some people are really busy- have finished the tough part of getting to there goals but still stay active to help motivate others. that truly impresses me. I get tears in my eyes when I think of some of my spark friends because they take time out of there busy lives to make a difference to others. It really mean something to me when they like or comment on something I have written or done.

ter.asp?from=friend&ReferredBy=9551964.
you get points for things and get to use them to give yourself and others little (or big) goodies. they are just virtual but- they actually mean something to people on here.
I don't have many regrets but I wish I gotten active when I first found it. then again maybe the time was not right for me then but is now. I am just glad it is making a positive difference in my life!

A new sign of ageing and I need advice (it is not what you think)

Friday, August 24, 2012

This is not what I was going to blog about but it is the main thing on my mind right now.

There are many signs of aging. I have several and have had them for some time now and neither have made me be sad or upset. Those are wrinkles and white hair. Is bruising more easily another one? I seem to have that more also.

I just found one and I am not happy about it and I am wondering if there is anything I can do about it. I looked down at my forearm and saw a blood blister. I think that is what it is called.
My mom seems to get them a lot. Don't know when I got it or how I got it. Is it caused by your skin getting thinner?

The reason I am so upset about it is because I am a picker. While that is not necessarily a bad thing- I tend to scar easily which THAT makes it a bad thing. Plus when I pick and pick I tend to get Keloids or Hypertrophic scars which I do not like.

Any one have suggestions on what I can do to help my skin not get these? If I don't have them I won't be tempted to 'pick' at them.

Just questions. Advice welcome!

For better, for worse, I'm addicted to Wikipedia....

The entry for blood blisters didn't say anything about increasing with age. In fact, it mentioned where professional pitchers usually get them.

There was a link to cherry (hem)angioma, which does seem to be age related:
http://en.wikipedia.org
/wiki/Cherry_hemangioma

"The underlying cause for the development of cherry angiomas is not understood, much because of a lack of interest in the subject. "... probably because they're not dangerous.

If this is what you have, it doesn't sound like they go away on their own, but they can be removed. (My daughter was born with a type of hemangioma that's basically gone now, but left a puffy patch of skin.)

I'd stick with the blood blister theory--and claim it's like the pitchers. You're just so active, your skin can't keep up. :-)

I don't know about the skin issue... but I've been noticing several white hairs lately and it's bugging the heck out of me. I am only 33 years old! =(

I asked two Dr.s why my arms are like that! I hate it! They did say aging, the skin gets thinner. My arms are the worst- I just bump something and it bleeds underneath. My husband accidentally scratched my arm with his fingernail while walking out a door and there it happened again. I can't even carry a purse on my arms anymore or I will look awful. Mine doesn't look like blisters. My one Dr. suggested taking vitamins that help the skin (A) and blood (K). It may help, but I don't know....haven't tried it yet - he just told me recently.
Growing old sure isn't for sissies! It is hard! emoticon

2nd Nike walk

Tuesday, August 21, 2012

I didn't add any jogging today so my time wasn't as good. I kept up a good pace. Sang with music the first half and talked on the phone the second half!
I feel good! It was a beautiful day for a walk!

Those of you that read this on Tuesday night.
Andy Grammar is supposed to be on Jimmy Kimmel tonight. He used to room with a good friend of mines cousin, Justin. He wrote his next single after Justin broke up with his girl friend.
It is cool to know the story behind songs. I was lucky enough to see him in concert at ND this past spring. He was by himself and was fantastic!

1ST Nike Run

Monday, August 20, 2012

Did my first walk/jog with the Nike Run+ App. Sunday afternoon.
So fun!
Told me when I got to one mile- how fast I did, then 2 miles...
mapped my whole route. Asked how I felt after.

I did it with my granddaughter Elizabeth. She fell asleep half way through.

I was going to use it to plan a blog but I didn't. spend the first half singing to her and the second just thinking. It was such a beautiful afternoon!

I just LOVED IT!

I had read a blog about walking outside vs the treadmill earlier today.
Walking outside IS so much more!

I'm just getting back to jogging outside instead of on the treadmill (which broke through overuse--yay!). The more I do it, the more I can't quite remember why I decided I don't like running outside....

suggesting sparkpeople

Monday, August 06, 2012

I am on another site called “the daily challenge” and one for my connections just posted that she an alcoholic and is has been sober for 17 days now and was asking for support.
I sent her this:
I have a connection Angelina R., last week she posted she just celebrated her 3 year of sobriety. Look her up if you are interested.
I am sure she would be glad to cheer you on too. She is great- lives in Alaska, with parrot's and her husband has to leave for weeks at a time for his job.

Good for you for taking control of your life! Addictions are bad in so many ways- however once you acknowledge that you do have a problem and want to improve your life there are so many people who will support you in every day.
It does sound like you have wonderful people in your life and even better it sounds like you really like your life.
There are no guarantees about life. Life is for LIVING! So go live! Celebrate each new day.
Some where on spark people I saw a line that said “Life is for living-not just existing”. I can't find it now but it has a motivation page with all kinds of statements. It just hit me at the right time- I have just existed in so many ways. I have been sacrificing my life for inconsequential things. I am going to stop doing that.

I joined spark people and have just now have been getting into it. It is 'for weight loss' but in actuality it prompts Healthy LIVING! By taking control of your life and being accountable. There are many tools on there to help in the journey. you can track things you ate, exercising and many other actions. You can make up some specifically for you and your situation. There are many people on it and there are also many different 'teams' you can join to focus on things your interested in.
I am new there- and this one guy, marathondad, keeps 'liking' things I have posted. I have thanked him- but I am going to do it again because it really matters. It gives me inspiration. He doesn't always post anything but 'likes' it! I get a message that someone likes what I did or posted with thumbs up. It is amazing how much that means. I don't know how he has the time but I appreciate it!
I am crying right now. I really didn't know how much it meant to have that extra support.

The most amazing thing about spark people is that so many do not leave after they have completed their goal. They stay on and encourage others to succeed because they know how important it is to succeed and they want to help you.

They have several with your challenge. : AA,
Friends In Recovery (for sobriety), depends on what word you put into the search for teams. Most don't have a lot of members. (By a lot I mean thousands). The ones I saw had double and triple digests. It truly is a great community!

Here is my link: http://www.sparkpeople.com/myspark/registe
r.asp?from=friend&ReferredBy=9551964

You get 10 points for asking a friend to join. The points are cool. On there you can ‘send ‘goodies’ Like: teddy bears, sunshine, peace signs, High five, WTG all kinds of fun positive things.

I just can't tell you how this support system has helped me so far. But I can feel it already. This time I am going to succeed in my goal to get healthy and be happy doing it!

I am leaving for vacation Monday but will be checking in. I just don't know how much I will be on line with the daily challenge. I will hit the 'done' every day if you want to join me in a pact~ “
