Yearning, Expression, Sharing, Positivity, Forgiveness

The Way of the Peaceful Warrior
"Most of us share a yearning for “something more” a sense of peace that transcends the stuff of ordinary life. This is the promise of spiritual practice and inner work."
- Dan Millman

The Laws of Success
"The Law of Expression: Whatever is expressed is impressed. Whatever you say to yourself with emotion generates thoughts, ideas, and behaviors consistent with those words. Be sure to talk about the things you want, and refuse to talk about the things you don't want."
- Brian Tracy

Words of Wisdom
"Shared joy is a double joy. Shared sorrow is half a sorrow."
- Swedish Proverb

The Power of Appreciation
"Positive practice: Go on a "complaint fast." This is a commitment that you make not to complain out loud for a certain amount of time - to anyone about anything. You may want to start with a day, then move up to a week or even a month if you want to challenge yourself."
- Mike Robbins

Psalms
"Help us, O God our Savior, for the glory of your name; deliver us and forgive our sins for your name's sake."
- Psalms 79:9 NIV

New Concerns about Plastic Bottles and Containers

Friday, September 26, 2008

For a less technical summary of the problem with plastic containers, read Dr. Mirkin (the Sports Medicine Doctor, he wrote "the Book"):

Dr. Gabe Mirkin's Fitness and Health e-Zine September 28, 2008

New Concerns about Plastic Bottles and Containers

A study from Peninsula Medical School in Exeter, U.K.
shows that high levels of urinary Bisphenol-A (BPA), a chemical compound commonly used in plastic packaging for food and beverages, is associated with heart attacks, strokes, diabetes and abnormal liver tests (JAMA. Sept 17, 2008). BPA can break down to form female hormones called estrogens that are linked to breast and uterine cancer in women, decreased testosterone levels in men, and may also cause birth defects.
You are exposed to BPA, primarily through food, drinking water, tooth sealants that you may receive in a dentist's office,
and exposure through your skin and lungs from household dusts.
Ninety percent of Americans have detectable levels of BPA in their urines.
Although the safety of BPA is still uncertain, you would be prudent to limit your exposure. The primary concerns are plastic
water bottles and baby bottles. Each bottle is supposed to have
a number in a circle stamped on the bottom. Try to avoid the following numbers:
#1 Most single-use water bottles are made from polyethylene terephthalate (PET or PETE).
#7 This is used for many colorful hard plastic lexan bottles made with polycarbonate plastics.
At a minimum, do not re-use bottles or containers with these numbers. Do not freeze or reheat foods or beverages in them.
Plastic products that bear the following numbers appear to be safe:
#2 HDPE, high-density polyethylene, the most widely recyced plastic,
#4 LDPE, low-density polyethylene) and
#5 PP, polypropylene

Riches, Flowers, Dreams, Gossip, & Work

The Way of the Peaceful Warrior
"There are two ways to be rich: You earn, inherit, borrow, beg or steal enough money to meet all your desires; or you cultivate a simple lifestyle of few desires."
- Dan Millman

The Laws of Success
"The Law of Substitution: Your conscious mind can only hold one thought at a time, positive or negative. You can decide to be happy by substituting positive thoughts for negative ones. Your mind is like a garden. Either weeds or flowers will grow."
- Brian Tracy

Words of Wisdom
"Only as high as I reach can I grow, only as far as I seek can I go, only as deep as I look can I see, only as much as I dream can I be."
- Karen Ravn

The Power of Appreciation
"Positive practice: Create "gossip-free zones." You can use this at home, at work, or in any other group. You and those around you simply commit to not gossiping about others. This means that you remind each other, kindly, if someone slips up. If you have an issue or complaint with someone, you take it directly to that person."
- Mike Robbins

Proverbs
"All hard work brings a profit, but mere talk leads only to poverty."
- Proverbs 14:23 NIV

Rowing Community Gets New Online Social Network

Rowing Community Gets New Online Social Network
Recently launched online social network for rowers, coxswains, race officials, parents, and supporters. The new online community allows people to meet each other, keep in touch, read up on the latest rowing news around the world, and also offers resources for those who want to learn more about rowing.

Quincy, MA (Vocus/PRWEB ) September 26, 2008 -- New online social network, Rowers Room, establishes a new venue for rowers, coaches, coxswains, parents, race officials, and supporters to find each other, stay in touch, and exchange information about the popular sport. The rowersroom.com social network is a departure from the current networking opportunities available to the rowing community.

"Unique to this site, and what separates us from what is out there is the social networking aspect of the site," says Matthew Treat, owner of Rowers Room. "No where else can you chat, blog and post in a 'live' environment with others from around the world. News from the rowing world is updated around the clock. In addition, as the site grows, new features including a public and personal calendar system will be available, online polls, etc."

Unique to this site, and what separates us from what is out there is the social networking aspect of the site
Treat developed the website with the hope of helping people build their rowing careers, or reinvigorate old rowing careers, encouraging new members to explore all the opportunities that the rowing world has to offer. In addition to networking, members can browse event calendars, search classifieds for rowing equipment, read about the history of rowing and even add their own rowing lingo to the rowing glossary provided on the site.

"I anticipate all ages utilizing the website and especially encourage current rowers in high school and college age brackets to do so. In addition I expect a side group will be the club contingency across the US. They should use it as a way to find potential athletes and potential races."

Rowers Room offers free registration and Treat encourages his members to provide their input on features that would make the site even more dynamic and informative.

Distortions, Reframing, Happiness, Openness, & Praise

The Way of the Peaceful Warrior
"Once we detect the distortions and smudges on our windows to the world, we can reconnect with the clear and simple reality beyond our filters."
- Dan Millman

The Laws of Success
"The Law of Happiness: The quality of your life is determined by how you feel at any given moment. How you feel is determined by how you interpret what is happening around you, not by the events themselves. It's never too late to have a happy childhood. At any time, you can go back and change the way you interpret those experiences to yourself."
- Brian Tracy

Words of Wisdom
"Most folks are about as happy as they make their minds up to be."
- Abraham Lincoln

The Power of Appreciation
"Effective listening tip: Be open to what's being said, even if you disagree."
- Mike Robbins

Psalms
"Praise be to his glorious name forever; may the whole earth be filled with his glory. Amen and Amen."
- Psalms 72:19 NIV
