Shedding light on past bad habits.

Friday, March 30, 2012

Part of this journey is figuring out what you have done wrong in the past. Most of the adults I know were never taught how to properly fuel their bodies. I know I was never taught. I have always heard the eat less move more mantra spouted from every media source imaginable. Is it really that simple? In reality no.

In the months leading up to my decision to join Sparkpeople and to change my life for good this time my average day would look something like this: Skip breakfast cause I hate eating in the morning, have a sandwich and chips for lunch or a baked potato with cheese and sour cream (yum). Dinner would be homemade by me and of average portion. Not to bad right? Wrong. This adds up to maybe 1500 calories. Add to this that once a week sometimes twice we would eat out. This is where I made the big mistakes. My body was hungry. Very hungry. So I would supersize it get the biggest meal and make 4 trips to the buffet line. All of those extra calories my body would store because the very next day I would starve it. I have eaten this way for years.

Psychologically I say to myself I don't eat alot. I don't understand why I can't loose this fat. Now I get it. I have to fuel my body everyday . Once my body realizes it is being fed properly it will shed the excess and uncover the person I am meant to be.

This is the toughest part for me because I have to eat more and move more. I need to be taking in over 2000 calories a day!!! Not only that but they need to be quality calories. So if I spread that over 5 meals that's 400 calories each.

Not sure if I will have a good number on the scale this week but with this information next week is going to rock!!!!

This is why it is so important to teach our kids how to fuel their bodies. Let the learning begin!!

Oh and P.S. This is day 4 without the ick stick and I feel great and yes I can quit smoking and change my eating habits at the same time it's a health journey not a fat journey!!!!

Still hanging in there.

Day three smoke free!!! This is the first time in 20 years I have gone this long without a smoke without having an anxiety attack. I can't lie I do miss it but I know that being able to breath is going to be so worth it.

I am still staying on track with my calories and I am drinking a ton of water. I am a bit concerned that I am retaining that water so it may be a good idea to track my sodium intake.

One thing I am not sure about is the tracking of my calories burned. I am not sure that the calories listed in the fitness tracker are accurate. I am considering using a body bugg or something similar so I am open to suggestions.

3 days is amazing! I've managed to taper down to about a half a pack a day, but since I started again in 2002 (doh), I haven't managed to quit again. I'm going to try again though. There's nothing worse than walk interrupted by a coughing fit! lol

Hugs!

I am so proud of you! Three days is great! Keep it up girl. It's so good for your health to stop now. emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

As for tracking calories - I would love to have a body bug but can't afford that right now. I do have a heart rate monitor that I use when exercising. It's got a chest strap and then a watch. It's not uncomfortable like I thought it would be either. I think it cost me around $50.

Good for you! Smoking is one of the worst things we can do to our bodies. I was once a smoker and was even hiding it from my kids to prevent them from seeing me do something I never want to see them to do. Keep strong, it is difficult but well worth it. I quit 10 years ago and started back 3 years ago. I have now been smoke free 2years! I prayed hard to have that habit taken from my desire and I Never Craved A Cigarette Again! As for the fitness tracker it is accurate for me. I use it faithfully.

I've got this!!!

Wednesday, March 28, 2012

Day2: I feel a bit woozy at times and my head feels a bit strange but I am coping well. I haven't had a single anxiety attack and I have only lost my temper once..... ok twice but no one was listening the second time LOL.

Third week: I am doing my thing tracking everything burning it up at the gym My Husband is looking all skinny already. Figures right? Not going to let it get to me. This fat is going to come off if I have got to beat it off with a stick ! I think once I get into a better sleep pattern that may help but that is an issue I just can't tackle right now.

My dad quit smoking by supplementing Life Savers candy for cigarettes. We could've owned stock in Life Savers, lol.

If you need something or need to vent, I'm here. You can do it. Good luck!

It's 10 am and......

Tuesday, March 27, 2012

I haven't had a single cigarette. I still want one pretty bad so I'm not sure if I let the medication build up long enough. I am going to try walking if the cravings get to bad so at least that will build up my fitness minutes.

After tracking my food and exercise The past two weeks I am getting into a good rhythm. I know I can do this!!!! I just have to see it through it won't always be this hard. Right?

Make sure you've got your list with you (the why you want to quit). I've got several copies, 1 in my car, 1 at the fridge, 1 at the garage door (where I used to smoke) , & 1 at my bathroom mirror. I'm totally armed with gum & tic tac's - even have an app for relaxation/quit smoking hypnosis. I even visit all the web sites every time I get anxious for a cigarette. Drink lots of water too - oh I also heard orange juice - any juice works good because your blood sugar plummets. Good luck - YOU CAN DO IT!!

    You CAN do this! emoticon

Focus, commitment, and support. You are doing this for yourself. Everyday you go without a cigarette is one more day for your lungs to heal. It wont be easy. There will be days that you have to have just one, but DO NOT give in. It is going to take time for your body to recover, but think of all the benefits and how much better your life is going to be. Believe it and you can achieve it!

emoticon that is terrific that you are quitting smoking. To me walking is one of the best exercises because it takes my mind off of all of the stress I have had to deal with during the day. It always makes me feel so much better.

Good job on not having any cigs. Can you take something like Nicoderm CQ while you're on the Wellbutrin? If you could, maybe that would help.

Gosh, you are ambitious to try and lose weight AND quit smoking at the same time. That will be really hard--are you sure you shouldn't try to accomplish them one at a time? I know you want to be healthier NOW. Good Luck--I'll be praying for you!

My Goals For HLC #1

Monday, March 26, 2012

I have a few goals that I plan on reaching during the next ten weeks. My first goal is to quit smoking. I set my quit day for Wednesday and I have been taking Wellbutron for a week now. This is by far the scariest goal for me but I ma ready to tackle this demon and push it out of my life. Each week I don't smoke I will reward myself with a night out with my Husband.

My next goal will be to earn points on every challenge and to exceed the number of points I earned each week. I am very competitive so I hope by competing against myself it will help me focus o the changes I am making. For every week I exceed the week before I will celebrate with knitting time.

My last goal is to see it through to the very end. I hardly ever finish something I start. This is a character flaw in my own eyes and something I will work hard to change. When I meet this goal I will celebrate with a trip to the movies with my whole family.
