My dad had to have quadruple bypass surgery in July, on my mother's birthday no less. My DH wanted to send me to see them in August but prices were too high so we decided to wait until October. Then he decides we needed to get married before I went. They live in Arkansas and we live in Hawaii, with the 5 hour time difference that meant that I would get there the day after I left. Before I even got on the first plane there was a problem. They were having to take it out of service for a mechanical problem and it was going to take over an hour to get the replacement one ready to go. So we left Kona airport 2 hours late. Good thing I had a 2 hour layover in L.A. I had to dash to get to my next flight and was almost the last one to board.
Had a great time in Arkansas. I hadn't seen my parents in 4 years, ever since they moved away.
Mom fed me my favorite Southern dishes while I was there. Chicken and Dumplings, fried catfish and turnip greens (Mom and I picked them ourselves), soup beans. Even with all of this heavy Southern food I only gained one pound.
The trip back went okay until I got to L.A.. The plane to take me the rest of the way home had to be taken out of service (AGAIN?!). They switched us to a different plane so we all had to troop through the airport to a different gate and we left an hour late. I am soooooo happy to be home.
We went to the store today and I got some Ahi Poke. I guess I was missing Hawaiian food.
