Old pants are new again!

Monday, February 02, 2009

I'm one of those people who pick out their clothes for the next day before going to bed at night. That way, I don't actually have to wake up to get to work. emoticon

Tonight I was looking for a pair of pants to wear that would go with this grey/gray sweater that I really like. I'm bored with my clothes and want to buy a whole new wardrobe. Since I'm broke and haven't been nominated for What Not To Wear, I need to make do with what I have.

I decided to check the back of my closet to see if there was anything that I forgot about. First six pairs of pants were all capris. Still a little chilly for those. Last pair was a pair of size 8 jeans that were there because I couldn't breathe and zip the pants at the same time. (I chose breathing!) What the heck, thought I, and tried them on. Lo and behold, I could zip them and breathe and move!!! Woo Hoo!! I am sooooo wearing them to work tomorrow. Happy happy joy joy!! emoticon emoticon (That's my happy dance and then the looks I get from the folks watching my happy dance. hee hee)

Today was better

Sunday, February 01, 2009

I went to the gym today, again partly because it's what I do. DH isn't feeling well, so didn't come with me. So, I took advantage of being on my own by lifting upper body. It's been awhile, so lifting the same weights was harder than it used to be. But it did feel good!

Another benefit of lifting before cardio is that by the time I was done lifting, all of the people on MY (hee hee) machines were done and I had my pick! I did forty minutes and bumped the resistance up to 10 during the commercials. Good variation that helps me not be so bored. And the sun is shining! Maybe the warmth will follow soon.

Thanks for the words of encouragement. MDTWEETY, my gym doesn't have group classes and I'm okay with that. The only group class I've ever really liked was kick boxing. We actually got to make contact (with bags!) and it was a GREAT stress buster. Then the instructor got fired (for always being late) and the new instructor wasn't as good. It became more of a "flick" boxing class. No contact, no form, no fun. emoticon Next best is working out with a friend. We push each other!

Thanks SHARE1951, for understanding. We'll make it to the warm weather, I know we will!!

Bored, but still going

Saturday, January 31, 2009

Went to the gym today, because that's what I do on Saturday mornings. When I got there, I didn't want to do anything! I didn't feel like lifting, didn't want to do cardio, nothing!! I got on the elliptical and punched in 40 minutes before I could talk myself out of it. I was really glad I did the forty when I was done, but I think it's time for some change. The main thing I want is for it to get warm so I can go outside to exercise. There is still snow intermittenly on the sidewalks and I'm a sissy when it comes to cold. So, I'm making the choice to not go outside at this time. Hopefully this is just a one-day phase and I'll feel better tomorrow.

Later taters!

Ugh...this has been my problem for weeks! I've been blogging about exercise drudgery. I've been bored on the Arctrainer and treadmill. The ultimate snoozefest, though, is my Walk Away the Pounds DVD.
The only cure for me is exercise classes!! :)
I hope you're able to get outside soon and find something that you enjoy in the meantime. Fitness has to be fun, right?
P.S. Good for you for sticking with it!

Cheat day all the way!

Friday, January 30, 2009

Today was my last day of "forced" time off from my job. I have been looking forward to it all week because it is a day for me. I slept in, spent some time on the Spark People site and then headed to the gym. Afterwards, I got my grocery list together (wanted to shop today to avoid the crowds tomorrow!) and headed out. Went out to lunch and ate enough calories in one sitting to last me the whole day! However, I made sure that I tasted every bite. Too many times I will splurge and then not remember what anything tasted like.

After my very satisfying lunch, I went grocery shopping. Picked up my Super Bowl munchies (healthier choices than last year!) and toodled home. Dinner was Papa Murphy's Delite Chicken Artichoke Pizza. Then I had a soft baked oatmeal cookie for dessert. I really feel like I got all of my cravings done and satisfied and I can go back to eating healthy tomorrow. Plus, I have that "I don't feel so good" feeling that you get when you eat too much and too much junk.

I should be good at handling the cravings for awhile. I don't usually have a whole day of poor eating, but once in awhile it's just gotta be done! Another one of those laws. emoticon

LDL number out of whack!

Thursday, January 29, 2009

As part of my ongoing attempt to maintain a healthy lifestyle, I had my blood work done. The numbers all came back as "within range" except my LDL. I was floored! It's not really high, but it is higher than is considered healthy. I didn't think it could happen to me!

Why? Because I'm 3 pounds from goal (a healthy weight for me), I exercise at least five days a week, I eat lots of veggies (not so much on the fruits), don't smoke, drink rarely, etc. You'd think my numbers would all be well within the normal range!! Or, at least, I did! So, now I'll be researching what my options are to lower that number. The doctor has not suggested meds. I've researched enough to know that I want to avoid those if at all possible. I'll see what I can do to improve my cholesterol levels through diet and exercise. No meds for me!! emoticon emoticon emoticon

I agree with you about the meds. I think we're too overmedicated as a society and that doctors are too quick to prescribe meds for anything and everything. It may be a quick fix, but what about the side effects??

Cograts on being 3 pounds away from goal!! It sounds like you are doing everything right to get that number down.
