SAS 24: Day 24 (Slow and Steady Challenge)

Tuesday, July 26, 2011

Yesterday went well for me until dinnertime. I walked before work, after work, and during lunch. I also ate well. So what exactly happened? I started to feel down and instead of reaching out for help I emotionally ate. I went over in calories by somewhere around 750. I didn't even bother to track dinner.

I felt awful afterwards and wanted to cry. I knew I let myself down. It wasn't necessary for me to do this. I picked myself up and posted in one of my team message boards on SparkPeople.com. I vented and made a promise to myself that I won't do this to myself again. I'm worth more than that.

I got up a little early this morning to leave early so I can do an hour long walk this morning. I'm feeling excited about that. I will walk after work as well. I'm unsure about lunch. I am definitely working out after work. I'm doing either a two mile or a three mile Leslie Sansone workout tonight. I've planned most of my food for the day so I'm feeling quite positive and encouraged. I know I can do this.

You sure can do this! One day at a time. One meal at a time. Be proud of yourself for not letting one bad night ruin your week. Big pat on the back for getting right back to the good stuff the next day. emoticon

I track my food even when I don't eat right. That way you can look back later if you need to and see if there is a certain pattern to your overeating.

I do appreciate all of the advice everyone and the support. I'm doing so much better now. I really needed to vent and let out all of my feelings. It's been a long journey for me and was feeling a bit impatient. I'm doing so much better and putting things in perspective.

SAS 23: Day 23 (Slow and Steady Challenge)

Monday, July 25, 2011

Yesterday I had a very lazy day. I didn't work out at all. I did do some cleaning in my room. I ate according to my new caloric range which feels a little odd. My exercise has increased so I needed to increase my calories. I'm at 1,890 calories minimum now. When eating healthy that can be quite a lot of food. When I think back to what I ate yesterday, I did eat a lot of food. I ate my fruit and veggies. I had the right level of carbs, protein, fiber, and fat.

I was fine not doing a lot of exercising yesterday. My body was telling me I needed a day off and I listened to it. I know today I will be quite active. I've scheduled a 45 minute walk before work which usually equals about 3 miles, a 30 minute walk during lunch which should be about 2 miles, and a 25 minute walk after work which equals about 1.5 miles. I also am planning to do a 30 minute Leslie Sansone DVD. Today will be the 2 mile Walk Away the Pounds for Abs. I love that one.

I plan to do well with my foods and not go over in calories. I'm feeling positive and very excited. Tomorrow I plan to try out pilates. I will be mixing this up this week to jumpstart my weight loss. I also plan to try out some new foods. I'm seriously thinking about trying hummus. I've never had it before. Wish me luck!

SAS 22: Day 22 (Slow and Steady Challenge)

Sunday, July 24, 2011

Yesterday I was out most of the day in the heat and made a big mistake. I ate a hearty breakfast and didn't pack any snacks. I did bring a bottle of water with me. I found that one bottle wasn't enough. By the time I got home I was very hungry and very thirsty.

I planned out my lunch and dinner. I found the lunch was satisfying. I made a big salad for dinner and I was still hungry after I ate it. I ended up going over my calories at end of the day. I have to watch what I eat today. I have to do better with planning if I will be away from home and not be near a place to eat. The hot weather certainly didn't help either. I did quite a bit of sweating.

Today I am continuing to rehydrate myself and I've been drinking Propel Zero to help with that. This morning I am relaxing and this afternoon I'm planning to do a pilates workout and do some cleaning around the house. I will also be careful with what I am eating today and make sure I eat smaller meals. I need to make sure I have my snacks between meals. I learned a bit lesson about planning ahead.

Thanks everyone for the great advice! For me I will likely aim for about 12 cups of water a day. I used to drink that much before and had no problems with it. I'm pretty active. I normally walk several miles a day outdoors and typically work out as well. I have to listen to my body mostly and drink enough water because I feel bloated like I'm retaining a bit of water. You guys rock! Thanks again!

You are doing and amazing job. I like to read your blogs, you are an inspiration to me. I am a diabetic and was surprised once when the nutritionist said to be sure and eat the number of carbs we could have for meals and snacks, that if we went under, we likely would binge.
You figured out what your downfall was and that is good. You spoke of increasing your water to 100 oz. We can poison ourselves with too much water. I do doubt though in this heat and humidity that more than 64 oz. will do much harm. I don't know at what point you get water poisoning.

It is interesting how the same foods eaten all at once aren't nearly as filling as spread out over the course of the day. The opposite is also true for me though too. If I don't ever eat a significant meal, I'm *always* hungry. It's all about balance and moderation, eh?

JUDITHWITHROW 7/24/2011 12:28PM

We learn from our mistakes and move on. Today is a new day. Preparation is key theme I see on SP. It is tough those times we get caught unprepared with no food or extra water.

I did great when I went "home" for my niece's wedding. Our first stop was the grocery store for healthy foods I could put in baggies and carry with me. I bought a cute thermal bag that looks like a purse. We went back to where we were staying and cut fruit, bagged up raw veggies and divided our snacks for the next 3 days.

I did great. When we came home, my mother-in-law came to visit. Again I planned ahead for our meals and outings. Then she did not go home on schedule. She stayed one more week. I had not planned that far and was caught unprepared. It was a week of restaurants and I didn't do so well.

So we "mess up", learn and make better choices next time.

Thanks for sharing your journey.

SAS 21: Day 21 (Slow and Steady Challenge)

Saturday, July 23, 2011

I can't believe I'm already three weeks into this challenge. It doesn't seem like it's been quite that long. I've been enjoying the challenge. I walked after work and had a great dinner. I got things ready for the big day.

Saturday is my weigh in day. I couldn't wait to see what I weighed. I've been doing some great workouts and eating pretty well. I did a 45 minute kickboxing routine and I really worked up a sweat.

I stepped on the scales and was surprised by what I saw. I had gained a pound over the last two weeks. I was disappointed by the results and then I talked to my sister about how I was feeling. She said it was likely water retention due to the extremely hot weather. I have been walking and exercising this week and it has been quite hot.

I thought about it and realized that she was right. It is highly unlikely I gained the weight any other way. I decided to increase my water intake to at least 16 glasses of water a day. I'm hoping that will stop the water retention. I'll keep up my exercise and I'll see what the scale says in two weeks.

I'm not feeling discouraged. I know I look great and I can see the difference in how I look. I'm going to keep up the good work I'm doing. I'm taking this slow and steady. This works for me.

Try some lemon in your water-it is a natural diuretic! I just squirt some in and it really does help. I gained 5 pounds over my vacation ( I know it was mostly due to all the sodium in the restaurant food) and in the first week I lost 4 1/2 pounds with the lemon in the water. Keep going! Never give up! emoticon

MISSLISA1973 7/23/2011 10:37PM

Another thing is to weigh yourself at the same time each week, and on the same scale. I have two weigh-in's. My "real" one at home on Sunday mornings as soon as I wake up, and my "Biggest Loser" contest one at work on Wednesday mornings. There is usually a 7-10 pound difference! Plus, if you weigh yourself later in the day, you'll probably weigh more than first thing in the morning. The scale is SO finicky! It can change a couple pounds in a day. Today's weight can be overly affected by last night's meal. You have a great attitude toward it, though. It's not week to week that matters so much, it's the overall downward trend we want to see. Keep up the Slow and Steady, fantastic work! Hooray you for all you've accomplished!

I had the same experience this week and I wondered if it was the heat. My weight stayed the same, even though my calorie differential shows I should have lost 2 pounds since the 11th when I last posted a loss. I am hoping things change this week.

Use a tape measure to measure results. The scale may not move but when you check with the tape measure you will have lost quite a few inches. This has happened to me. You may be gaining some muscle. I definitely wouldn't be too concerned. You are doing great.

SAS 20: Day 20 (Slow and Steady Challenge)

Friday, July 22, 2011

I really did well with my working out yesterday. I ended up walking to the train station last night. It was almost 100 degrees and I had my water and used an umbrella to help shield the sun's rays. I really need to get a parasol. When it came to eating I didn't do quite so well.

I had a turkey burger for lunch which was great. The french fries were not. They actually made me feel ill and heavy. Then at dinner time I had to individual cheese pizzas which wasn't bad. What was bad was the six caramel dipped shortbread cookies that I ate. They were an extra 420 calories that I really didn't have. I don't feel negatively about it. I've moved on. After all today is a new day.

I got up early and did a 30 minute workout. It was Leslie Sansone's 2 mile Power Walk with Friends. I really enjoy that one. As an advanced walker I used three pound handweights during the strength training sessions. I worked up a great sweat.

Today is starting off a little cooler because of possible thunderstorms. It will get hotter later. I plan to take advantage of the current weather and get in a walk on the way to work. I'm thinking of doing kickboxing after work tonight. It's a Friday after all and I really want to take advantage of that. I brought food for a healthy breakfast, lunch, and snacks.
