I always worry that my daughter isn't eating enough, but she is healthier than me! LOL
You could try a little less water if you are drinking well over your minimum amount, and see if that gives you more of an appetite, but as all metabolisms are unique to each individual, you may be someone who just doesn't need a lot of food in a day.
I would gauge it more by how you feel - not sick or dizzy from lack of food, and by how the weight is coming off - 1 - 2 lbs a week is considered healthy.
Hope that helps.

I have the exact same problem. I'm well under my calories and have anywhere from 800 to 1000 leftover each night.

I have never forced myself to eat all the calories in a day if I am not hungry. There will be days when you will be hungry and you already ate your limit. I allow myself to go over if I am really hungry.

I think as long as you stay above minimum threashold so that your metabolism wont shut down is all that matters!!! I cant get my mind around eating that many calories while trying to lose weight so I am happy if I can make myself get up to 1400 calories in a day (after working out)!!- maybe you can take out a serving of water and throw in a smoothie made with yogurt and different fresh fruits/juice/milk/ice?? That will help you get in some healthy extra calories!!!Good luck-Crystal emoticon

Confused

So today was not a bad day after all one slip but not a huge one since i missed breakfast crossing fingers that slip wasn't really a slip.....

But i work some really crazy work hours and there are nights that i might be working 3rd shift, how does one go that long with no food, when we are not suppose to eat after 7pm i could really use some advice on this, cause after that shift im sleeping half the day away.and i don't want any more failure but i must do things right.

are there free foods that i could snack on that wont affect me? that's something else i must look into

Tuesday and Wednesday i got 3rd shift and not looking forward to the if i can eat or not :( hoping i do figure this out

That 7 is mostly for regular hour folks and as someone said its kind of a myth.
Not eating on 3rd shift is not doing you any good, pack a minimeal and snacks for work. I'm sure your sleeping schedule is messed up as well so time a main meal for when you will be awake for awhile then go with more mini meals. Key is PACK your own.

I found so long as I tried to eat something every few hours, it didn't matter what time of day I was eating meals. I just tried to not go to bed right after eating which gave me indigestion. I used to work nights and sometimes would have to stay over to the next shift until someone could come in. I understand working crazy hours! Best of luck with finding what works for you. emoticon

I'm with the poster above, the eating after 7 came out as a myth. I think the crux of the matter is the total calories in and out. I used to work rotating shifts, too and it's hard to even out an eating schedule. I used to pack my lunches, taking nibbles like lo cal chips, cereal, soups. Good luck!

i did some reading on this recently. it seems that the eating after 7 pm thing is kind of a myth. according to a lot of what i read it doesn't matter when you eat--your metabolism is working all the time. it may be helpful for you to eat more than three meals--just have smaller calorie counts per meal so they still add up. i would say if you are awake and functioning you should try not to go more than 4 hours without eating. night shifts are very hard on the body--maybe there is some research around about how to eat healthy to help your body cope with it.
for me--when i am stressed and tired i always crave sugar to help me--something i am trying to get a handle on now. i try to reach for fiber or protein instead--the reduced fat string cheese is a good thing to have around. an apple or a glass of milk are both good things that will also make you feel less hungry--ditto for almonds. they stabilize blood sugar somewhat. you have to be careful of your portions. i just always figure almonds have 7 calories apiece. but even a few will make me feel full and keep me from getting hungry later. walnuts are also good, although i think the calories are a bit higher than almonds.
hope this is helpful.

I hope someone can help you with this. Maybe if you post the question on the message boards people who do shift work can see it and offer some advice.

My guess would be to move your hours forward because it is clear that you can't go without food all night if it is your work time.
When you get up have 'breakfast' no matter what time the clock says, take 'lunch' to work with you, and have your 'evening meal' when you get home.

Good luck.

Back again

Sunday, October 07, 2012

Well today has been an okay day,I guess I couldn't take to much seeing this is really day 1 for me a few slips, but one thing i can say is I walked, and today's grocery store event, was everything i needed for 2 weeks of recipes from Spark People.I'm getting kinda excited about lunch tomorrow and how that is going to come out.But i know everything is in baby steps and thats all i can do for now. seeing the fridge stuffed with all healthy things is amazing to me,now one thing i do need to learn is these midnight cravings and cutting back on soda

now next thing i need is to get a scale to see how my weight is going that's on tomorrows list :)

Not my first time on sp and not my last,i hope to last longer then 2 weeks this time, but suddenly I have more motivation then i've had in 10 years.
