Not my project, my project, soon to be my project?

Tuesday, May 11, 2010

Today, I was "invited" to a meeting in my boss' boss' boss' office. Of course I was there to explain why things were not perfect and to receive all of the action items. emoticon

The part that bugs me is that one of my action items was to develop a timeline for Project A. The only problem is that Project A, which I thought should have been mine from the outset, was given to someone else a few months ago. Now, I am being asked for that timeline. emoticon

So...I asked the "owner" of Project A for a timeline. And yes, I put his boss on the e-mail! Okay, so his boss and my boss are the same guy and I really don't expect to get a timeline from him. BUT, this is a subtle (or maybe not so subtle?) "told ya so!" to remind folks that this technically isn't my project! I expressed my displeasure of having this project taken away from me at the beginning. The reasons for assigning it to "him" were given and that was that. Good thing I've been "helping" all along, huh?

The best man for the job is a woman! emoticon emoticon

A really good Mother's Day

Sunday, May 09, 2010

Started the day by sleeping in. Any day that starts by sleeping in is a good day! DH made breakfast and I ate it! LOL! After breakfast and reading the Sunday paper, I headed out to the stores. Bought me some socks, DD a new makeup bag, DS a binder for his Pokemon cards and food for everyone! The best part was I got to go by myself! emoticon

When I got home, had lunch and then started cooking up a storm. Made sweet pototo fries, buffalo chicken and potato soup. As soon as I'm done with my pushups (two more sets!), I will start the steaks with mushrooms and onions. After dinner, I will be heading to the gym for my cardio. Then a shower and some plain old couch potato time before heading to bed.

Hope all you mothers out there had a great day as well! And, if you're not a mother, hope you called yours and also had a great day!

I had a great Muther's Day too. Glad you got to sleep in a bit, with your hectic schedule, you should have been still asleep, LOL.

Also enjoyed your chuckle about your DH fixing breakfast and you eating it! I planned on making my DW breakfast but she would rather have a p_ssing match so what fun was it to make breakfast for her? Hope she enjoyed what I planned on making, that she did not eat. I found a recipe for proscuitto-mozzarella fritatta, guess I'll have to have it one day this week WITHOUT HER! LOL

Have a wonderful week! You deserve it!!!!!

You did have a great day! Sometimes just being alone is wonderful. My daughter called me early from the west coast and my son took my husband and I out for lunch at one of my favorite restaurants. So I had a great day, too!

Cheat Day, and man did I do it justice!

Saturday, May 08, 2010

I decided that during this one-month challenge/goal/whatever that I set for myself, I would allow myself one cheat day a week. That one day would be the day that I could eat as much as I wanted of whatever I wanted. Today is the first cheat day. And did I ever cheat!

Breakfast was pizza and Sun Chips. Then I had a Fiber One bar with peanut butter on top. Then a bagel with more peanut butter. Then chips (Ruffles) and onion dip. Then DH took me out to dinner. Mexican. Chips and salsa, beans and rice plus my entrée. AND, on the way home, we got candy...Reese's Pieces for me! Oh, did I mention the margarita and the Hornsby's I drank too?

Did I also mention that I feel really sick right now? Too much food. Too much work. Not enough sleep. I will totally remember this feeling as I work through week two so I am not *too* tempted during the week. I also need to remember this feeling on my next cheat day so that I don't cheat quite so much. BTW, I enjoyed EVERY bite!

On a slightly different note, I did get my water in (12 cups so far and about to drink more) and I exercised! AND, I get to sleep in tomorrow! Before I go grocery shopping...by myself. Happy Mother's Day to me! emoticon

Boring day or running with my hair on fire day?

Saturday, May 08, 2010

On Fridays, I will always have one or the other. Either the afternoon is slow, boring, not much to do and just counting the minutes until it's 5:00 and I will be free. OR, there is one emergency after another. Hot projects that MUST get done before I leave, some major catastrophe that must either be diverted or cleaned up.

Guess what today was? Yep, fire day! emoticon emoticon emoticon (That's the closest to fire I could find.)

Nothing life-threatening, but lots of little things that needed to be done right now. I didn't get one of my updates out and I had about 10 "reminders" that I was supposed to complete before the end of the day today. Looks like Monday is going to start off BUSY!

And here it is, almost midnight and I haven't even started menus or a grocery list or anything. Tomorrow is going to be another long day!

I feel your pain. Except, as a banker, my hair is always on fire on Fridays! But doesn't that make the weekend just sthat much sweeter? Have a wonderful weekend!!

I think that is the nature of Fridays - mine are the same. It's either feast or famine on the work front. This week it was famine for me and I spent the last hour in work searching online for a Chinese takeaway that did dim sum.

I didn't have any luck. The internet isn't everything it's cracked up to be!

I hope you find time to relax some this weekend. Have a good one.

I was asked if I was a lawyer...

Friday, May 07, 2010

We had an emergency meeting for the board of directors for the baseball/softball league in my hometown. I am the secretary and thus take the notes. (I know, weird how that works, huh?) Anyway, we had to make some very serious decisions (serious for us, anyway!) and needed to be careful in our wording so that the intent was very clear. I got what our intent was and rather than having ten people trying to draft the motion, I wrote out what I thought we wanted to say (on the second motion. The first motion, we all wrote it and there are SO many crossouts and start overs. UGH!).

After I was done writing, I read the motion. There was one addition. No other changes. And that's when one of the other board members looked at me and asked "Are you a lawyer?" Nope, says I. Just an enginerd who does a LOT of documentation at work. emoticon

Third motion written in a similar fashion. Passed. Done!

But not home until 10:30! UGH...Again! It's really hard to be in bed at 10:30 (as I planned in my previous blog) when you're not even home until then! And, I'm a night person. I can't just come home and go to bed. I had to chillax for awhile first. So, now it's 11:11 and I need to go to bed. I really do plan to catch up with all of you tomorrow. Thanks for the support!

You may have been a lawyer in your past life. How cool did that make you feel to be asked THAT? One time someone asked me if I was a doctor. (But I think that was only because the old guy was high on morphine, does that count??)

Have a great weekend, chica.

Hehe. I've done a fair amount of standards and patent work, and also do a fair amount of customer-facing presentations where every word needs to be precise. I've had the "are you a lawyer" question too!

I have been asked the same thing before. I always try to choose just the right word to describe things, even in conversation. It is a habit that has served me well because it makes me stop and think before I speak. Thanks for sharing. Hugs from Janet in central Illinois.

When I was a hairdresser one of my customers took a funny turn under the drier. She'd been ill recently and this was her first excursion outdoors in months. She was staring into space and unresponsive, so we phoned an ambulance and when the paramedics turned up I described the events, saying she'd gone into what looked like a catatonic state under the drier. The paramedic asked if I was a nurse. I said, "No, I'm a hairdresser!" Because hairdressers are bimbos, of course, and couldn't possibly understand what catatonia is(!) They ended up having to shock her heart right there in the middle of the salon, poor luv. I never saw her again.

I'm glad you took the bull by the horns. Sometimes you just need one person to take charge and simplify things. Like the old adage goes, "Too many cooks spoil the broth!"
