It gets lonely out there

Monday, January 10, 2011

This weekend I realized for the first time how lonely taking care of yourself can be. I had "Plan A" and "Plan B" with others for hiking as well as back-up plans. But for multiple reasons all the plans fell through and I was on my own, again.

The snow was a very visual reminder that I was alone. The person before me was alone also. I would have plenty of choices for company if I wanted to go shopping or sit and watch a movie. But I know I must exercise for my own physical and mental well being.

On the other hand, I have met a lot people through my exercise pursuits. I have developed some friendships with people I would have never met otherwise. I am very happy about that.

I guess the other footprints and ski tracks are really just friends that I haven't met yet.

Get out there and find your friends!

It really works! I was out today and I met a new friend! We talked for quite a while, exchanged info and we are planning on snow shoeing together next weekend! As I said "Get out there and find your friends!"

Great great blog! You echoed the thoughts of so many of us! So proud for you! It takes time but I have always heard. "You have to be a friend to have a friend!". Guess it's true. Happy for you! emoticon emoticon

What a great perspective! Time with yourself is well spent because you are an amazing woman. You may find more friends willing to hike with you as thing warm up a little. Keep up the hard work, you are doing great and you deserve it.

I kind of know how you feel, I walk my daily 3 miles alone most of the time, and when it gets nicer I will probably be biking alone. I try to be positive and use the time to sort things out unwind and relax the mind.

I know the feeling. There's a lot to be said for following your own path, and some solitary time hiking in the snow is good for the soul. Good for you. Nice blog.

Great blog. Yes, aloneness is something that being content with oneself and secure will most certainly take care of those feelings. Keep on keeping on! Hugs

Do it anyway.

Well, as unmotivated as I was, I did anyway. I got out for a hike in the snow. I loved it and was out 2 hours. Yay for me! Somedays it's just rough.

    Way to go!

That's motivation.

I'd try the same but we have had over 12" of snow today and the forecast for tomorrow is -25 Celsius. BRRR!
