Sciatic advice?

So... My sciatic nerve has been a PITA lately (actually, a pain in the knee!).. When it's upset, I feel like I have a rod from my foot to my mid-back.. not a steel rod.. maybe bamboo.. so I can live, but.. I don't feel alive! (not at all melodramatic am I!)
Hints? Suggestions? I am considering trying what Brian Wilson did for a year..

    The source of the pain is usually your lower back. Heat or ice packs can help relieve the pain and so will ibuprofen. To prevent the pain, you might look at a Velcro back brace.

    I have had the same problem in the past, once when I was pregnant so I understand the pain. What really, really worked for me was a chiropractor. It's well worth the investment for complete relief. Good luck!

Almost half way through the month, too!

So I had a whole week of no sugar, wheat or flour. Then last night, I went to a fundraiser.. Dinner was an hour late! I was soooooo hungry.. It was a billion courses and the second was pasta. SNARF! I ate it. So then I had cravings and caved for dessert even though I wasn't hungry.

I did reflect on the evening. If I had not eaten the pasta, I would have had enough (stuffed when the salad came out).. So next time, I will trust myself to say no to the trigger foods.

So it was a good night. :)

    Perhaps the reason you had the pasta was so you could analyze it and learn from it. Well done!

The many days since days 9 & 10

I think I am funny.

I had sugar Sunday. I teach card making classes and I didn't plan well so was hungry and my customers always bring sweets..

Otherwise, I have been doing GREAT re: sugar.

Also, no grains..

The challenge started Monday.

I'm in a much much better place than 2 weeks ago. LOVE IT! :)

I ran Monday and my shoulder hurt. *sigh* Going to run again tomorrow. I wanted to run today but I brought a tanktop and it was cold. I went to the Y and worked on my back.

my shoulder is soooooooore today. Hmph.

Day 9 & 10

Day 9:

So I go see my athletic atherapist.. I tell him my chiro says my shoulders are rolling forward and he turns me around, and feels my back and makes comments about how much work my back needs (Everyone keeps telling me that!!).. he finds a knot beside my shoulder blade that almost makes me drop. He works out the knot.. I ask him about my back.. Tell him my chiro says we don't do enough upper back in crossfit. He said chiro didn't understand that crossfit works the entire body. I said my chiro likes us to isolate the muscles that are causing issues to strengthen them.. that you can actually gain flexibility through strength. AT doesn't agree. Doesn't really disagree. He gave me some stretches and suggested yoga.

I then went to the box I worked on my deadlift and then did 300 situps.

Food was good until my trip home. I went to McDonalds bought an Angus burger.. YUCK! Even without the bun, it was NASTY!

Day 10:
One of the trainers posts a message on facebook about how crossfit is great but she really needs to isolate the muscles a few times a week. That made me feel better.
Crossfit:
wod: Helen
3 rounds for time:
400 meter run
21 KB swing did 1 round at 36lbs 2 at 25lbs since I did it with my left arm only
12 pullups (jumping)
time: 15:04

wait a while then 100 v-ups

    I work once a week with my longtime trainer (over 5 years) to kind of, what I call, "fill in the gaps" of Crossfit. We do core and balance and he fine tunes some of the areas and muscles that we feel are weak or need attention. Agree with you - no harm in rounding out trouble areas.

Day 8

GREAT day!

Work was *slightly* less stressful.

I complained on facebook that my work hours and the kids were keeping me from working out and that I had to plan better... I then got challenges from friends.. invisble Fran and 100 burpees for time. I ran 1.5K to get to the park and then 1.5 to get back. I also practiced my double unders.
