The mind works in mysterious ways.....

Thursday, November 17, 2011

So I'm happily prepping my salad for lunch today. It's delish! 2 cups mixed greens, a quarter serving of leftover stir fried veggies, half an avocado, and some fat-free Italian dressing.

As I'm drizzling my dressing over the salad, my mind harkens back to another day that I brought a salad for lunch, once, and forgot the dressing.

This was at least a year ago or so.

I recall, gratefully, that the lady who runs the cafe downstairs was kind enough to give me a small container of dressing. I was ready, willing, and able to pay for it. She declined the payment, just letting me have it.

That was very nice of her. So nice, in fact, that I really should go down this afternoon and buy a giant-sized (like the size of your head, giant) chocolate chip cookie full of fat and chocolate and fat to repay her for her kindness.

Dude! WTH?

Yea, I don't think so. I have super-sweet grapes for a snack later if I really want/need something in the afternoon.

Sometimes, the mind is a terrible thing to listen to!
Spark On!

OH Man... too funny.. I had big mind games today... one was donuts AGAIN! in the brake room... like voodoo kind (I think they were from safeway.... but one had cereal on it and the others where just as bad) I thought of you and our donut brakeroom delima a week or so ago. I sat at a different table... and passed them up.

Later I had a conv with myself when I stopped at the store for butter, mike and creamer... it was time for my snack and I was hungry... I grazed by the 'grab and go' counter... but had an HAARD SKINY B talk with myself!!!! I'm proud to say I didn't get anything there!

It's a huge mind came.... and my mind matters!!!!!!!!!!!!!

4 days post-Reboot

Wednesday, November 16, 2011

So here it is Wednesday, and the Reboot has been over for four days. It feels like it's been much longer! I weighed this morning and was pleased to see 217.4. I had a small uptick on Monday/Tuesday, but that was due to increased sodium - yea, I had a bit too much. That's ok though. So far, it's all been under 220 and I'm very pleased with that.

I've added dairy, grains, and meat back into my diet. I'm following the Spark-generated Vegetarian menu this week, and so far have been quite pleased with my dishes and options. Can you believe I'm STILL eating on those whole wheat waffles? LOL They freeze wonderfully, so I froze the three leftovers, and have had two so far this week. They toast up very crisp and yummy.

100 Calorie Cinnamon Pancakes
recipes.sparkpeople.com/recipe-detai
l.asp?recipe=101304

I added an extra 1/2 cup of milk to thin the batter out (it's pretty thick otherwise) and used a smidge more than 1/4 cup in my waffle maker.

I'm staying well within my calorie range mostly (3 our of 4 days so far), which has adjusted down - initially to 1200-1550, but I bumped that up to 1650. Once I get back into the steady process of ST, Zumba, and running, I'll have a truer idea of my weekly calorie burn and can adjust accordingly. I read somewhere that you should eat to your baseline BMR. I can't recall if that was specifically for what you're in training, or just in general. Anyone else heard something along these lines?

Anyway, we had Chipotle Sunday evening, after watching Immortals in the theater that afternoon. It was good, but I could only manage to eat half, so I saved the rest for lunch Monday. We had grilled chicken breast last night with Garlic-Spiked Broccoli and Mushrooms. I'm working in chicken/turkey/fish for dinner on Tuesdays and Thursdays after my run.

Oh. Yea. I'm running again. I say running, instead of just 'I ran last night' because I am.. -am-.. AM back on the running wagon. Running, not necessarily training. I'm doing it because I want to.

It was flippin' COLD last night when I went out - I wore a ball cap, and forgot my gloves.
emoticon
Next time, I'm wearing my knit cap (unless I can find a really cute earwrap-warmer thingy soon) AND my gloves.

Darkness didn't just fall over the land.. it SLAMMED down with authority! I had on my reflecto-vest, a light-colored jacket, white ball cap, reflecto-tennies, and carried a mini-flashlight. I was certainly seen. It was a neat experience I don't have often, running in the dark. It seemed quieter for some reason. More peaceful. Just me and my huffin' and puffin'. Lawd have I lost my stamina! I'll get it back though. I think that's call detraining? Anyway....

Karen42Boys is about to do her first Half Marathon on Sunday! Y'all be sure to go by and give her SparkLove, yea? Thanks! She is completely going to rock the Half! Just stay away from the cheese until after, hey?
emoticon

Someone had mentioned that I should show you my jeans! Those snazzy 16s I mentioned. I snapped a couple of pictures this morning, as I'm wearing a pair to work.

Now, I don't know how these 16s compare to other size 16s. They fit nicely when standing up LOL They fit oddly when I sit, but I manage mostly. Ever have those big jeans that, when you sit down, you can tug them up over your belly roll to help contain it? Yea, these aren't quite that long-waisted, so there's no stuffing it back down. Ah well. I'll have to see if any other 16s out there fit me. These came from a big-box store, I don't think they're vanity-sized, but can you ever really be sure?

ST and Zumba on tap tonight at the gym. Followed by Marinated Tofu with peppers and brown rice. Yum!

Your transformation has been nothing short of AMAZING!! You made me laugh however with your "they fit oddly when I sit" reference to your jeans. I'm tired and it just struck me really funny. I thought to myself "My jeans fit oddly when I sit sometimes too...when I've eaten too much and they're cutting into my stomach!" I'm still at the office at 9:13 PM but thankfully I'm alone so no one heard me laughing.

You look HOT HOT HOT! Go strut your stuff and work it lady!

Way to go on adjusting back after the reboot. And those jeans look awesome! Yeah, I don't really worry about vanity sizing anymore, since it all appears to me to be so random. I can fit into most 16s (but not all); some 14s (but not most); and no 12s (I tried one for fun, and couldn't get it over my thigh!). I say, rock it if you got it, no matter the number!

Good job on the running and on being safe while you do it. I watched the "Fat, sick and Nearly Dead " movie thru Netflix last night. It was very interesting. I'm glad I watched it but I don't think I could drink anything that was THAT shade of green. LOL Did it taste better than it looked?

bmr if you are in a heavy training session, you can even go 1-200 calories less unless you are doing LSD in the next day or 2. what anne and i did was add half our calories burned back into our diet. my range was 1500-1750 and i burned knew i was burning about 500 on a run that day i would make my range 1750 to 2000 for the day. just our plan but it worked for us

I went for a RALK last night. (That's a run/walk, mostly walking with some running to get the heart rate up). I was able to go before it got dark. Had to get one last one in before the storm hit.

okay, you utterly made me guffaw with the cheese reference. yeah, i'll be dumb like that once.

i got a stupid cold last week that just felled me. slept 16 hours on and off last thursday, and my energy is almost back to normal. sunday's race will not be looking at race pace, it'll be like an LSR or slower pace for me. that's okay, i can adapt. and my sister finally said she would not be running it but was considering maybe walking it. i'm guessing she hasn't been tracking the weather; they're predicting rain. 13 mile run in the rain i can see, but 13 mile walk in the rain would just be yuck even if it it on the pacific coast.

oh yeah, the blog post was more about you than me. i am very glad you are back into running! very glad. that's part of what makes you tick now. :) and the eating sounds fun, too. let's get the end of this year in gear and keep it in gear!

Reboot Entry days 14 and 15.. The End?

Sunday, November 13, 2011

Good morning gang. I thought I'd leave a brief note to let you know how I've finished off my Reboot. Yes, yesterday was day 15, and today I'm having to figure out a different plan.

As for the numbers...

Weight:
Saturday - 221.4
Sunday - 220.2
Monday - 220.4
Tuesday - 220.8
Wednesday - 220.4
Thursday - 219.8
Friday - 218.6
Saturday - 216.6
Sunday - 217.4

Measurements
Waist (monthly) 36.5 11/13/2011-----37.75 - 11/6/2011
Hips (monthly) 41 11/13/2011-----41.75 - 11/6/2011
Thigh (monthly) 25.5 11/13/2011-----25.75 - 11/6/2011
Upper Arm (monthly) 13 11/13/2011-----13.25 - 11/6/2011

Saturday made me a bit giddy. That's the lowest I've seen in 23 years. It spurred me to try on some jeans to see how they fit. See, I bought those size 16 jeans several months ago, and then slowly outgrew them - in the WRONG direction. Last weekend, with the 5 lbs released, I tried those jeans on to see how they would fit. They didn't. Oh, they fit, but were uncomfortable and would not be anything that I'd wear out. This weekend, they fit nicely, and I'm going to work hard to make sure that they continue to fit.

The intervening months between buying the 16s and now ended up with my body 'rearranging furniture' (thanks Turtle!). My Eunice (squishy bump o'fat above my bellybutton) got bigger, and whatever tone I had gained was lost. I turned more squishy all over. Proof positive, if I needed it, that ST and working with weights and doing all that core work really DOES pay off. Running for me is about improving my cardio and respiratory system. ST and weights are what will shape and improve my overall appearance. Lesson learned.

I'm going to reintroduce grains, dairy, and proteins slowly to see how my body reacts. I'll probably obsess over the scale this coming week to see how things change, if anything causes a sharp uptick in the number, etc. I may not blog every day, but I'll let you know how things go soon.

So. This morning, I had coffee. It was pretty good. I don't feel super zoomy or anything. After I post this, I'm off to make those waffles. Then I'm going to go through the Spark vegetarian menu to see how it'll work for the next week, supplementing chicken and fish for a few dinners to slowly up my protein intake.

Reboot Entry day 13

Friday, November 11, 2011

First things first:

Weight:
Saturday - 221.4
Sunday - 220.2
Monday - 220.4
Tuesday - 220.8
Wednesday - 220.4
Thursday - 219.8
Friday - 218.6

That's like.. whoa. I know, I know, I'm going to bounce back up once I'm off the Reboot. I'm ok with that. As I told GayleP67 earlier, this whole experience has proven to me that a) I CAN stick to a plan if I really want to, b) I CAN release more lbs, I'm not doomed to be stuck in the 220s, and c) it's nobody's fault but my own that I was 'stuck' where I was. I don't have to give in to every craving, or to the containers of ice cream that Bill bought the other day and is eating from every evening (really? thanks for the support there, guy!)

I want this Reboot to mean something. I want it to be meaningful - not just a 15 day blip on my weight trending line, but a for-real shift in my thinking. I think it has been. Ok, so yea, I'll go ahead and have the whole grain waffle Sunday morning LOL but I will drastically decrease the amount of grains I take in daily. I'll eat more whole foods, less processed. I will work at getting my needed protein from natural sources rather than a protein powder (which is what I was doing before and I'm wondering if that was causing my digestive problems).

We have a meeting today, and the head of our group brought donuts for everyone. Sincerely, that's thoughtful of him, he didn't have to do that. However, he dropped them at my desk to maintain until it's time for the meeting. I ignored it for a while, but something happened and suddenly.. there was this.. whiff.. of SUGAR!

OhGeezOhPete!
emoticon

I didn't necessarily want a donut, but the scent was too much. I moved them to a coworker's desk LOL I have a baggie of seedless grapes that I'll eat at the meeting instead of a donut, and feel good about it.

This evening, the menu calls for a corn and tomato salsa over a green salad for dinner. Yum! But, it's cold and damp and calls more for soup rather than salad. So I asked Bill to put together the Reboot Green Veggie soup. It's tasty, warm, and delish, and substitutes in well for the salsa and salad. That's how I'm not following the plan 100% - I swap out available alternatives, which they do say on the site is ok to do.

So there. Friday's underway. One staff meeting, and an early out will see me home in time to harness up the girlies and drag them around the neighborhood. Hopefully Saturday early will be clear, as we're hoping to take the bikes out to the Springwater trail for a ride. Sunday? Dinner and a movie out. I feel like I'm coming out from under a cloud, and even though it's still dark and damp and dreary here, I've got a little bit of sunshine going on.
