A small victory!

Monday, June 17, 2013

We went to the beach last Thursday for 6 days, we got back on Tuesday. When I got on the scales Wednesday morning I was shocked at the weight I had gained, even with keeping up my running. Obviously my calories-in had exceeded my calories-out. So I immediately regrouped and fixed a healthy breakfast, and lunch to take to work with me. The rest of the week I really focused on eating fruits, veggies, and protein. I also made sure I got all of my runs in.

When I got on the scales yesterday morning I saw that I had lost what I had gained on vacation. I continued to stay focused Sunday with my eating but we went out to a Mexican restaurant for supper. I have been staying away from crackers, bread, and sweets since last Tuesday, but I ate some chips and a tortilla last night.

My small victory was that when we got home I really wanted some of the Ben & Jerry's that was in the freezer but I did not allow myself to continue on that path. I am really proud of myself for not giving in to the temptation to overeat!

After my, um run this morning I fixed me some oatmeal and packed my healthy lunch! I won the battle last night but the war still continues!

Knee and Elbow Have Road Rash!

Monday, June 17, 2013

Well it has finally happened. This morning I was at mile 3 of a 4 mile run when I tripped on uneven concrete and fell. My left hand has a small place on it but my right knee and right elbow took the brunt of the fall. My hand-held water bottle protected my right hand. I also have a scratch on my right hip. As soon as I fell I jumped right up, waved off the young man who had stopped to help me, and kept right on going. Fortunately I had my water bottle to wash off my knee and elbow as I ran. I ran about 0.6 miles after that and decided to walk the rest of the way home. I actually had a great pace going before the fall.

It has been a long time since I had a road rash. A vivid picture of my grandmother digging pea gravel out of my elbow after a bicycle wreck when I was about 7 quickly came to mind. I also remember the time I wiped out on a skate board when I was about 12, that was a much worse rash! Of course my DH would only say that I was lucky I didn't break something.

I knew it was going to happen eventually! My ego is actually hurt more than anything, kind of embarrassed about it. But I am also proud of my badge of honor. What runner has not hit the asphalt during a run?

However, I really have to pay attention on my runs. I am registered for two fall half-marathons and I DO NOT want to mess up my training.

What a way to start a new week!

Man do I know this story well!! I have fallen twice this year on my bike and one other time while running. I have gotten a sizeable bump on the left knee as this is the third fall on it in 6 years and it doesn't look normal but I can keep going. The last fall (while running) resulted in a cut lip that has a nice little scar, but other than being aware that I am indeed older these days, I am doing fine.

Keep the steady pace and don't stop moving, you are doing amazing!!!!!

You are definitely gaining momentum! I am currently registered for the STP (Seattle to Portland, double century bike-ride) in July and the Portland Marathon in October, but will only be able to do one race this June due to travel limitations. Not having a race to work toward has caused a bit of slacking so I need to get on the ball!

Struggling this month!

Sunday, April 28, 2013

This past month has really been a struggle with my eating. I have continued to run. I am training for a 10K race on May 11. But I have regained 7 pounds from my lowest point of 142. I am eating way beyond full and eating a lot of junk food. I know that I can't just rely on running to lose the weight, I have to get control of my eating. I have started today with paying more attention to what I am eating! I have 25 pounds left to lose and I have to get back in control!

I sure do understand! I came back from a trip and had put on 6 lbs, but unlike you was not at all where I should have been when this gain happened. I have ramped up my exercise but need to really work on my eating too.

We can do this! You have been an amazing inspiration to me!

It the end, it is your decision to eat right and take care of your body.

No one ever guaranteed it would be easy, but it is a darn sight better
to be healthy....and take care of yourself now, before problems pop
up down the road somewhere.

Telling you this chick because I have had to learn this the hard way.
Got questions?? I got answers....

Blessings,

Half-Marathon Race Results

Saturday, March 16, 2013

This morning I ran my second half-marathon, the first one was three years ago. I finished today with a time of 2:16:45 for a PR. I also came in 2nd in the 50 - 54 year old age group so I brought home a trophy. I was really surprised to get a trophy.

The temperatures were really warmer than what I have been training in. Two weeks ago I ran in a snow shower. Today it was 60 degrees. It was really windy too.

I really enjoyed the run and I am looking forward to my next race. I will probably run a 10K in April and another 10K in May. I am also watching my calender to register for two fall halfs!

Outstanding effort! We met 3 ladies from Nashville at oour Clearwater Halfathon in Jan. They invited us to come up and do a Half up there. We are definitely considering either the Country Music, Music City, or Nashville Half Marathon.
