And we're back....

Wednesday, June 25, 2014

Been back at it with Sparkpeople since mid-May. I swear, the older you get the harder it is to take off even 10 pounds. Five years ago it would have come off in a month or less. Now it's been a month and I've managed to drop 6 so far. YAY! Met two of my goals - making it to Level 15 in SparkPoints - and getting back into this skinnnny blue dress I haven't worn for two years. That happened yesterday! Another YAY!

Started by doing mostly cardio 5 - 6 days a week. Tried to get strength in on the weekends or on those mornings I woke an hour early for no reason. Again, hard when you have an incredibly high stress job and then sit in horrendous traffic for 60 - 90 minutes each way. But things seem to be slowing down a bit now and I am still walking 2.5 - 3 miles every evening after dinner (oh my aching feet! LOL!) But dropping about a pound a week now - only 4 more to go. Only thing that saddens me is that there is so little time for strength training. There's a new Planet Fitness opening right by home in a few days. I may join. Just hope I have the energy to go. I had joined a gym literally next door to work and hardly went mostly because it was full of lunk-heads who hogged equipment like they owned the place.

But, the fact is I am back on track. Put on a pair of my favorite summer slacks this morning and they are actually loose! Cool!

Are you aware of the info out about how hard interval training can raise your metabolism and you can get more out of less time? emoticon

And again and again and again...

Monday, August 08, 2011

It was so much easier the first time - I dropped 25 pounds in 3 months and in the beginning the weight was pouring off! But I was only working three days a week then and only 5 miles from home so I had way more time to work out.

Now I'm commuting an hour each way to work in the car and it wreaks havoc on your waistline! I've been in this new job for 15 months now and it has taken a toll. I did fine for the first six months but then the holidays came and the patients in this practice have a habit of bringing in WAY too many goodies!

So first it was 5 pounds and then 10 and now we're up to almost 13. Yikes! It's just so hard to work out when I get home after an hour in bumper to bumper traffic. All I want to do is curl up on the couch with a drink! Not good! And since I am not a morning person waking up an hour early to work out is not an option. I tried it... the lack of energy was so bad I couldn't get through the full 40 minutes. So it's walking in the evening and the full workout on the weekends and my one day off during the week. Hopefully once the weather gets a bit cooler I can jack up the walking to more than an hour. Last night the heat and humidity was so bad I only lasted 35 minutes.

So I got my butt off the couch and got back into gear a week ago. Been walking religiously every single evening and started the step class again over the weekend. Tracking calories again and back into eating healthier. LOVE cooking so this gives me an excuse to try a bunch of new recipes.

So... here we go AGAIN!

Ok-here we go again!

Saturday, December 26, 2009

So the holidays are almost over. And I got on the scale this morning knowing full well it was going to be "back to work" big time. I held my breath and peaked down through my fingers at the numbers on the scale. Ouch - up almost 5 pounds. Not that I was all that surprised. Christmas baking is my biggest downfall - that and eggnog! "Light" schmight - it still packs it on! But on the bright side I know that I will get back into my routine starting today (I was quite lazy about working out the past few weeks - only once a week. Bad girl!)and those pounds will be gone in a week or two at most.

Funny thing is I notice how crummy I feel from not working out. The slow down started after I attended a wedding a few days before Thanksgiving and I danced way more than I should have (hey - I figured it was good cardio!) and I paid for it a few days later when I started to feel pain in my left knee. Then it went to my right knee. I have NEVER had trouble with my knees before. Well I guess I do now! And I also notice that everything seems to hurt more in the winter. Every ache and pain is exacerbated in the cold temps. But on the bright side we burn more calories in colder weather so you can be sure that as soon as the rain stops here in the northeast I'll be hitting the pavement for my walks again, hopefully as early as this afternoon.

So, I'm back to tracking food again. I have continued to track my fitness - what there has been of it this month. I'm not terribly discouraged. Heck - I lost 25 lbs. in 3 months! I know I can lose 5 pounds fairly quickly as soon as I get myself back in gear.

So folks, it's off to the races again! See you in the New Year - and I'll be back in those skinny jeans not having to hold my breath to get them zippered! LOL!

Thanks Robin! Got back on the scale this morning and three of the five pounds is already gone! I'm back to the working out on a routine basis but still have to be a bit more careful about what I stuff in my mouth - so much harder to do in the winter when you're trapped indoors!

Happy New Year to you too!

Below my goal!

Saturday, July 25, 2009

I never expected to see a number on the scale below my goal of 120 but my last weigh-in on Thursday showed 119.7. I was ecstatic! I'd like to get to 118 - so I've lowered my goal weight - only so when the muscle starts to build more and that adds extra weight I can still be at my goal weight and buff to boot! I'm so psyched now that I may just bite the financial bullet and unfreeze my gym membership. The couple pairs of dumbbells and the one resistance band I have are not cutting it anymore. But HEY! I have three cats and many 14 lb. containers of scoop litter - that ought to work for increased weight for strength training for a while, no? LOL! Maybe the few gallons of water we keep on hand for emergencies will work too!

I am just so grateful for SparkPeople and all the tools and most importantly the community support. This site is the BEST thing out there! It beats the pay sites hands down a million times over!

Keep it up Chris and crew - you guys ROCK!

I reached my goal!

Thursday, July 16, 2009

Ok, the scale read 120.6 and my goal was 120 but this is the first time I have seen the number 120 on my scale since I quit smoking in February 2006 so as far as I'm concerned I did it! And I never would have made it without SparkPeople!

My primary doc was a contestant on The Biggest Loser a few years ago and he did inspire me and he kept telling me to join a website. A year or so ago I got an email about SparkPeople out of the blue. I looked at it at that time but deleted the email. I firmly believe that everything in the Universe happens for a reason and that there is no such thing as coincidence. Well, now I know that email came to me for a very real reason and the name stuck in my head cos when my doc said join a site I remembered the site with the screwy name and the rest is history!

I have always been slender and a size 4. When I went to the doctor on April 23 and I weighed in at 141 pounds that was a huge wake up call. I came home from the doctor and found SparkPeople and signed up immediately. I have never looked back - the site is so addictive I've become SparkRaving mad! LOL!

I have worked my butt off for the past 3 months but I feel so healthy. I even bought a Mio and managed to get my resting heart rate down to 53! Now my day does not feel complete unless I sign onto SparkPeople at least a half dozen times (I told you I was addicted!) I only wish the powers that be would make it possible to sign in once and STAY signed in!

I've gotten some AWESOME recipes on SparkRecipes and I'm cooking like a fiend! Even my husband, who is a meat and potatoes guy who basically eats the same three or four meals for dinner and has a slice of pizza for lunch EVERY single day (sheesh - even on our wedding day in 1987 he had to stop at the local pizzeria in Brooklyn NY to get a slice before heading to the church - in his WHITE tux jacket! LOL!) is now eating healthier thanks to these recipes.

So I am a happy camper and I have no plans to quit except I do plan on easing up on the 6 day a week cardio. It's tough to do 40 minutes of very sweaty cardio after coming home from work - especially if I have to cook dinner (thankfully my hubby is also a great cook!) I'm thankful I can cut that back to 3 or 4 days. I'll keep the strength at 3 times a week. I just can't wait til I can afford to unfreeze my gym membership.

So, the long and the short of it is that this lady is tickled pink! This is my happy day and oddly enough it's been a "thank you" kinda day all day long! So now it's time to thank Chris and all the rest of the folks at SparkPeople. My homepage says "I just wanna get back into my old clothes!" Well, I did it - all THANKS to the website with the funny name!

Yeah!!! I'm at 124/ 123 and want to get down to 120 or lower too. I just need to work harder at eating better. I do the exercise and cardio all the time but have a habit, sweet tooth. You are an inspiration!! So you lost all this weight since April this year? Awesome. I can imagine you feel so much better about yourself. Last summer I was in your boat. I lost 13 pounds and have kept it off. But I'd like to get down to 120. Have a great day
Dianna
