I'm so tired of eating my own cooking

Thursday, April 01, 2010

And I'm saying this after DH took me out to dinner tonight. Hmmmm.... emoticon

Every work day, I pack both my breakfast and my lunch. I generally am not hungry right when I get up, but know that breakfast is important. Therefore, I pack a breakfast to eat at my desk. Most mornings, I have some sort of leftovers. Cereal (no, not even oatmeal!) doesn't stick with me and I get hungry really fast. I really like eggs and bacon but there are two problems with that breakfast. One, not the healthiest choice. Two, no one will make it for me! That's the big issue! LOL!

Lunch is also a leftover, but a different leftover than breakfast. I've had potato soup, beef enchiladas, lasagna and spaghetti so far this week. I packed the last of the spaghetti for lunch or breakfast tomorrow. When I was trying to figure out what to have for the other meal, I started looking through the freezer for my options. Enchiladas or lasagna - been there, done that...today! Chicken and rice dish - okay, but I don't feel like it. Frozen dinner - meh!

Short story long (yes, I know, I can make things long!) (Oh my, I just realized that that could be taken really wrong! emoticon emoticon ) Anyway...I am bored with all of the food I make. At least, right NOW I'm bored with every food choice I have. Ugh! So, do you think I could stay bored long enough that I won't eat more than my ranges allow? Yeah, didn't think so. emoticon

And I bet you are all dying to know what I decided to have for the other meal, huh?

Drum roll please... emoticon emoticon (pretend those two together are a drum)

I'm going to buy my lunch! Brilliant, yes? I've even decided to get a sandwich rather than a burger. Yay me! LOL!

I know exactly what you're saying, but thank you very much for this blog because it gave me something to be happy about and to be thankful for! First let me say, I'm sorry you're bored with your own cooking and if I could I'd cook you something up and run it over to you. But since I'm flat on my back and can't even cook for myself I don't think that's gonna happen soon. But here's what I'm thankful for...the ladies in my church and friends have been bringing dinner to Marshall and me two or three times a week and we have really good cooks in our church. And believe it or not even without exercising, I've lost weight. And Marshall's been real sick with a sinus infection and something else - they think it's his asthma so even if he knew how to cook he wouldn't be feeling like it. So thanks for showing me how fortunate I am...I can always count on you!

First of all, you're right. A peanut butter sandwich, made for me by the husband, tastes better than anything I have to cook for us, lol.
I also get into the same ruts...not that hubby minds, in fact it frustrates him a little that I don't want pasta and sauce 8 days a week, hahaha.
I do freeze a lot of leftovers for my lunches in single serving containers so that I can mix and match soups/casseroles throughout the week. a little variety at least.
But today is a dilema. Do I eat the soup I packed? Or the Mac and cheese (that I never get at home) that's being served in the cafeteria??? Hmmmm.
***update*** by the time my coworker got back from a meeting she had to go to, the cafeteria was closed, so it made that decision easier, lol.

We are indeed creatures of habit!
Try looking at the SP recipes, maybe you will find something that you might like to try. Sooner or later you'll find a couple that you want to keep in your recipe box and before long, you won't be bored with the "same ol', same ol' stuff.

Good luck

Have fun with your lunch OUT DECISIONS

Have a wonderful day!

I get really tired of food in general - regardless of who cooks it. I do eat as soon as I get up and exercise. B0b's Red Mill whole grain cereals are ptretty filling and can be cooked in the microwave. When my schedule gets crazy it's really hard to figure out food. Starting next weekend I will be gone from Saturday, 9 am until Sunday, 8:30pm. That means I have to plan and pack 5 meals!

I get pretty tired of eating my own cooking/recipes too. Which is when I go online and start hunting down new and different "stuff." (Which I also download and save if I just happen to trip over one when I'm not actually looking.)

If you're interested, I've found some good, fast, & healthy recipe's I'm willing to share. (Sounds like you don't have a lot of time for cooking.)

Good point Jeff...Local breakfast joint. They usually even have egg whites or egg substitute options for the healthier choice. (Uh, I don't think there's a "healthy" bacon option. Healthier maybe...but probably not "healthy.") Of course, there's a time commitment for this option.

Oatmeal and most cereals don't hold me over for long either. Kashi Go Lean Crunch does pretty well...but that's pretty much the only one I've found that tastes good and is filling.

Hope you come out of the "tired food" funk soon!

You wear me out with all of your blogs. Especially when you talk about how you make things long...... Oops!

Anyway, the bottom line is that you have done so well thus far that I know you will do so in the future. Sorry if I don't sound very sympathetic, but it's bed time.

P.S. I don't want you to stop blogging so often. I love your blogs. Just feeling lazy tonight.

Hungry, hungry hippo!

Wednesday, March 31, 2010

No, I'm not calling myself a hippo. BUT, do you remember that game? You'd slap the lever on the hippo's butt and their mouth would pop open. Then your hippo would "devour" whatever was in front of them. Even when it was just marbles! Ick!!

Well, I felt like one of those dang hippos today. Wanting to devour everything in front of me...and some things I would actually have to work for! LOL! For most of the day, I fed my inner hippo well. String cheese while getting ready for work (I told you I was hungry, hungry!). Lasagna and broccoli for breakfast. Fiber one bar for snack. Beef enchiladas, broccoli and carrots for lunch. Orange for a snack. Spaghetti (no, no broccoli) for dinner. One piece of bread with some butter and garlic salt. Then I finished off the potatoes and carrots from last night's dinner. Told myself to wait before I ate more. And I did wait.

And about an hour later, I ate 9 Lorna Doone shortbread cookies. (Yes, I counted them. And, yes, I tracked them.) Then, another hour later, I had a string cheese. Now, 45 minutes later I'm still hungry! Or am I hungry again? emoticon Either way, I don't like it! Maybe I just need to go to bed and override the hippo with the slug. At least the slug got some rest...I think.

I'm going to go to bed now (after I drink some tea) and see how tomorrow goes. Wish me luck!

I remember the "Hungry, Hungry, Hippo" game! Didn't know anyone else on Spark was that old. LOL

I have those days too. Luckily they are less and less. And they must be for you too or you would blog about them, right?

One day of being a Hungry Hippo does not make one a Hippo. Just makes you take notice, which is a good thing.

I have those days from time to time...no matter what I eat, I'm already looking for the next thing even before I'm finished eating it.
Mostly I just go to bed and pull the covers over my head, if possible...or find something to do that keeps me busy and not focused on food.

AND I THOUGHT I WAS THE ONLY ONE THAT ATE LIKE THAT.

Sometimes you're the windshield
sometimes you're the bug

Hope tomorrow is a better day

You might try to drink some more water when you get the urge to eat, that's what I've read around here.

Good luck and stay the course, you've done a super job!

I'm not allowed to yell at my kid....

Monday, March 29, 2010

during softball practice. At least, not as her coach. Cos I'm not her coach this year! LOL! And trust me, I'm okay with it! Her coach is the varsity softball coach for our local high school. He will be great for her and I am very glad that she is on his team.

I just miss getting to tell her to run faster, try harder, do more!! emoticon I still give her a little grief from the sidelines, but not as much as in the past. emoticon I don't think she misses it though. Odd, huh?

Oh! Problem solved! I'll just tell her all that stuff on the way to practice, on the way home from practice and in between all of the practices!!! Yay for me! Not so yay for her! It's gonna be a good week!

That must be hard. My DH was all 3 of my kids coach at one time or another. Baseball, Softball and Basketball. He could never keep his mouth shut, no matter what. I'm so glad that's over with. Now I have to worry that he will want to coach the grandkids. Please pray for me! LOL

Good day for a nap!

Sunday, March 28, 2010

Hello all! Got up around 9:00 today. Took the kids to breakfast at a place that has an all you can eat buffet. I ordered from the menu. Yay me! Came home and started reading....sorta. Actually cuddled under my blanket and fell asleep. It was nice!

Got up, ate breakfast, gathered kids for my kids to play with, and did my workout! After my workout, DH called and said that he and his folks were ready to meet us for dinner. emoticon They were ready a full hour before they normally are. Talk about hustling!

After dinner, I got a new holder for my silverware and picked up some more doggy diapers. Fun, huh? Or not... emoticon

That's it. My whole day. Hoping for bed soon.

See y'all on the flip side!

Mornings are better for everything, but I don't have enough time!

Sunday, March 28, 2010

Yesterday, in my status, I said that I was trying to decide if I should go grocery shopping in the morning or to the gym first.

Pros of grocery shopping first:
Fewer people at the store
Still time to work out later
Fewer people at the store

Cons of grocery shopping first:
Might not work out.

Pros of working out first:
Will get it done and out of the way.
More likely to eat better all day

Cons of working out first.
More people at the grocery store

Yep, that about sums it up!

Can you tell that I'm not a big fan of people? LOL! So...what did I do?

I got up at 8:00, started laundry and ate some breakfast. Did some more laundry, got dressed and Sparked some. I was trying to make myself do something...anything! Finally, at 10:00, I went upstairs and did my DVD. After that, I did some more laundry, gathered my library books and headed to the library and then the gym. And guess what? The gym was crowded!!
emoticon

Okay, it wasn't so crowded that I couldn't get a machine..my favorite machine even..but there were people there! And I don't share well! emoticon At least in my head I don't. My gym! You go away! Shoo! LOL!

After the gym, came home, made potato soup and cooked broccoli, showered and gathered my grocery list and coupons. Left the house shortly after 2:30. The Gluten Free store was great! Except they didn't have one of the items I wanted. They are ordering it for me, so all's good. PLUS, I didn't have to go to Wal-Mart this week! SCORE!!

Hit Bed, Bath and Beyond for a bunco hostess gift. Also found a great scrubber that I will ban my family from using! And, got a new silverware holder that is "this much" too big for my drawer. Exchanging that tomorrow, dang it!

Then, headed to the grocery store. I swear, people are annoyin'! LOL! There were a lot of people at the store, young to old, and for the most part were polite and aware. However...you know how when you go to the grocery store, you start seeing the same people in most every aisle? Most of the time, no big deal. But there is always that one person (or that one group or couple or whatever) that just doesn't get it. They are the people who steer the cart in the middle of the aisle and then leave it there when they go to look for something on a shelf. Or park the cart to the side and then stand right next to it, blocking the aisle, while they look for something. AND, if you say excuse me, they act like you just asked if you could kiss their goat! emoticon

One particularly annoying maze today...Fairly wide aisle. Cart to the left, cart to the right. just enough room for one cart to get through between them. I'm heading south and there is a chain of folks heading north. I wait for them all to clear out. Last one stops...yes STOPS!...in between the other two carts!!! Then, backs up and heads back the other direction! Of course, it wasn't quite that quick. They had to discuss their plans first. UGH!!! See why I think people are yucky! LOL!!

Luckily, I got away from that couple and was able to finish my shopping relatively roadblock free. And I spent less money than normal. emoticon emoticon Either I was a thrifty planner/shopper or I forgot a bunch of stuff. We'll know in a few days when I start to make dinner and don't have a thing to cook! LOL!

Grocery shopping at 3:00 in the morning is sounding better all the time. Even if it does mean I have to carry all of the groceries in by myself!

Yep, I stopped going to a certain grocery because I was so overstimulated by the mass of people and amazing rudeness. I don't have agoraphobia, but I guess I'm a 'shoppe' size shopper than a 'big box' one when I have a long list to purchase. When my children were young and DH was home, I'd often go to that certain grocery after midnight just to have space that I could maneuver easily, avoiding human contact. Downside: No bakery, deli, or meat counter employees, of course.
No mall for me at holiday or sale times unless the store I want to go to has an exterior entrance.

    Hello Sis,

We must be related cause I had issues yesterday at the home improvement store too. How many people were in a hurry to butt in front of me, or go that extra effort to get in front of me, to only get in front of me and SLOW DOWN? It was starting to drive me buggy! It happened several times, probably like 4 or 5. Guess I wasn't playing well with others yesterday! The one jerk that nearly run me over to get ahead of me to only slow down made a fatal error. He let ME get in front of him again and I REALLY SLOWED DOWN and made it to where he had to WAIT, LOL.

Amazing what makes a persons day!

Hope your weekend continues on the good track

OMG.... lady, you are singing my song. I could have written this... every last word! I HATE... DESPISE.... ABHOR.... (can you think of a stronger word) grocery shopping, for all the reasons you have said here.

Fortunately for me, I found an "out" (shhhhh, don't tell anyone emoticon) my BF is doing all the grocery shopping most of the time now because my weekends are full of studying. In return I do all of the laundry and most of the dog-related chores. Bless him! He doesn't like it much either, but he doesn't hate it the way I do. Thank heavens for willing BFs!

I like to ride my bike to the store for small things. Fridays or Saturdays are the big shopping days though. But if I ride my bike there....I kill two birds w one stone! So I look for any excuse to go somewhere and I haul a backpack.
