Thank You!

Wednesday, November 07, 2012

I have been notified by email that I have been nominated a Sparkpeople Motivator. OMG! WOW!! I am not only shocked but very pleasantly so. I still can't believe it! In fact I think I have bruises from pinching myself. emoticon I want to say thank you to those responsible for this honor. And it is truly an honor! It means a great deal to me.

I have never considered myself a motivator, of anything. I am just a regular person. A person who has fought, and sometimes lost the battle with obesity. It has been a long road to get to the point where I am currently at, a road I am still very much traveling on. I have good days and not so good ones. I have succeeded at times and failed miserably at others. I have highs and lows just like everyone else. I may continue to experience bumps along the way but that is okay. I will deal. I am not at goal yet but for the first time in my life I have no doubt I will make it.

Sparkpeople and the friends I have made here have helped me in more ways than I can ever say. I am grateful for each and every one of them and for the advice, support and sometimes shoulders they lend me. I am moving forward, changing what I can and learning, sometimes rather slowly to accept what I can't. I am once and for all taking the steps necessary to tackle my issues with food and my weight. I am glad that I am on this journey, and I am glad, very glad I found Sparkpeople to share it with! emoticon

Oh How I Enjoy A Good Sale

DH and I picked up some great deals Thursday at Michaels and Target (Halloween Clearance).

3 sets of pumpkin lights to line the sidewalk - $6 each (originally $12 each)
3 sets of skulls to line the sidewalk - $6 each (originally $12 each)
2 strings of 10 ft pumpkin lights $5 each (originally $10 each)
1 large hanging skeleton - $2 (originally $4.99)
2 large pumpkins that light up- $5 (originally $10 each)
6 bags of cobwebs - $.50 each (originally $2 each)

12 pkgs of Halloween Scrapbook embellishments $.25 each (originally $1.00 each)

OUR BUDGET: $100
WE PAID: $94.99 (Original Price $208.87)
WE SAVED: $113.88

We had a nice time shopping. Only downside to all the Halloween FUN encountered this week was the left over candy. As is my usual practice any left overs gets packaged up and saved for stocking stuffers at Christmas time. I designated 3 pieces to treat myself with on Halloween and I was good about it. However I forgot to immediately bag up the remainders this year and left the cauldron on the kitchen counter. BIG MISTAKE!!! I treated myself to 24 additional pieces in the past 2 days before I finally realized what I was doing. My only excuse: I was tired and emotional. Needless to say the cauldron is now empty, and the remainders are sealed tight and hidden well by DH. All in all it actually could have been much worse so I will accept it as a slip up, and move on.

In addition, I appreciate all the nice compliments regarding the Halloween decorations as well as the kindness shown in regards to the remembrance for my mom. Thanks everyone! Have an awesome weekend Sparkies! emoticon

You really got some bargains!! We haven't had any trick or treaters in the past few years either so no candy bought and no temptation. I don't even decorate any more and we used to do the whole yard and front porch. I miss doing that much as i miss seeing the kids in costume when they came to the door. Keep working it. You are doing great and sound so happy!!

Last Night Was A SpOOktacular Success

Thursday, November 01, 2012

43 trick or treaters braved the frigid cold last night to celebrate Halloween. Rewarded them with an extra handful of candy. What was especially nice was all the amazing compliments we received on our yard diplay from the children, teens and parents. We even had 2 neighbors come over just to say how much they and their families have enjoyed what we do and how they are looking forward to our Christmas display as well. Made the hubby and I feel really good. Heading out this morning to load up on more decorations (Halloween sales) for next year! emoticon

Here are a couple of pictures of the hubby and me along with some examples of our yard. I should do a video next year so I can capture the fog, screams and all the mechanicals in action.

PS. Happy November 1st! Keep Sparking!!!

Love, love. love all your pics. How fun! Sadly we don't get any trick-or-treaters anymore. Seems like the few kids that are in the neighborhood go to private parties. Our town does a community merchant's event in the afternoon so I was able to see all the kids having a great time going from shop to shop!

Happy Halloween!

Wednesday, October 31, 2012

Wishing everyone a fun and safe day/ night. Not sure how the weather the pass couple of days will affect the trick or treaters tonight. It will only be cold here. The rain and wind has stopped and the snow has melted in our area. I know having no power and the clean up in the northeast will hinder some areas from celebrating at all but perhaps officials will offer a make up event for the kids at a later date. As for DH and I, we will be set up outside, braving the cold to bring as much fun, spookiness and treats to any child and parent willing to come out.

In other news my grandson is all set this morning to go on his first school field trip to a Corn Maze. I am so excited for him! Later he and his mom will be trick or treating in their area than meet up with his dad for some additional fun for the 3 of them at their church's Halloween Festival. They plan to stay out for as long as the cold will allow. Little Batman will have to be bundled up but I don't think he will mind much as long as there are some treats in his pumpkin.

Lastly, here are the pumpkins I carved yesterday. DH did one as well. Will include it along with some pictures of our haunted yard later. Happy Halloween!

Weekend Highlights

Sunday, October 28, 2012

So Friday I receive a call from my grandson asking if I would pick him up another pumpkin on the way over to his house because the one he carved at our house last weekend has rotted. So a little while later DH and I brought him the pumpkin he requested than the three of us left to go to his school to paint a ceiling tile. emoticon Our creation turned out to be a mix mash of colors, animals, a rainbow, sun and more. Not exactly sure what the theme was emoticon with its flying animals, standing lizard and Olympic climbing squirrel but we had fun nevertheless. After we were through my grandson asked if he could do another one with us next year so I think our efforts were successful.

Saturday, the grandson and his soccer team, The Eagles WON their final game of the season 5-1. emoticon They finished UNDEFEATED! emoticon DH and I were happy we could be there to see it! After the game families took pictures of the team mates. There are 3 little girls on the same team as my grandson who appear to like him… A LOT! His mom, dad and I convinced the little guy to stand next to two of them for a photo op. He folded his arms shyly, grinned and did as we asked but just as we got him to stand a bit closer, the 3rd little girl happily popped up on the other side of him. My grandson quickly covered his face with his hands as if to say, “Oh No, I’m surrounded!” It was so cute but unfortunately no one got a picture of it. Next up for the grandson sport-wise, BASKETBALL!

Afterwards DH and I headed back to where we live for our town’s annual Halloween Festival. Our daughter, grandson and Dan (daughter’s long time boyfriend) followed. At the festival we met up with a good friend, JB who joined my grandson in costume. Festival goers loved it. I'm not sure who was more thrilled to see them, the kids, or the adults. emoticon

The festival itself was great! It was packed full of games, prizes, costumes, a parade, music, food, fun, and more. We had a splendid day together and the grandson came away with wonderful memories and a pumpkin full of candy and other treats. I am pleased my grandson had an awesome time and that everything went well. Could not have asked for more!

As for today, I relaxed. I did A LOT of walking yesterday (very proud of that), up and down hilly streets and my legs and knees are letting me know I got in a good workout. emoticon Hope everyone has had a wonderful weekend too!
