Is It Regress Or Progress?

The other day, for two days, I was able to walk on my treadmill for 50 minutes without stopping. I was walking at 2.2 mph. I started to alternate my speed with 2.3 mph and now I am consistently walking at 2.3 mph. The problem is that I can no longer walk without stopping. I can walk for 26-32 minutes before my first break. Then I have to take several more breaks before I can finish. I was averaging 1.9 miles in 50 minutes. Today I walked for a little longer to get 2 miles in. So am I making progress or have I regressed seeing as I can no longer do it all at one time? I like to think I am making progress, but I feel bad that I can't walk it without stopping. I guess the point is that I am exercising at all and am doing it for 52 minutes 5-6 days a week. I still feel bad :(

    You are doing great. I also think that you need to maybe go back to a slower pace and then add the faster pace a little at a time. Don't worry if you can do the same amount of time at the faster pace all at once. Give yourself some time to adjust! Great job! emoticon

    Susan, Look at all the progress you have made in your walking! You are doing AMAZING! When you talk to yourself, say positive things, the negative self talk is so discouraging!! Celebrate how well you have done!! :)

    Actually, it's not a bad thing to break it up a bit. Alternate between your old speed and the new one, until the new becomes as easy as the old used to be. Then you can change it up again. That's a technique my Physical Therapist suggested, it is supposed to help prevent burn-out... Still working on the alternate workouts! LOL

Personally, I thing you are doing AMAZINGLY well!

    I would say it's definitely progress! Maybe you should take it back down to 2.2 and do the 2 miles. If you can do that consistently, I would say to try the 2.3 again. No matter what, you're moving and that's the best thing! No need to feel bad at all. You're doing great!

Exhausted today!

Don't know why I get like this. I woke up at my usual 7:30 and I felt like all the energy had been drained from me. I had my breakfast and went back to bed. I slept until 12:20!!! I felt much better when I got up but the day was shot. I don't feel much like doing my walk, but I will talk myself into doing some of it, maybe 10 or 15 mintues. A little is better than nothing. I cheated on my walk yesterday and counted my grocery shopping as my walk. I can't skip today altogether. I thought I slept well, but maybe I didn't. I went to bed at my usual time so nothing was different. My blood sugars were okay...a little low, 58, but that is okay for me. When I finish my water and my tiem on SP I'll get to that walk. emoticon

Worth the read!

I just finished my hypnosis book. It was very good, full of good information. I would recommend it to anyone wanting to lose weight. even if you don't do the hypnosis techniques, it is worth reading. the book is I Can Make You Thin, by Paul McKenna. He addresses emotional eating, cravings, hunger and raising your metabolism. I still listen to the CD at night and I believe it is working. I have learned new skills when it comes to eating. A definite "yes" to reading this book. I got it from Barnes and Noble.

Pedometer Ideas Please

Any suggestions on where I can get a decent pedometer? I am looking for something that goes around your ankle. I would like something reasonably priced. I would like to track my steps. The SP store has one but it is to clip on a belt. I don't wear pants around the house so I want something for my ankle. Thanks......

    Mine by omron, (walking style x pedometer) will work in a pocket, or hung around your neck or in your bra. It was available via amazon.

Exercise Progress

Spoke to the dietician today by phone about my consult. While we were talking she wanted me to walk 3 miles. I told her that was too much for me. She then suggested alternating my 2.2 mph with 2.3 mph. I told her I had tried that and it made finishing my walk difficult. Well, I tried it again today. I noticed my 2.2 mph was a little slow. So I alternated a little with 2.2 and 2.3 mph. I managed 47 minutes for 7 laps on the track and 250 calories. When I finished I told myself to go back and walk the additional 3 minutes for a total of 50 minutes for the day. I did the 3 extra minutes and walked at 2.4 mph. I got 266.7 calories burned. I felt good and my back didn't hurt like it usually does. I'll try it again tomorrow and see how I do. WooHoo!!!!!!
