Thriving and traveling

Friday, October 12, 2012

Still doing the work challenge. I think I've skipped one workout day so far. I'm doing the 5% fall challenge as well with team Casual Travellers. Just need to up my water intake. So bad about that. Also need to make time to hit the grocery store so I eat out less.

Work has been very stressful the last couple of weeks. My boss left and there's no interim director so it's falling on the 3 remaining managers to pick up the slack. I got the reporting side of the bargain. Of course it is a super busy time on top of it all. Sigh. Deep breath. Ohmmmmmmm. ;)

Being busy is the best thing!! Exercise makes it much easier to avoid stress! Drinking water is hard sometime I agree, but I get those little packets of flavoring and find that it makes much easier to get what you need.

Getting in your exercise and a time when things are so stressful at work can be a challenge - good for you for hanging in there and making it happen!

Glad to hear though your busy and stressed your still making great steps. I read recently about how this one girl would put eight large rubber bands or those plastic bracelets on each day and would remove one for each glass of water she drank. I thought that was a,super tip!

Thrive across America

Wednesday, September 19, 2012

My workplace is doing a competition to get us all active. We sign up as groups or individuals, log our exercise and it maps a tour across the us. Our office created 2 teams due to the great response. It starts Monday. I'm trying to exercise a little each day to get into the habit. The challenge is 8 weeks long. I'm a great starter but finisher...

I have just the opposite problem. Seems no problem on the weekend but during the week when I am so tired after work I just eat anything!! We need to become one person and then we're golden!! LOL - you're doing great, keep it up!!!!

I have a hard time on the weekends too - mostly with getting enough exercise because I get out of my weekly "routine".

I run into this when I travel - I do fine at home, but once I'm eating somewhere else my choices aren't as good. It's still a work in progress for me!

Great plan. Just make sure you are planning your meals in advance so that you have all the ingredients at hand. You will be so glad you did.

New favorite sweet snack

Frozen gogurt. So good! Plus helps with calcium since I don't do too well on milk intake. Lactose probs.

My kids used to eat yogurt before we were dairy free. I've heard frozen grapes are good and frozen watermelon -- just stick in a popsicle stick before you freeze and instant popsicle.

Yogurt is a good choice, just beware of the sugar content.

New goal

Tuesday, August 21, 2012

Still taking the bus. I actually prefer to take it to work rather than drive now. Funny. We'll see how it goes in winter.

My new goal for myself is to take time out for me. I've been doing everything for everyone else but not having me time because I feel guilty doing it. DH even told me when I wanted to go to an ADULT movie by myself that I wasn't being a very good mom by leaving son at home and not spending quality time with him. (That day I went to son's hockey game and took him to a bday party all before my dh made that statement. Awesome!) So I stayed home and went to a kids movie with son and dh, got home and played with son the rest of the evening. Same the next day while dh took off to a friend's house. GRR.

So stressed lately. DH is still looking for a job in teaching but no one is hiring. Also checking out part time jobs in retail jobs (no full time available). DH's dad is dying of cancer. 1 more treatment option and if that doesn't work he is done. Worried about son and school. Thankfully 1st day went well yesterday. Lots of kids he had been in other classes with in same class so he had a good day.

Need a vacation stat!

Good news! Hubby was offered a job today. Whew. I asked my boss for a vacation day Monday and he was fine with it. Look forward to a day by myself!

I agree with the others you have to take time for yourself. I wonder how your husband thinks it's ok for him to go out on his own to a buddies, but you aren't allowed the same time alone. I do hope the job situation turns around for him, I know that adds so much stress to everybody and your father-in-law is in my prayers. Stay strong, take care of yourself so you can take care of everybody else.

You are right - one of the BEST things you can do to be a terrific Mom to your son is to take some time for yourself. You can't pour anything from an empty vessel.
