Need to manage my time

Tuesday, February 01, 2011

I get up in the morning and have breakfast and wait for my Parkinson meds to kick in. It takes awhile before I can function so I sit in recliner on computer. Before I know it it's noon. I really have to set a limit so I can get other things done. BUT I love reading the message boards and blog entries of all my SP friends.
I bought the Spark book and have hardly read any of it. I'll have to set aside an hour each day so I can get through it. I'm sure it will help me on this journey.
Hopefully by posting this is my blog it will be a reminder for me.

I know the feeling ... I am, like you, totally enthralled with the writings of all these folks ... but it does add so much encouragement for me. We are all on this life long journey and it really does help to have friends like you to inspire us ... we are going to do this together, my friend. emoticon

Weight staying the same

Monday, January 31, 2011

My first 40 lbs came off real easy and I wasn't really trying or tracking what I ate..Now that I joined SP and I'm tracking everything and staying within my calorie range I'm stuck and so is the scale.

I just read an article that said to eat more protein, so that is what I'll try.
I won't give up. I have so many wonderful caring and helpful SP friends that I won't disappoint. We are all in this together.

I haven't told anyone I'm doing SP because I imagine seeing their eyes rolling as if to say 'again?" Before joining SP and I had lost weight I just told everyone I couldn't eat so much because I'd get sick if I overate. This is due to GERD.

We are having company for Super Bowl so I'm planning on having lots of vegetables around. One sister in law is bringing a raspberry torte and another pie. They always havesso many desserts and when I said one is enough they said oh no we need more. Well I'll munch on my vegetables.

Good for you Carol............ it's hard to eat healthy when everyone else around you is pigging out...... but like you said...... make yourself a veggie tray with all kinds of fresh fruits and veggie... maybe some low/fat cheese..... and a low/cal dip........ make it look real nice...... and I bet some of them will be digging in too....... Never let someone else wreck havoc on your plan...... your doing emoticon

Be sure and have a veggie tray with a low calorie dip--they are not too hard to make and so healthy.

Give yourself time to lose the weight and take one day at a time. I find tracking my food in the food tracker helps me to stay within my calorie range. We can do this. . .

Sounds like a good plan for the munchies on super bowl day ... we're always here for you and I know we will all have weeks where we don't lose, but by golly we're still dedicating ourselves to do our best. Don't let anyone sabotage us this time ... we can do it ... it just might take awhile. emoticon

Spending too much time on SP?

Friday, January 28, 2011

I joined SP to learn how best to reach my goal to a healthier me. I've spent a lot of time here joining teams, reading blogs, making friends, laughing out loud. and finally today making a commitment to exercise . I did 10 minutes earlier today and was tempted to do another 10 minutes tonight. But I stopped myself knowing that I would pay for it with pain.
I may spend a lot of time here but I'm enjoying it. I don't feel guilty because I didn't keep "BUSY" with more constructive activities such as house work, cooking, etc. You know I just realized I may have gotten my bad eating habits from guilt. I was always suppose to be "BUSY"
Yes I'm married to a workaholic. I use to keep ironing board set up so when I heard him come home I could jump up and be ironing when he came in. He isn't a bad person but I always felt unappreciated because I was a stay at home mom and didn't contribute a paycheck.
One of my daughters is married to a man just like hubby. Thinks raising kids, cooking, laundry, housework, etc. is woman's work. But when daughter complains to her father, he says he just doesn't understand son-in-law's thinking. I just look at my daughter and roll my eyes.
Man, this blogging is cathartic (Not sure if that is right word).but it feels good.
Well, that's it for tonight.

I think at times we all find we are spending a lot of time on Spark.
To me it was good to involve myself completely in the process.
I have had to scale back some, for I still work, and I workout about 3 to 4 hours a day.
I figured the time was better spent exercising than sitting at the computer.
Sometimes at first I felt guilty, letting my Spark friends wait while I attended to other things. But since this is my journey I have to travel the best way I know how. And right now it's look after myself.I am number "1". Top priority,
So sometimes I find myself late at night, (late for me) getting on line to Spark some more.
My first husband sounds like yours. We did not last long.
I hope you continue to enjoy Spark and it continues to motivate you in good ways.
Try to increase those 10 minutes. I know you can.
Be positive, stay strong and Spark on. emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

Sometimes I actually feel I am also spending too much time on Spark but I learn so much and it motivates me to read the blogs, etc. It is me time!! SP does work--and I actually feel happier since I discovered SP. I have a lot of weight to lose and this site is really motivating and helping me--also love the friends I've made here.

Thanks for your blog. I've always felt guilty about the time I spend on Spark, but you have a good point. This is for us! It's a way to be affirmed, valued, and sometimes a way to vent. If we don't take care of ourselves, who will. Way to go, Sista!

    I hear you!

One thing I learned here is that "keeping busy" can help keep me from constant munching -- but not if I get bored with what I'm doing.

Coming here is a way to keep busy and have fun. If I need to stop, I can simply stop. It's not like it's something that I am required to do.

But that's like a lot of other things. If you "have to" do something, it's not as fun as if you choose to do it on your own. (Required reading vs. reading for fun)

Good luck on reaching your goals -- and without all the stress of needing to "keep busy" on everything!
