Back in Action

I tried another fitness app and discovered I didn't stick to it because it lacked community. I missed checking out my various teams and interacting with other people! So I'm back to Sparking. My goal this month is to be consistent with recording and getting in at least 10 minutes a day of fitness. Yesterday, I saw my inspiration board when I was waffling on exercising at lunch and the first picture that popped up said....Get Outside! So I did. :) And felt better for it.

Weekends

Wow was I bad this weekend! I started ok with a salad but then had a cookie and went down from there. I need to carry a healthy snack with me when I am out and about. I got real sleepy in the afternoon and had nothing with me so ate a not so healthy McDonalds chicken nuggets. Sunday was just as bad. We were out on the lake and son got a bag a Cheetos. I did ok until afternoon again. Snacked on bad stuff. It didn't make me feel any better. So I grabbed an orange and ate that and instantly felt a lot better. Go figure. At least we ended the day with a fish fry and some veggies. I need to go to the store stat and get some healthier snack options.

Mix It Up part 2

Today we had a mix it up potluck. Oh my. Some of the recipes were delish! Roasted root veggies, steamed broccoli, spinach and garbanzo salad, stuffed peppers. I brought a chicken and blueberry salad. We are still #4 and it is week 8! I'm at the bottom of my team but I've definitely have been eating more fruits and veggies than I normally do. The thing that caught us was what types to eat as part of the way through the challenge everyone discovered they had either stopped losing weight or they had gained! Gotta watch out for the starchy veggies and too much fruit can do ya in! Discovered I'm not a fan of Brussels sprouts. But at least I tried them! Found new ways to prepare veggies. It was worth it in the end. I'm probably healthier for it.

The next challenge is the National bike challenge. My son finally got his brakes fixed so I have no more excuses for not riding my bike! The challenge goes through September.

    It's interesting what we learn along the way. From "I tried brussel sprouts, and decided they aren't for me" to "I was eating a lot of this vegetable, but it doesn't work with my weight loss" - all valuable things to know! And the things you're learning along the way will certainly help over the LONG term!

Mix It Up Challenge

We are doing a challenge at work here you have to get in about 9 servings max of fruits and veggies. Sadly I'm the one lagging on my team but I'm not the one groaning about being sick of fruits and veggies either. I'm holding steady. You get double points for super foods like Kale, strawberries, spinach, blueberries, etc. the rest of my team is eating all super veggies. I'm mixing it up more. Everyone else's kids are grown so getting a 7 year old plus my veggie hater hubby to buy in has been tough. But we are eating more so that is good! We are 4 weeks in and it is an 8 week program. Half way there. There are about 50 teams doing it and we are #4. Munch munch munch...

    If you've upped the fruits and veggies your family is eating, that's a win-win situation regaardless of what the rest of your team is doing. Sounds like your changes are actually sustainable, too, which is what really matters over the long run!

Back from vacation!

Did ok on eating. Not so good on exercising. I was a bit of a slug. But it is good to slow down once in a great while. Hubby was sick all week and now son is coming down with it. I've been popping the vitamins and drinking lots of water so hopefully I don't get it.

Pinewood derby tonight! Got son to finish his project on Benjamin Franklin. He wanted to create a game. Wow. What a lot of work! But it's cute. The board is a kite. The cards give a fact and based on the fact the player moves forward or back. Son had a great time with that part. We also added a little fiction in there. Like "you were struck by lightning while inventing the lightning rod, go back 3 spaces." Haha. I'm sure he wasn't but it makes it fun.

    It's hard to go on vacation and eat and exercise like you do at home. In fact, I think it's impossible. So, congrats on eating "OK" because that is an accomplishment!
Pinewood Derby! I miss those old Scouting days. Enjoy them!
