new medicine with added bonus

Friday, March 12, 2010

Several days ago my pharmacy contacted my doctor to get prescription refills for my migraine medicines. My doctor's office then called me to come in because I had used up the prescriptions faster than expected. So I went in for my appointment yesterday. After we talked about my headaches, the doctor decided to put me on a daily preventative medicine instead of just treating the headaches when they happen. Then he said, "There's one good side effect, and one not-so-good side effect." He explained the not-so-good one, then said that the side effect that a lot of women like is that the medicine often makes people lose weight! Hooray, what a bonus that would be!

Well, I'm sorry that you have the migraines, but I suppose that is a nice 'silver lining', anyway.

Hope the new medicine improves your symptoms though! emoticon

Careful though! I also used this medication (Topamax) and I had to quit using it because it affected my eyesight. This was 6 months ago and still I cannot see/read the same way as before. In my case, it wasn't worth it. Besides, I didn't loose any weight. Try Imitrex nasal spray (if you are so authorized by a doctor), will get rid of migraines in 10 minutes with no palpitations or side effects. Just be careful, read the insert that comes with the medication and be vigilant about side effects. Wish you all the best!

Hooray! I am sorry you get migraine headaches but the side effect of the medicine is like getting the flu...I always say "well, at least you lose a few pounds!" :P LOL

hope you get the bonus side effect!

No trainer at gym tonight

Tuesday, March 09, 2010

[This was actually written Monday night, but it's after midnight.]

So I went to the gym tonight for my regular weekly session with my trainer. I walked on the treadmill for a little while to warm up, then eventually went looking for him (he usually comes to get me off the treadmill when it's time for my appointment). I couldn't find him, so I went to the front desk and asked. The guy at the desk said, "Oh, didn't he call you? He had to cancel all his appointments for the whole week. He said he called all his clients." Now, silly me, I am disappointed that he's not there and he didn't call me to let me know ahead of time, so I get back on the treadmill for about twelve more minutes, then I just leave the gym. I lost all of my motivation to exercise.

Now I know in my head that I should have stayed and done a good workout on my own. I wish I hadn't let a little setback affect my exercise plans. I need to keep my focus on my goals, and continue to work toward them, even if I temporarily "don't feel like it". So now I plan to go back to the gym tomorrow and make up for not staying tonight. Here's hoping that I do better tomorrow.

Don't beat yourself up. Unexpected changes can easily change our energy levels as well. I know tomorrow you'll be right back on track!!!!

I totally understand how that motivation buster happened. This was the first time an unplanned thing happened to a planned event. But it was a great opportunity for learning. Now, if this happens again, with a trainer (lucky to have a trainer!!) or with food choices, you can be prepared to not let it get you down. Hey, at least you showed up and at least you stayed 12 more minutes!! In my world, that is a win!!!

Go You!! Better luck tomorrow! (later today!)

Goals for this week - take 2

Sunday, March 07, 2010

When I wrote out my goals out last week, I started out great. I ended up being sick most of the week, though, so I kind of got stalled. I'm still not 100% healthy, but I'm doing better, so I'm going to set the same goals again for this week.

so far this week...

Wednesday, March 03, 2010

I did great on my goals Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday. Started feeling sick late Tuesday, though, so not much progress today. I just took some Nyquil, and I'm going to bed. emoticon

Nyquill, the nighttime sniffling sneezing coughing aching stuffy head fever so you can rest medicine! (or something like that)

Hope you feel better in the morning and congrats on meeting the goals!

Goals for this week

Sunday, February 28, 2010

I'm trying to do better about planning out my days and/or weeks ahead of time. I also want to do better about holding myself accountable. So these are my goals for this week:

--Exercise for at least 10 mins. a day (one of my Fast Break goals from the very beginning).
--Do cardio at least 4 days, strength training at least 3 days.
--Go to the gym before work one day. (When I go, it's always after work or on the weekends. I want to try doing it before work and see how it goes.)
--Register for at least one 5K walk to do in March or April.
--Finish vision collage.
--Blog at least two more times this week. (I come on the website a lot, but I want to start blogging more.)
--Eat 2 or more fruits/veggies per day (another one of my Fast Break goals from the very beginning).
--Drink no more than 5 Diet Cokes a day. (Believe it or not, this is cutting down for me. I am a Diet Coke addict, a "chain drinker". My doctor told me to cut down very slowly so I won't get headaches from caffeine withdrawal. Doctor's advice was to cut down one drink a day going for a week at a time; so last week I had no more than 6 drinks a day.)
--Drink at least 3 glasses of water a day. (I'm slowly replacing the Diet Cokes with water.)

This is a pretty long list, but no individual item is really that big. They're all fairly small steps for me, so I think it is manageable. If I meet all of these goals this week, my reward will be to go shopping at the SparkPeople store.

That is a great list. Very realistic. Just writing down a list is such a great idea. It really helps!
