Pendulum

That looks odd, but it's spelled right. Huh.

Anyway, yea. Monday I swung back in the other direction - eating well, but well below my range for the day. It wasn't intentional, I just didn't want more to eat, and didn't snack.

I know, right? Who am I and what have I done with the real Candy!??!?!

Nice. Unintentional, but nice. I'm a bit hungry today, but not the kind of 'my stomach is gnawing at my ribs' sort of hunger, just hungry.

I had a nice lunchtime walk yesterday for 2 miles, then got home and changed into walking gear for another outing. Bill decided to come with me, and we walked along streets neither one of us have been on before. We ended up with 2.21 miles, which was great. The company wasn't bad either.
emoticon

A good dinner, albeit a bit later than we usually eat, and I was ready for bed by 8. A good night's sleep, and here I am, ready for today.

As I said on my status, I'm going for a short run tonight when I get home. I have all my training runs calendared and ready to go. Now if I can just stick to the plan, I'll be golden for R'n'R in May!

I think some days are just like that... low hunger...and other days it like "Chained to the wall and starved for months" hungry...

As for the run...oooh, have fun! I haven't been able to run outside for awhile yet for various reasons, but I've at least gotten my treadmill runs in...

Can't wait to hear how your run went!

Goal collage

Monday, February 04, 2013

I've always colored outside of the lines, it's just my nature to be difficult and different.
emoticon

To that end, I present my goal collage for BLC. Trying to put into words what goals I have and what I want to attain is easier for me than finding images to represent an attitude more than something physical.

I've been thinking on these for a while now. ZMoney listed four feelings she wants to live this year, and that struck a cord with me.

I admire Z greatly, watching her work hard and make changes over time here on Spark.

Thank you for sharing. It is very timely because I'm working on a set of goals that aren't so fitness/health related and doing something like this is exactly what I need. I hope you don't mind if I rip off your idea? :)

Three-fer...

Monday, February 04, 2013

Oh geez, I totally blanked the fact that I've missed three days, not two. Huh.

Friday was a busy day at work, which was good. It got me out of there without feeling as if the day took ForEver. I always like when that happens. I got home, and one by one, harnessed up the babies and took them around the neighborhood.

Of course, which ever two I leave behind scream and carry on as if they are DYING they will never survive if I don't take them too, ohpleaseohpleaseOHPLEASETAKEMETOO!
emoticon
Drama queens.

Everyone enjoyed their walks and I got extra miles and calories burned doing something I love. Nice!

Saturday I got up early enough to get a 4 mi run in before going to a training class at OHS. After class, I met with one of the paid staff and we coordinated my foray into working with community volunteer groups on the grounds. It's a little daunting to my mind right now, but I'm willing to give it a go. Bill and I have been developing a plan and it's sort of surprising and completely great that the staff are eager and interested in what we want to do.

Of course, having run Saturday morning, I developed the "I ran today, I can eat whatever" attitude. Bad bad. Bad. Like really.

Sunday was a true day of rest. I barely touched the computer (which was heavenly) and focused instead of getting weekend chores done and spending time with the pups.

Whew!
I'm up a couple of pounds, although I know while my nutrition was not stellar over the weekend, I did not eat two pounds worth! My sodium didn't look that bad either, so who knows.

We're reverting back to my food plan vs. the other menu plan. The food was great, the recipes clear and easy to follow, I just felt like I was missing all my extra veggies and was out of sorts. Talk about a creature of habit! We'll toss in a few dishes here and there, but I like having control of what's on the menu much more.

Hard to believe over three days passed and this is all I've got to share LOL seems like there should be more. Well, there's one more thing, but that'll be a separate blog, in a few moments.

Hope your weekend went well and you're not up as much as I am! Time to put our determined faces on and kick some bootay!

Eh, weight is funny like that--sometimes you go up for no apparent reason. Muscles retaining water from being worked, body holding onto water because of sodium, or just because our bodies are not calculators (calories burned - calories consumed does NOT always = loss/gain). You're on the right track, Candy, so it will balance out. Just keep tracking and doing what you know you need to, you'll get where you want!

My pups cannot and will not tolerate not going together. Remember when Toby was hurting and Reanie and I snuck off and left him behind. Yeah, I'm not sure Toby has forgiven me! LOL

When we were at the old building, on my lunch, I'd take one dog and do a mile lap and then my friend would bring out the other (we worked together back then) and I would take another mile lap. I actually miss not having alone time with each dog. Hm....

I hope you figure out the two pound thing. I have an extra 2 myself but I think I know where mine came from and should be gone.. um, soon. LOL

Keep going!

..heading for home - or in this case, the weekend!
emoticon

I was less boggled yesterday, thank goodness LOL It was PuppyDay, which is the new name for Thursdays when Bill brings one of the puppies with him to meet me at work at lunch, and we walk along the waterfront. Yesterday was Maggie's day, and she was a very good girl.

Now, dog owners, if you're walking along and see another dog/owner combo coming toward you, and you hear the other dog owner say distinctly "no, we're not going to meet right now" while drawing their dog away from yours, would you then bee-line toward that dog/owner combo and allow your dog to go nose-to-nose with the other?

I don't think so! But some guy did, and Maggie was as tolerant as she could be before the other little dog bounced at her and Maggie then growled and bounced back. The other dog's owner let out a gasp and hauled his dog back in and walked off. Geez.

There's an initiative to recognize yellow ribbons on dog leashes as a means to symbolize that "my dog needs space, please don't approach" or something to that effect. Perhaps I should add a yellow ribbon to Maggie's leash and hope to educate people on not approaching.

Maggie looks very cute and sweet and harmless, but let me tell you she's one uppity lil b*tch! She doesn't tolerate someone she doesn't know in her face. For that matter, she doesn't tolerate someone she DOES know in her face - she's always grumbling and grousing and muttering at Bubbie, who in typical little brother fashion, bedevils her at every chance!

Anyway, except for that one small run-in, she did great. We managed 1.4 miles which is not that big a deal, but for a little epileptic puppy who usually has a seizure around 1 mile when it's hot, she did fantastic. Bill said she collapsed on the passenger seat of the Jeep (she had helped him drive to meet me, told you she was uppity! LOL) for the ride home and allowed him to do the driving by himself.

So, it's not that great of a differential. I was feeling snacky last night because I was tired. Really really tired. I was going to run after work, but had a check-in with the dentist to check on my extraction site. I walked to the office and back - about a mile round trip. That was the extent of my efforts yesterday, aside from the waterfront walk with Bill and Maggie. That's alright, I was tired and needed the break. I got to sleep at a reasonable hour, and I think I slept alright. I feel pretty good today, for the most part.

Actually, I'm feeling sorta cute today, for no particular reason. I snapped a pic to remind myself of this feeling.

And then of course because I'd much rather be a goofball!

It's the weekend, kiddos. If you're not a part of a challenge team, then I challenge you to track ALL your food this weekend, no matter what you eat. If you bite it, write it and see how you do!

There was a lady walking her dog in my old neighbourhood and as someone with a dog approached her, cooing over her dog, she said "unfriendly" and avoided them. It was the first time I had ever heard anyone do that but then I thought "well, I guess that's pretty fair warning".

I LOVE the pictures of you. You look absolutely GORGEOUS (and goofy in your second shot as desired).

Our little one appears as cute as can be but she's a DEMON. We've been working with her and she's better but she just isn't nice on a leash...leash-rage. Off the leash she is fine. I give "she's not nice" warnings when people want to engage. They seem puzzled for a few seconds and shortly thereafter she freaks the heck out and they look at us like we're crazy. I hate it-hate it! I used to have a sweet-sweet dog who love people. She put her ears down and wagged her tail hard every time someone looked at her. The minute they looked away, ears up and tail stopped..look at her and ears down and wagging again.

Love the yellow ribbon idea.

Your PuppyDay walks with Bill and the pups sounds like a wonderful break from work! And soon the weather will be a little better and you'll get to enjoy it even more. But so sorry she has seizure. That is a tough thing to handle.

Hope you are having a wonderful weekend. I'm tracking every bite (including too many bites at Costco today)!

Thanks for sharing your super-cute picture (no sorta about it) and the goofball pic as well!

As for the dog situation, some people just don't seem to have a clue. Or situational awareness. Or good hearing. Or a sense of boundaries. Or...(insert your own assessment here). Yeah, having taken many a walk with my pooches over the years, some people just don't get it. Pogo is dog aggressive and is woofing and pulling and posturing whenever he sees a pooch larger than he, so luckily most people get the clue, but not all! I'm glad your little girl did well! And maybe the guy learned his lesson.

Love the pics! Looking good, girlfriend! I need to do the same. Got my perm cut out and am now flat ironing my wavy hair into submission, so I should show that. Maybe after my next haircut!

Getting used to the Fitbit. Now my co-worker who has weight-loss surgery back in Sept. wants one. I was telling another person about it today and she heard me. Enjoying that little device. Are you doing anything with the community on Fitbit.com? I don't have time to keep up with Spark and Facebook, so I haven't joined the community on Fitbit. The Fitbit Spark team will have to do for me!

I love your smile (part smirk) in your pic-- you do look super cute!

Dog etiquette is a weird thing-- it's too bad there's not a national standard (as well as some required classes with licensing, now that I think about it) for communicating between dog owners.

I had a guy scream at me while I was walking my two three legged dogs on the sidewalk (who are very well behaved on a leash) because he had a dog on a leash on the sidewalk, too... which confused me, as I was in total control with my dogs, and felt perfectly fine walking down the public sidewalk-- but he went NUTS-- "b*tch you comin' up on me with your dogs! yadda yadda yadda. I think it's personally the walker's responsibility-- as in: I have a crazy dog that will rip your face off, so I will walk across the street to avoid interacting with you, instead of making people with calm, rational dogs adjust their walk in the off chance that the other persons dog might not be cool with it...

I'm digressing, sorry. Dog stuffs is weird.

I love the pics--you ARE cute, even if you're a goofball sometimes, LOL! I do not understand some dog owners, though; always ASK if it's okay for your dogs to meet before allowing yours to go nose-to-nose with another dog. Ditto for reaching out to pet a strange dog; our Malamute will happily meet other dogs most days, but she can be stand-offish at times, and we never assume anything. The last thing I want to deal with is trying to separate our 140-lb. dog from another if things do not go well! Happy weekend, you are doing great!

Not bad...

Thursday, January 31, 2013

Yesterday was one of those days where I ended up just about a half beat off of my usual rhythm of life. That is to say, when I got up from my desk last night, I pulled my keycard that is normally clipped to my jean pocket, off and tossed it on my desk, and walked out the door wearing my work reading glasses.
emoticon

Ordinarily, I leave my work reading glasses on my desk and take my keycard home with me so I can get into the garage the next morning! Bill and I looked all over the house for that card this morning to no avail. I got lucky and pulled in behind another lady who usually gets to the office at the same time I do, so I slipped into the lot after her and managed to meet her at the elevator as well. She works on my same floor, so she badged me in to the floor as well.

Geez. O. Pete!

On the plus side, we had dinner with the family to celebrate Ms. Kyla turning 19. We ate at Newport Seafood Grill and as predicted, I had the Seafood Cobb Salad. It was very yummy with a balsamic vinaigrette dressing, and quite filling. Apparently we eat slow, because Bill and I were the last ones to finish our meals. Ah well. I had to estimate the calorie count for the salad since NSG doesn't provide nutrition information. Even if it was way more caloric than the estimate, I imagine I was still ok and well within my range.

They brought an ice cream cake from Baskin Robbins' for dessert, and I had a slice. The slice was maybe 1/4 inch thick. I removed the cake portion, and allowed myself to enjoy the ice cream and frosting. It had caramel. MmmmMMMMmmmmMMMM!

I figure it was a nice way to send off the month of January because I'm going Sugar/Sweetener Free in February baby!
emoticon

Afterward, we went home and Bill showed Kyla the Karmann Ghia he's restoring for her. He's a few weeks out from having it done so she can officially have it. When he's done, her car will look very much like this!
gomotors.net/pics/Volkswagen/
volkswagen-karmann-ghia-02.jpg

It's way too cute and she's in love with it already. We're excited at the prospect of having our garage back after X number of years LOL

They stayed late (for us) so I simply trundled off to bed, avoiding any snacking of any kind.

Since I wasn't very active, I didn't mind being below my range. I'll probably end up slightly under my range again for Thursday, but will again be lightly active.

For being off-kilter yesterday, I do believe I did not bad. I wish I could tell you ~WHY~ right now, my game is working for me and I'm winning at it for the most part. I have no explanation for it, other than it's the right time for me and I'm taking advantage of it. I hope this lasts for a long long while.

Love that car! Do you and Bill want to adopt ME so I can have one? No? Ah, it's just as well...I probably wouldn't fit in it comfortably at this height and weight. Still love you tho! emoticon

Your word day must have been mind-numbing to flip you to leave your badge and wear your glasses. I'm glad I'm not alone in things like this.

The birthday cake sounds super-yummy! And a great last sweet before sweet-free Feb.

Very cool about the Ghia! I've always had a special place in my heart for them. Kyla is a lucky girl! :)

It's great to see you on your game! Good luck with Feb without sweets!

I know what you mean about being out of sorts....I do that with my glasses more often than I would like to admit and then I have to remember to bring the work one's back! I'm so proud of you on the ice cream cake....holy moses...that was some thoughtful eating!!! I'm trying to peg why today I'm being successful and within my ranges and why I can't seem to manage this on other days. Let's keep searching for the answer and hopefully one of us will find it!!! We are going to be back to running before we know it!!!

Man, hate those days where random nonsense just seems to happen like that!

Glad you enjoyed your special meal out!

That's when you know you're on the right track--when you have an 'off' kind of day and yet you still are able to keep some measure of control. WOO HOO for you--and more power to you on going sugar/sweetener free for February, I'm not that strong, LOL!

I'm SO GLAD "your game" is working for you! You've found the sweet spot. That seafood salad sounds wonderful...I gotta get me some seafood. :) My husband has allergies so it's never on the menu here.
