Survived the weekend!

Tuesday, July 31, 2007

Had a super stressful weekend. Inlaws visited. Lots of drama. I can't believe I didn't binge eat! I would have if MIL didn't constantly ask me if whatever I was eating healthy and apart of my diet program. So I felt very self concious. I did snack a little but not much. Mainly I was on the run transporting and making sure everyone was having a good time.

Next week will be the huge challenge to my diet program! I think I might take some healthy recipes with me so I can make them when we go to visit Great Grandma. She doesn't cook and she usually has moldy stuff in the fridge (scarey). (She's 96 and can't see well.) That way she doesn't have to worry about entertaining 4 adults and 3 toddlers. The rest of the vacation we will be in Mackinac Island. I so look forward to that! No motor vehicles allowed so I'll be doing lots of hiking, biking, etc. I'm taking my knitting with me too. So I can kick back and enjoy sitting along the water. I'm going to try and convince dh that SIL and I need a day without kids. DH and BIL are getting a day so I think we ladies should get one too!

Up .4

Monday, July 23, 2007

AF is here to visit and with it a .4 gain. I'll take it. Usually it is a 2-3 pound gain! Did lots of running around this weekend. DH was at a fishing tournament so I did lots of running after Jake! It is a work out to haul a screaming, kicking toddler back to the stroller after playing on the playground! That should count for some strength training! I also did lots of climbing on the playground equipment. I swear Jake is a daredevil. He ran up to the tallest slide and before I could catch up to him he was down it and running back around to do it again! Heart failure. DH has plans for him to do the tour de France. (DH is a huge bike racing fan-road and mtn). My guess is Jake will be the trick snowboarder. Great.

I planned out my week last night as far as what I will eat. It really helps me stay on target. Plus, when I get home, everything is ready to go as long as dh is there to watch Jake while I fix dinner. Sometimes he isn't but I still make it through. Jake ends up eating Ramen and peas while I fix dinner. (He then eats part of my portion so talk about portion control..Jake does it for me!) We have dh's parents coming at the end of the week to celebrate Jake's birthday. We are having a family bbq. I'm taking Friday off so they can see Jake. Busy, busy, busy. I'm ready for my Aug 4th-12th vacation!

Ha! I can picture Jake being like the flying tomato, Shawn ahhhh I can't remember his last name! It's amazing how those little guys can be so fearless! Happy belated birthday to him and I hope you have a wonderful vacation!

Down .2

Sunday, July 15, 2007

Down .2. I'll take it. I haven't made the best food choices this weekend so I'm happy I didn't go up! Jake's tot birthday party was yesterday. I guess from all the running around and last minute cleaning, I burned off the bad stuff.

We had 6 toddlers and 1 7 year old. I had gotten a beach ball sprinkler but the tots except 1 or 2 weren't into it. They were all about the snacks. Too funny. They did play with Jake's toys until everyone arrived so I hope they had fun. It was fun seeing all the moms again (most were in my stroller group when I first had Jake). One of them is 8 months pregnant! I was so surprised. I last saw her in April and she looked like she had gained a little weight but not enough to register as her being pregnant. She thought I knew and I said no. It is all baby too. If you looked at her from the back you wouldn't guess she was pregnant. Must be nice. When I was pregnant with Jake you could definitely tell! (Of course, I didn't exercise much and ate pretty much what I felt like so that didn't help either.)

Jake's actual birthday is July 20th but dh is to be out of town that day. I have the day off from work as Jake's daycare is closed that day so maybe we will go to the zoo or do something special together.

I didn't think Jake would blow out the candles as he hasn't done much of that, but he did it! It was so cute. The "cake" was 12 cupcakes arranged in the number 2. Cupcakes work as it is the perfect size and not too many leftovers! The snacks were juice boxes, stick pretzels and goldfish. I knew the other kids would drink the juice boxes, but Jake usually doesn't touch them. Well, he drank his two boxes plus someone else's. Oh well. I couldn't keep my eye on him constantly. DH was standing around chatting while I was constantly running around. I had him take a picture of the "cake" but he was standing too far away so you can't see the arrangement. Oh well. I think it was a success. The kids looked like they were having a grand time and the moms were chatting it up. No rain.

McDonalds Happy Meal

Wednesday, July 11, 2007

As I ran on the elliptical today, I was reading in my Fitness magazine that a McDonalds Happy Meal was the way to go if you are craving fast food. Just 500 calories for a hamburger, apple dippers and either a milk or apple juice. Alot better than the Wendy's I had yesterday. I'll have to remember that when I go on vacation in August. I haven't eaten McDonalds in a very long time. It has been years. I prefer Wendy's though. Maybe I can get the nuggets instead of the hamburger.

Spark has a great resource for picking "fast food" items, it's under the nutrition heading (I think)...also the wendy's small chili is a great choice if you like chili and any number of the salads with low fat dressings work nicely in a pinch as well. Here's to keeping it healthy.

At Wendy's I always get the southwest taco salad; I ditch the salad dressing and 1/2 of the taco chips. That's a healthy meal for under 500 calories.
At McD, I get a hamburger and a fruit and yogurt parfait. It really helps to always know what I'll get when I go to those places. :)

Last week, all the classes were not in session for the holiday, so getting exercise in has been tough. I rely on those classes to kick me in the booty and get me going. Misery loves company! This week they are back in session, but it is year end so I worked through lunch yesterday. Today I'm determined to get myself to the gym. It is rainy out which will help. Nice and cool. I'll take it!

Last week, I decided to try running on the treadmill. I expected it to be a bad session as I haven't run since before I got pregnant with Jake (2.9 months ago!). I ran 20 minutes and wasn't tired. I got bored pretty quick and had to go to the bathroom which definitely didn't help. I felt pretty good. During the weekend though is when I started to feel the results of the run. That's ok though. At least I know I worked some muscles that haven't been worked in awhile.

Yesterday I backslid and had Wendy's for dinner. So went over my calories by 300 calories. If I had gone with a d. coke instead of a small frosty I would have stayed within range. DOH. Oh well. It was yummy! :)
