A Wonderful Birthday!

Saturday, September 14, 2013

Yesterday was my birthday.
I have asked my family not to spend money on birthday gifts. Instead I like to do things together.
Yesterday started off being weigh in day......down on full pound :-).
Next skyped with our grand daughter and her parents.
Went for a free breakfast at Denny's.( they give you a free breakfast for your birthday)
Then off for a free round of golf ( an area golf club offers free round of golf for your birthday!)Talked with our son out on the golf course when he called the cell phone ( I usually turn it off when golfing)
Then to the show," The Butler " we also had passes for that .....and out for dinner.
Finished the day off relaxing by the fireplace with a glass wine.
My husband had it all planned out for me and I just had to go along for the ride.
I had an emoticon emoticon .

Christmas Surprise!

Wednesday, December 19, 2012

Now that my children are grown with homes of their own a 2.5 hour drive away ........Christmas time has changed. The excitement is not coming in the door everyday after school.
Today we arranged to have a Christmas lunch with my husbands brother and wife.Having just seen them the day before we were looking forward to seeing them but certainly not overly excited.
First DH & I arrived at the restaurant and waited outside, after a few minutes we noticed it was the wrong restaurant! So we went next store to the right restaurant. emoticon
We walked into the restaurant and wondered why we were at a table for 6 went there was just 4 of us. All of a sudden out came our niece and her son who we have not seen for 10 years !
What a lovely Christmas Surprise! We get to visit with them once before they leave to fly home to Calgary on Sunday. emoticon

Seven month update.

Saturday, April 14, 2012

It has been seven months since my hip replacement surgery. The first six weeks really crawled by at a snails pace. After I was given the green light to fully weight bear the time really picked up speed.
I was really ticked off when I found out I needed the surgery(bet you all noticed emoticon)I had to rebook a cruise of the Panama Canal to this spring from last fall and cancel our trip to the Caribbean both were to celebrate for our 40 anniversary. After I got over my temper tantrum I got on with the business of getting better.
I felt so much better after the surgery.I have been gardening on my hands and knees this past month without any pain(last summer I could not do it as there was just too much pain). I can walk way over my 10,000 steps a day now.I have even done over 18,000 in one day which I was told (by a PT)is the average step count of an Amish person. The driving range has called my name and I am able to swing a club now without thinking I might take my hip out!The best of all is I can dance with my grand daughter with out pain while she is still small enough. Also playing on the floor and making forts out of blankets is very doable!
I have lost some weight (5.2 ponds in the 5 weeks). There may be a bump in the scales in the next month as we are heading out on our Panama cruise(the late anniversary cruise)and it is very difficult not gain weight on a cruise. We will be able to walk around the ports pain free and enjoy the rain forest in Costa Rica .
The surgery was so worth it and my only wish was that I could have found out sooner.BUT this way I found out I needed surgery and had it done very quickly. The one lesson I have learned from all this is...... IF you have pain or are not well DO NOT give up until someone pays attention. It took me years for some one to pay attention!
Now I am busy with my lists and making plans as we leaving next week end to a have a play date with Ella before we head to Fort Lauderdale for a few days then it is on the Island Princess for 19 days of not making meals or cleaning.I do plan on walking everyday and will hit the gym.
Thank you everyone at Spark people for all your help and encouragement.

Starting the New Year Fresh!

Sunday, January 08, 2012

First thing today i weighed in and recorded the "new weight". I have gained weight since my hip replacement and over Christmas a total of 4 pounds.
Now I that am pretty much recovered and have most of the strength back in my leg as I am walking at least 10,000 step a day on my own without a cane.I plan on really watching what I eating (back to measuring ) and try to get into the fat burning zone.
My plan is walk at least 10,000 steps everyday.

emoticon everyday
emoticon every other day.
And stretching physio exercises everyday.
When we go away I plan on taking my stretch band and working with them.
Happy New Year to everyone! This year is and will continue to be

This is wonderful! Your determination has been doing you good and 4 pounds will come off easy with your consistency in walking and strength training. Just hope I can do likewise. emoticon

Eleven Weeks Post Op from Hip Replacement

Monday, November 28, 2011

Now ,I am 11 weeks post op.... I am going strong!
It was been very difficult to sit back and watch other people doing everything for me at the start of my recuperation from my hip replacement surgery.I am the person who has always looked after others so it was very difficult to sit back.My nursing background kept telling me to take it easy and follow the Doctors orders!
The physio has been going well.It is amazing just how much muscle strength I really did not have in my right leg , gradually it is finding it's way back. They have upped the ankle weight to 7.5 Lbs.I now walk around the house without my cane.
I am back walking everyday,30 minutes in the morning and 30 minutes in the afternoon out side if possible ( started yesterday doing the two 30 min.). I do take the cane with me out side for the balance. My husband's pedometer has been very useful me and I did order a new one yesterday for myself. Over the past 3 weeks I have gradually increased the number of steps and yesterday the count was 10,108! I plan on staying around that number.........I am not going to push too hard.So nice NOT to have ANY PAIN when I am walking.
The emoticon is back in action again.
These days I am a happy camper much easier to live I am sure. I am getting stronger everyday.
Thank you to ALL my Spark Friends for your help, support and just being here everyday you ALL are so emoticon!

You are smart...I started walking again out with a cane. Do my PT exercises in the shower help a lot. My knees are not strong. I over did it when I stayed with my sister at the hospital when my brother-in-law was dying and during his quake I stood up for 4 hours. This took a toll on my hips surgery.

I am very happy to hear you are doing well. Me I was not so smart--I pushed myself because I needed to get my house clean...no help from hubby and the cleaning lady was so overwhelmed each time she came.

I still am not sleeping in a bed...I use my recliner. Both my legs cramp when I am on the bed and my surgical get very stiff.

Wed. I went back to the surgeon, he aid I am too flexible to have anything out of place. Either I have a strained muscle or I may be rejected the foreign parts in my body because of my RA.
