Out for dinner

Thursday, July 05, 2012

I want to keep my streak going for the week, so this one will be short.

Motivation: we are out with friends for the evening. Great times. Everyone needs that once in awhile.

Nutrition: the focus this week is on planning. Since tonight's dinner out wasn't planned, I will just use the planned meal for tonight tomorrow (hamburgers).

Fitness: this morning before we left the lake, I worked at clearing a trail for an hour and a half. I couldn't find anything on SP that matched that, so I entered it as low impact aerobics. It was a pretty good workout anyway

I was on the verge of beating myself up because I didn't make my goal of cooking at home for dinner seven days straight. Then I saw how you readjusted quickly and will cook your planned meal for the next day. Thanks. I needed to see this today! I am glad you had a great time with friends. You are right. Investing time in the ones we love is so very important! I am sorry I'm so late with chapter four. I will try and post my ideas before the week is out!

Happy Independence Day to my American Friends!

Wednesday, July 04, 2012

Day 2:

Motivation:
My "Spin the Spark Wheel" streak of over 500 days ended this past weekend, when we were at the lake, and the tower went down. We are headed out there again this weekend, so I'm not sure if it will be fixed or not. I actually enjoyed the lack of technology - but then again, when we are camping with friends, there is lots of other stuff to do. I am back to spinning the wheel again, and will see how long I can last this time.

Nutrition:
Today is looked after already, and my focus this week is on planning. So tomorrow I am making homemade burgers from lean ground bison. I will order some whole wheat buns today, and then have them tomorrow. I also went out to the garden to pick fresh radishes and green onions to put into a potato salad. So I've got tomorrow looked after!

Fitness:
Today was a running day, and I got in 3.5 miles of run walk. I'm up to running five minutes at a time now, without bother to my PF heel. This is a huge cause for celebration for me, and I'm sitting here grinning about it.

So now it's off to work! Have a great day folks.

Pace yourself...
I like this run...walk...run...and maybe keep it at the same 'level' for several weeks to prove your condition before adding. What do you think??

Very happy for you.

Yeah! Running. I'm so glad to hear it's going well for you. I missed a couple of weeks due to vacation (bad weather) and an unrelated injury. But it's okay. I pick up again at Week 7 of Jeff Galloway's conditioning program.

Daily blogging

Tuesday, July 03, 2012

I am setting a motivational goal of daily blogging over the next week. So here is day 1.

emoticon

I have also set a nutritional goal of planning a day in advance. For tomorrow, I have already gotten out some steaks and have been marinating them ready to bar-b-q. I want to be able to celebrate with my American friends tomorrow!

emoticon

And my fitness goal is a minimum of 30 minutes of cardio per day. This morning, I went out on my bike for an hour. It was a gorgeous morning, and I got in about 15 miles. Then, it was lower body strength training, with 30 squats, 30 lying adductions, and 30 lying abductions.

Those are good goals. I am hoping the foot is better by now. DH has to wear a brace but after two months he is pain free for a while. The next step is to fuse the bones and he is not going there just yet.
I use my tracker every day, I have a log in streak fro the beginning and a few other much shorter ones. at this time my focus is totally on having a great visit with the grands. That is the one thing that I will give up if we go some place with no wifi.
I am concerned about the nations crops. Many of our farmers have had a bumper year of hay but most places are struggling and losing crops. I hope your weather has been better and more like Maine, good growing weather thus far.

Storm last night

Wednesday, June 27, 2012

Snapped a few pictures last night of the clouds that advanced right before a major storm. Many places in Saskatchewan had tornados, so we were very lucky that we did not - just lots of thunder, lightening, wind, and rain.

Here are last night's photos:

I went for a run this morning, and saw downed and broken branches, one trampoline lifted and thrown into trees, lots of garbage cans and lids where they don't belong, and a beautiful blue sky. It was a beautiful run!

Bike Goal for summer achieved early!

Thursday, June 07, 2012

We live in a valley.

So there is no way out of town except to go uphill - in any direction. When I leave home, I toodle around the village for a mile, as a warm-up (all fairly flat), before leaving town and tackling that hill.

One of my goals for the summer, was to get my bicycle to get to the top of the hill within a ten minute time frame. I can do the first mile in under five minutes, but that is a fairly flat mile that I use for warm-up.

So what I'm really trying to accomplish, is to get up that hill in just over five minutes, for a total of ten minutes in the first two miles.

The hill is about a mile long, but not overly steep. Just seems to go up forever! Well, today, when my Garmin rang for the second mile and I looked down at it, the time said "9:47".

It took me a few seconds for that to sink in.

I had already reached my ten minute goal, and exceeded it!

May was a very good month for strength training. We did wall sits (ALOT), and I feel like my legs are much stronger than before the month started. Also, it has been WINDY every morning here, and I do think that helps build strength - I know it has helped build character!!!

This morning there was no wind. (insert Alleluia sound here)

I went on to finish 15 miles on my bike today, and when I got back close to town I felt I could have gone farther.
emoticon

We have talked in SparkLive! class a few times about allowing ourselves to feel proud of our accomplishments. It took me to mile number three before I remembered that, and started to allow myself to really own my ten minute / 2 mile goal. I am feeling proud of this, and how I have achieved something I set out to do.

As the ride went on, I realize that I was able to sustain four minute miles on my bike (averaged over the whole ride, including that hill). That is a new milestone for me, but wasn't actually one of my goals. So I'm also feeling pretty special about that.

What have you done recently, that should make you feel proud? Did you let yourself feel good about it? Allow those thoughts into your minds. So often, we beat ourselves up, when we really are doing the best we can. Give your inner self a smile right now, and pat yourself on the back. I'm sure you can think of a reason why!

I ran my last half in 2:20:53. I was shooting for 2:22 because the one before that was 2:24. I blasted my goal and, yes, I allowed myself to be proud. And then I signed myself up for another HM. emoticon
