In my last blog, I mentioned Bill had suggested was walk down to Hollywood for dinner Thursday night. We opted to make it a Friday-lunch outing instead, after burning a goodly amount of calories.

How?

We headed down to the Columbia River, parked at a boat dock, and walked down to the 205 overpass for 4 miles, then walked back. It started out chilly, but the more we moved the warmer we got. I tossed in a few intervals of running now and again, and overall we had a good morning.

Bubbie had an appointment for a regular check-up at our vet. It's just down the road on 82nd Ave a ways, so we figured we'd just walk him down to tack on a bit more distance for the day. It turned out to be a 2 mile round trip. Bubbie is in great healthy and charmed everyone he came into contact with. He's such a good sweet boy!

Then, once that was done, we decided to go ahead and walk on down to Hollywood for lunch. We went to Killer Burger. This is not a healthy eating establishment LOL Their burgers really are killer in that they are delicious. I had to estimate the calories and picked something that seemed to be pretty equivalent to the KB. I also had fries, but not too many. It was a really good, really tasty, juicy, savory meal. We enjoyed every bite, and once we were done agreed that 1) we would not be back for another 6 months if not more and 2) while walking down was good, we now wished we had a car for a ride home! LOL Stuffed is a pretty good descriptor of how we felt as we waddled back up the hill to home. Round trip? Just a little over 3 miles.

8 + 2 + 3 = 13.

All told, we walked the distance of a half marathon yesterday, on purpose! I know, many people do this often, but this was really the first time Bill has logged these kinds of miles in one day. We weren't super speedy, we weren't charging down the road, but we were up and active and enjoying ourselves. THAT really has to be the best result of the day.

I'll wait and catch up on Saturday's and Sunday's stats on Monday. So far, it's been really good. Hope your weekends are all you want of them, and more!

    Candy,

"Killer Burger?" I love the name. Somehow I picture a monster 1 pound hunk of juicy beef on a huge bun piled high with bacon and melted cheese!

I like the way you space out your calorie intake over the day. Congratulation on your "half marathon" distance.

    Never heard of Killer Burger. I splurged yesterday and had one at Theos which is close to work. It was yummy. Ihad a side potato salad which I saved (the burger was huge) and will have with chicken for dinner tonight. Good to see you today. And I made it home with my t-shirt.

So it wasn't my most stellar day, but it wasn't horrible either. Bill started sending me text messages at work about what to do for dinner. I'd planned on walking when I got home, and then having a nice salmon burger with veggies and cottage cheese for a meal. We ended up talking ourselves into going to Chang's instead. We're really far too easy sometimes! LOL He had originally suggested walking down to Hollywood to get dinner, but it would have been too much to fit into my day at that point, so we opted for a lower-calorie meal at Chang's. It was really good, and yes I splurged and had a small bowl of soft serve ice cream with a bit of chocolate syrup.

Being able to adapt at a moment's notice is part of living this healthy lifestyle like you mean it, not just giving it lip service. Changes happen, big or small, slowly or in a blink of an eye. Rollin' with it is the way to go!

    That sounds like the perfect compromise to me!

On Saturday, I went to an ice cream parlor with a friend and I ordered the Jr. sundae thinking I was choosing wisely. It was three huge scoops of ice cream and tons of topping and all slathered in whipped cream. Um... Yeah, I left most of it in the dish. Even if I wanted to eat that, my body has a lactose eject button that I don't ever want to trigger... again. Ugh!

You are doing so well! Keep up the great work!

    Candy,

Adapting to a situation and not going overboard is indeed part of a healthy lifestyle. Going overboard and just letting it go is also part of a healthy lifestyle. When I blow it, I just forget about it and try to do better the next day.

Thanks Bruce

I admit it, there was a corporate group meeting at lunch yesterday. I ate my salad before the meeting and was quite content (how can you not love yummy flank steak slivered thin and delish on spinach and kale??) but.. But. Sigh. I walked into the conference room for the meeting, and they had a platter of these small-plate sized cookies. I was doomed. They are a weakness. I accounted for the calories though - no cheating or skipping tracking.

Hooray calories out!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Not a bad day, all in all. I've had worse, and that deficit is still acceptable. I've found a mostly-steady decline showing up on the scale this week and I'm feeling good about. It's nice to feel, and really be, in control of what's going in and being burned. Right now, this week, today, I don't feel a sense of helpless "nothing I can do about it anyway, I might as well....".
Tomorrow is my Friday off. That is a very good thing! We have plans to head out early and use the path along the Columbia River tomorrow morning to log between 8 and 10 miles. I feel really good about this, too. I've given up beating up on myself because I'm not running again (once more this means right now, this week, today). Instead, I'm focusing on feeling good when I'm walking, enjoying the time I'm spending with Bill, and being proud of what I've accomplished in the past. I'm actually looking forward to changing my tactics and not denigrating the effort that I'm putting forth now. I guess I shouldn't say "looking forward to" since I'm in the midst of those changes now.
So far, Thursday has been a good day nutritionally. I'll hit the pavement when I get home this evening and keep on keepin' on!
    Yikes; I would have been sabotaged by those cookies too!
But I'm happy to report, last week when my boy wanted me to zip thru Mickey D's for his "fix" of CC cookies, I limited myself to 2 of the oatmeal ones (generally in the past I've gone the "3-for-a-dollar" route!) & they tasted about as appetizing as paste!
So my tastebuds truly are changing, & for that I'm grateful...
    Alright! I'm loving the background to this. The gently spiraling upwards.
I was at Office Depot not even an hour ago, and there was a woman in there with her kids also buying school supplies, and she looked so much like you I just stopped and stared. Even had the short do and a racing cap on. I was about to text you in the store (thought of even taking her photo), but then I found an urgent text from a friend so I had to switch gears.
Some of you mentioned that I get up early. I do! I get up at 4:15, get the coffee started, uncrate the puppies and herd them outside to do their bizniz, start the morning news and pulling together my breakfast, lunch, and snacks. I sometimes prepare lots of what I'm going to eat the night before, other times it's just as easy to pull the pieces together and stuff 'em in my lunch bag. My lunch bag (usually) happens to be a 10 lb bag of Basmati rice!
I say 'usually' because on days that I bring a salad (like today) I pack my salad in a low, flat, large rectangular dish and it doesn't fit well into that narrow bag. Otherwise, I'm groovin' along with my basmati bag. Sometimes that bag feels like it weighs its original 10 lbs LOL packed with so much fruit and veggies.
Anyway, I get up early and have my coffee, spend time with the puppies, then get ready for work, walking out the door anywhere between 5:50 and 6:00. I land at home again at 4:30 pm, spend time with the puppies (and Bill), then head out by 5:00 to do whatever is on the fitness plan for the day. I'm in bed by 8:30 usually, and hopefully asleep by 9 if I'm lucky. That means my evenings at home are.. limited. I think that may be why I burned out for a time, just not having enough down time, always going doing going doing.
As for food and wake-up time, obviously that works for you! Since I'm a night owl and my work schedule is different, a 4:30 am wake-up call is NOT my idea of a good time! emoticon Keep on keeping on with that as long as you don't get burned out from lack of time in the evenings, and you'll be back to where you want to be!
Thanks for the comment on my blog. I'm hoping hubby will take the kiddo running and getting into a routine for both of them. Hubby has recently started running with our new neighbor and it's doing him a world of good. More power to them! With my ankle problems, walking is my speed! emoticon
When it cools off, I'll get to take the pups out again in the evenings.
I like your lunch bag. I had one that my friend sent me from Hawaii but I wore it out. Maybe I'll get another one for my b-day. LOL
Aug. 6 and SparkCoach
Yesterday was a pretty good day, all around.
3:00 pm
1 apple
1 Frigo light string cheese
7:00 pm
1 serving cheesy tuna pasta with vegetables
(this is a suggested Spark menu meal, that Bill cooked, but made more than the suggested serving, so I had to guestimate and hope that I wasn't going ridiculously over)
I had fun getting my fitness in!
emoticon
Even with estimates, I feel confident I managed a good deficit.
emoticon
I had such a good time at OHS I was still a bit amped up when I got home. I went straight from work to the shelter, and did so in a round-about way because I entered the wrong address in the Magellan. Doh! The trip took 15 minutes than it should have, but I managed alright. Dogs were walked, then a few of them and I were spoiled with some quiet kennel time consisting of petting, rubbing, and lounging. Very very nice. It certainly was soothing for all of us, and left me feeling more positive than I had in a while.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
So I checked out the SparkCoach this morning. Have you looked at it? It's pretty nifty. It's some of the information that those of us who have been here for a while (2 1/2 years, wow!) are familiar with, presented in a new interesting way. This was my first day of the free trial and to be honest, I was kind of nervous about trying it out.

WHY would I be nervous, you ask? (you did wonder, didn't you?)
What if they tell me to do something I don't want to do?
What if I've really been doing this wrong all along?
What if it exposes me as some fantastic awful fraud and bad example?

emoticon
I know, right? What a knob-head! I pushed aside my fear of trying something new, realizing that it might just be something GREAT to help me get back on and stay on track. So I clicked the button. And it wasn't awful! LOL Yay me!

We'll see how it goes for the next two weeks. It certainly gave me a boost in the SparkPoints department. I'll keep you updated.
