I'm really enjoying your quotes, so much so that I ordered the Peaceful Warrior from Amazon! I am really realizing the importance of learning to bend and adapt. There is much to be said about going with the flow! Looking forward to seeing you turn another million meters in the challenge. My body needs to be in water right now so I have shifted to working out in the pool.

Thanks for your ongoing inspiration

- Dan Millman

The Laws of Success

The Only True Revolution

Thursday, September 18, 2008

Krishnamurti, one of my favorite philosophers said that the only true revolution can happen within us. As we change ourselves, we change the world. One of the great things about SparkPeople is that we are all here because we realize that we must change. We start with what we eat, when we eat, how we eat, and we develop consciousness about something that many people are still asleep to. Then we become aware of movement and develop consciousness about our bodies. As we change ourselves, we realize the power of personal change and we become role models to inspire others with our struggles and our successes. All of our changes can add up to really big changes as we all develop more awareness of who we are and how what we do affects the world around us. We don't have to try to change the world, if we can really change ourselves, it will be like tossing a stone into a quiet pond; the ripples will reach from shore to shore and we are just minding our own business, making no demands of others, but profoundly affecting the world in a multitude of ways.

As to following a leader to create a a revolution, you cannot trust your fate to "leaders". Leaders always have their own agenda which will never be your agenda. If you want to follow a leader, look into the mirror and pledge to be honest with yourself and look at the world as it is, not as you would like it to be, but at the unvarnished truth. When you look at the world as it is, you will find the answers. It seems that many people are finding personal solutions based on their circumstances. For some it is growing some of their own food, for others it is buying from local farmers, for others it is subscription agriculture, for others it is shopping wisely and only buying whole foods and not paying for unhealthy processing. Neither I nor anyone else can tell you what to do or how to lead your life. I can share what I do and we can learn from the other creative people on this site. We work on changing ourselves and we will change the world, but we should never follow leaders who claim to have the exclusive truth.

Viva la revolution (within)!
