Lungs are protesting but the body is rejoicing!

Thursday, December 08, 2011

Finally feel good enough to go and walk/run! Not up to full speed and a complete run but I did run today! 3 miles! I would say 60% walking and 40% running. Woohoo!

My lungs were putting up a little protest but my body was all for it! So was my mind. I am a runner and I have got to run! Wow....how did this happen?

My son and I were talking about my race coming up on Saturday and how I would do since I have been sick. He said "Is it a 5K?" and I replied "Yeah it's just a 5K, I could do that in my sleep". Ha ha! I really have come along way.

You go girl! emoticon

Today's "Healthy Reflection"

Monday, December 05, 2011

A man who wants something will find a way; a man who doesn't will find an excuse.

- Stephen Dolley Jr

This is a great quote for me. I try very hard not to make excuses and do what needs to get done. Instead of listening to the reasons why I can't, I tell myself HOW I CAN!

"No excuses, only results"
I know when I am BSing myself. I've got the committee in my head telling me so.

I cannot run today, but I can do some resistance band exercises and light stretching.
Again, it starts with my choices.

Life in the slow lane.

Sunday, December 04, 2011

I have been in the slow lane this week and I don't like it. I have been fighting a cold and it is quite a battle. I thought I should just take it easy and let it take it's course. Rest would be good for me and maybe the rest would make the cold go easier and faster. Well it did not.

I have Asthma and I am very susceptible to Bronchitis. I know that I need to take it easy or I could be in trouble. I have lost my voice and I feel like doggie do-do. I did go for a nice easy hike yesterday for about 2 hours with my son and that was real nice. The sunshine and fresh air felt great.

I have a 5k coming up on Saturday and I wanted to try to PR but it looks like I may just have to settle for finishing. Oh well, I guess all things considered, "just finishing" isn't so bad.

Please pass the tissues. Sniffle.

Today I am a runner!!!!

Wednesday, November 23, 2011

The boss let us leave 45 minutes, Woohoo! What do I do with my extra time? I quick change my clothes and go run 3 miles while it is still daylight! Yes! I totally enjoyed my run on a cloudy, windy, cool and dreary, almost dark day. In fact, I enjoyed it so much that I was actually bummed that I had to stop running after 3 miles because it was getting dark and where I was running you mustn't be after dark.

I'm not sure when this happened to me but I AM A RUNNER!

I have also decided that I am going to train for a half marathon that is in September. I am open to any ideas or suggetsions to "get it done".

You go girl!!!!

Sounds like that awesome 10k time got to you ;) Really happy for you - can't think of a better way to end a race than to find out you've beat your expected time! Agree with the Hal Higdon recommendation for the half. You can absolutely do it!

I ran my first 10k race!!!

Saturday, November 19, 2011

Don't ask me how I did it. I have to say this about that, IT WAS THE WORST RUN that I ever had!!!!!

BUT, I did it! I started out feeling pretty good even though I was tired from events of the day before and a lack of sleep. I was about a mile in and I started getting side stitches that lasted for 2.5 - 3 miles. But my leags felt good. My breathing was out of control and I kepy hearing that little voice telling me "I can't make it". Oye, I hate that voice.

I actually stopped at the half-way point and had a sip of water hoping that I could recover fast and get going again and be okay. Well, that didn't wotk. My stomach got so tight that I thought I was going to vomit. But my legs felt good. I just kept moving forward and then I heard someone say you only have a little over a mile to go. "OMG, I can't make it". Yes you can. No you can't. Yes you can. No you can't. You do it!! You can do it!!!

UGH! I looked up and saw the hill and suddenly felt a head wind that I thought would knock me down. I could not run the whole way up the hill. (Bummer) Once I reached the top of the hill and looked out on the horizon and saw the steeple of the church that I started at I mentally felt like "Yes, I can finish". My body was arguing the point though. I just kept running.

As I got closer to the finish line I could see the time and I thought "How the hell did I do that?" I woulda bet money that I was over my goal time of 70 minutes and I was actually under it! I crossed the line at 63:40. Yahoo!!!! 2nd place in my age group!!

Push your limits to go beyond them!!!! Do not stay where you are.
